If Air Traffic Controller is such a stressful job, then why do Air Traffic Controllers have such an easy time sleeping... AT WORK!!!

Dangerous does not equal stressful. One of the most stressful jobs I have ever had was fast food. Try getting screamed at by every other person for not giving them enough catsup. Also, lawyer is not on the list? Meh.

It`s easy to compile a list without any research or meaningful scale of measurement. Someone doesn`t understand the nature of stress.

The most satisfying jobs are those which are goals, with a beginning, a process, and an end, with a sense of completion. A repetitive job with no completion or product adds to stress.

Risk of pain or death doesn`t necessarily create stress. Take the African Bee Removal Specialist as an example. It`s actually a pretty good job. The work is satisfying. There`s no micromanaging boss. There is no time pressure. The bees are predictable and the specialist is in complete control of the process.

Contrast that to the Air Traffic Controller. He deals with people who are sometimes willful or stubborn. He has no direct control over the process. He has to maintain constant watch for unexpected events. He has no completion; his work is a process without a product or ever a sense of any goal reached.

I don`t care if they might be sent to the minors, all they do is play baseball. It requires little intellect and if you get payed less in the minors and are away from your family then get a real job.

It`s funny how they included air traffic control operators but didn`t include pilots. At the very least they could have included jet pilots, especially those in the navy and marine corps. Although I`ve never had the opportunity, landing a jet on an aircraft carrier late at night, especially with other aircraft already on deck, can be extremely stressful. I won`t continue, but I think you get the point.

Hazmat diver was probably the worst job to have on the list.

I have to disagree with this list. I really think any form of Customer service(Resturaunt customers are the worst) or child care would out stress someone out more than "bee keeper." Getting yelled at constantly by either adult or child can take its toll and make anyone snap.

I have to agree with GParadox, Child Care must be very stressful. The stress of being responsible for a couple of children would only be multiplied when a couple of children becomes a couple dozen children.

And RobSwindol... Don`t be a moron. Try working an 8 hour shift with two planes in the sky at 4am. It gets... well... boring... to say the least. But that`s not what we`re talking about. Try the 5pm shift when there are 142 pilots in the sky, most of them are weekend warriors with no idea what`s going on, everyone wanting something different all at once, many with HUNDREDS on board, and try to keep everyone alive. Then mess up, even once, and live with the guilt of that. And then come up to me and talk to me about stress.

As the article pointed out, being a freelancer means you are probably good at what you do, but have no idea on how to do all of the other things that government regulations require.

The first time you open a piece of mail and see a $10K fine for not filling out a form that indicates you aren`t required to fill out that form you really learn what stress is (I wound up not having to pay that fine, btw). And that`s just the tip of the iceberg...

i`ve been on the ice road before...it`s SO scary. I wasn`t even in a semi..just a pick up truck. As well, my airline does charter flights to an ice strip in the Northwest Territories...so driving a semi on the ice road is childs play compared to landing a 737-200 on a frozen lake.
