    1. That was really gross. Watching those old women jiggle about makes me want to puke. If they wanted to catch someone`s attention they would have used younger, more attractive women. I turned it off half way cause i couldn`t watch anymore.
    2. What did that have to do with women`s equality? So they played with a bunch of power tools, so what?
    3. What`s with all the women`s rights posts lately?
    4. If women really want to be equal then they would have to surrender certain perks. Men would feel less obligated to help a woman by holding a door, paying a bill, etc, if she is making more .

doesnt say they do the same job, does it.

if any of these women had good jobs the would not need to work into their 60s/70s. this has nothing to do with "The Man" keeping them down, they probably just didnt get the education they should have, and was available too them even in their time.

on a side note, i love the original video. we play it at work all the time, and every man in the club just stops and stares at the screens for a few minutes.

    Sexism?

Yes, women ON AVERAGE make less than men.

BUT, if you statistically compare men and women in the SAME JOB, they tend to make the same amount. I`ve never worked a job where a woman working the same job made less.

They DID, on the other hand, expect special treatment: taking time off to have kids, forcing me to work more overtime because she `had kids` and I didin`t, allowed to come in late every morning because `had to get the kids off` (and who was expected to work over to cover???), were not expected to do any heavy lifting that males were.

Yes, in certain areas it`s true. I`ve never worked in a place where anyone made more than me other than management, and most of the time I was overlooked for females for those positions, and I`ve usually had to do double the work they do, so stfu already.

"Equal opportunity only exists when everyone sees themselves as equals and acts like it."

Exactly. It`s why *some* women`s rights` activists bug me sometime.(And I`ll explain some)

I understand that in many ares of the world, women are still being forced into marriage, into bearing kids, being beaten and raped and undereducated or not even educated at all.

That poo needs to stop. It`s not like they can "fight" their way out: their physical stature and many legalities prevent it.

But I`ve never been underpaid compared to a man. I`ve, personally, never had any opportunities denied to me.

And I still see a million American women with this grand opportunity that millions other women are denied, squander it.

They go through school with mediocre grades thinking they can be a nurse instead of a doctor and marry "some rich guy."

They wanna pop out kids at 16 and have a family too soon.

    They ar

    Cont.

They aren`t afraid to show tit to get their way.

See, men cannot do that. You can`t just flash your skin and say, "hey ma`am, I`ll sleep with you to get that position."

It doesn`t work like that. When women *with* rights(because yes, sadly, many women in other countries are denied these rights) are able to USE those rights to gain their own success, and stop treating THEIR OWN BODIES like a tool of the trade, I`ll be able to genuinely say we`re gaining equality.

What many women want is to be able to flirt their way to the top without any actual hard work.

And it makes real feminists look like complete asshats.

    blah blah blah

so tired of hearing women complain.
there are many factors for why women don`t have the same
success in business as men do. One of the key factors is
that they don`t pursue success as agressively as men do.
I am not saying their choices are not valid, but you can`t
have it all. Men make choices and live with the consequences,
women make choices then bitch about it and make men pay
for their choices by incesantly droning on and on and on
about how unjustly they are treated.

Guess what. Life is not fair.
Men gain success by sacrificing time with their spouses and
children. We pay for it with estranged marriages and kids who
are distant, but we know we have made their lives easier
with our success and pay the price like the self-sacrificing
martyrs we are. Quietly taking on the burdens you dump on us.

    Gee us guys are swell!

DFWBrysco-"According to the last US Census, women make 75.5 cents for every dollar that a man makes."

That`s only if you compare overall salary to overall salary. A higher percentage of women work part-time or temporary jobs, which historically pay less. They do this as a full time job would take away from their kids. When you actually compare the wage of a man doing a particular job (say, `Human Resource Officer) with the wage of woman doing the identical job, that descrepency dissappears.

It`s easy to state that `women make 75.5 cents for every dollar a man makes`, but it makes just as much sense to say `McDonald`s cooks make 2.5 cents for every dollar an Executive Chef makes`.

Now, if you have evidence of a woman getting paid less than a man for a PARTICULAR JOB in the same company, trot it out.

If you actually look at it on an individual basis women get paid the same doing the same job for the same amount of work that men do. There are other factors at work which drive men`s average earnings up relative to that of women, but this is not the result of discrimination. I find it pretty funny that somehow this debate ends up on sites like this, and most of the people arguing about it are men. From what I see, a lot of women nowdays think we have reached a state of equality (considering we`re all pretty equally unemployed) and that we should stop fighting about equality.
Seems to me, the only people pushing the issues of race and gender equality are the politicians seeking to divide us on every issue they can think of.

Woo, tell you what guys- you want us to stop whining about lack of equality? Well stop making retarded comments about tits and fat and age. Yes, women in some ( but not all) countries have equal opportunities, but men still see child care as a womans problem, they still expect women to look a certain way, act a certain way. When we choose not to there is an outcry.

dont get me wrong im behind equality. like entirely behind it and if possible i think it should be implemented but sometimes theres just some things that men can do differently. keep in mind this is a smaller and more specific example but in australia tradies earn big money due to a shortage. now women are paid less. not much. but less. the only reason this is is because for the few women who commit to jobs such as these the work doesnt get done as quickly. this is not me being sexist. its a fact that women have less strength then men. so a man can lift a 75 kilo platform and walk with it further. cleaning heavy waste left on a site requires alot of strength. just because a woman is working at 100% but only does 75% of the work on a job like that as a man would working at 100% percent does not mean that she should be paid the same. again this is being realistic. this is the same if turned around. there are jobs that are better suited for women and therefor better pay for it

"females get paid more to be models. and they can get the jobs easier. what about that>?" Only that small percentage that are hot enough and talented enough and lucky enough to get the position. The point of this is that normal women don`t get paid the same amount for the same job as men do. And this applies even if you`re looking at jobs that have no gender bias to them. A woman and a man can both make equally good doctors, lawyers, computer technicians, and so on. But men get paid more in these positions than women do.

    @Gerry,

I`ve seen so many men make that argument and it misses the point entirely. In fact, I think it backs up the case for feminism. One of the few areas in which women consistently make more money than men is one in which they are valued solely for their looks and their sexuality. Not only that, but the highest paid ones often have artificial and/or surgical enhancements to fit society`s idea of physical beauty. Is that all we`re good for?

And I can`t just go out and become a model or a porn star. I don`t look like one, and neither do most women. And even if I did, why would I want to when I have a perfectly good brain I could be using?

@Zombunny I wouldn`t tell you to go out and do porn. Yeah women can make more there, but that`s their choice. Sorry, it is. People like money and do what they have to do to get it. Me personally I`d rather be broke and happy than rich and pathetic. I guess I`m just lucky that I work in a sector that doesn`t care about male/female, just the fact that you`re a warm body.

@ForSquirel, I think you misunderstood my argument. I`m not against porn or the women who choose to do it. I like porn. I think it can be a very good thing, and if the women doing it are happy, that`s great. My point was that porn, modeling and prostitution should not be the only fields in which women can make as much as or more than their male counterparts. I think all careers should be a level playing field, and people should be valued for their character and work ethic, not their gender.

    • when its socially acceptable for a man to expect a woman to pay for things
    • it will be socially acceptable for woman to expect to earn the same wages

@Zombunny I can respect that, and I agree that all things should be `level` but also realize that equal pay for an equal job means equal pay for doing the same thing.
    (another random thought)
I work in EMS with a lot of females. And while the pay is equal to start and raises based on merit and performance, I would expect that a woman would be expected to do the same job. They(women) a lot of times expect me to do the lifting, carrying the equipment, climbing inside of vehicles ect because I`m the guy. Mind you, I`m not a big/muscular guy. You can`t expect people to say things are unfair when I have to deal with this. Should someone be payed(paid)? the same when I`m doing more work even though we have the same education/work experience? These are a lot of the things people fail to examine, and just jump directly into, `I`m not making the same because I`m a girl.`

Some of you may benefit from reading up on something called Third Wave Feminism. It seems to me that most people seem to be hanging onto an old idea of the feminist movement that doesn`t really apply to modern feminism. There is a new version of the movement mostly lead by young women who have shifted their ideas with the shift in our society.

Many women only want the part of equality that benefits them. They don`t want to be equal in everything, they only apply the term equality to a situation to create a discrepancy. For example, women want combat roles in the military, citing equality, but then expect to be able to have a lower physical standard for the same job.

Also, the "wage gap" has been shown to have nothing to do with sexism, and everything to do with the different lifestyles and society roles chosen by women. Such as women needing/taking more unpaid maternity days, jobs/positions/hours that are flexible to raise kids, at the expense of earnings, more benefits over a higher hourly wage, etc...

In hourly wages, no. In overall earnings, yes. You had to work less, so you get paid less.

In my job (U.S. Army) the women are generally substandard. This is not all of them, but a general trend. Usually they perform less in most areas like physical fitness, job proficiency, marksmanship (All of which are important to our job.) Also, when it comes to anything physical, the women act like is the man`s responsibility to move things, and generally stand off to the side when there is work being done. Women are required to have the same gear, but often need greater assistance moving their individual equipment. Is it fair I`m paid the same a

You mean the act signed by Obama that was conveniently name for a lady who made a political ad for Obama about one instance that happened over a decade ago? He pay initially was on par with her male counterparts. Maybe she just wasn`t a very good manager and didn`t warrent any merit raises, but they were unable to get rid of her because she was a protected minority. If you read up you`ll find that during her years at the factory as a salaried worker, raises were given and denied based on evaluations and recommendations regarding worker performance. Maybe she just sucked at her job.

And the Lilly Ledbetter act has nothing to do with pay, but all to do with the statute of limitations.

If you took time off without pay, you WERE paid less than if you had not. Your overall earnings for the year were less than they otherwise would have been. Seeing as women tend to do this much more often than men, it effects the annual wages of women as a whole much more than men. Thus part of the descrepency.

That being said, it was very comendable of you. Many men are not able to do that.

It`s not a question of women EARNING less, just MAKING less. Usually, a man and a women in the SAME job with the SAME company EARN the same. But, as a whole, women will take more time off than a man. That results in men in the same job MAKING more.

You gave me an example of a Statute of Limitation issue. Please research `Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.` You will find that Initially Ledbetter’s salary was in line with the salaries of men performing substantially similar work. It lagged behind when she didn`t receive pay raises, which were based on evaluations, recommendations and performance. These are the FACTS. The Equal Pay Act allows pay differendces that are based on merit. Goodyear stated that their evaluations are based only on worker competence, and she didn`t warrent the same pay raises as others. (i.e. her work sucked)

Women = EOE protected minority. Many businesses are scared of discrimination lawsuits. In some instances a lawsuit is valid, in others it is a club used to insure the employment of a lousy worker.

mrjude-"he doesn`t have to accept that this actually happens."

I didn`t say it doesn`t happen. But not to the point where it contributes significantly to the `women only make 72 cent for every dollar a man makes` statistic. A higher percent of women tend to work part-time, which pays less. A higher percent of women leave the labor force for child birth, care and elder care.

This is an interesting report on the subject that finds the so called `wage gap` is almost entirely behavior-based.

There is a glass ceiling for wages for women. It is well known and documented that even in developed countries the disparity between male and female wage rates is still grossly inequitable. Can you tell me how I as a nurse, make less than a sanitation worker? If you think it`s due to physical labour, risk, or undesirable smells, you clearly have no idea what either job entails. The truth is nursing is still a job held mostly by women and therefore relegated to pink ghetto wages. Disputing that women are paid unfairly as a national average is the epitomy of ignorance.

Why are you comparing two different jobs? Do the MALE nurses where you work make more than you for doing the same job? If so, you have a point. If not, then you don`t.

I`m not going to bother attacking the credibility of these statistics. However, even in the modern world, women actually tend to prefer jobs that are maternal in nature and are also lower paying. For instance, you see more women as teachers than men. (We all know that teachers don`t make poo)

That`s the mainstream feminist position - same pay for fewer hours work in an easier job.

They usually lie about it, but that is what is being demanded. There`s already the same pay for the same work, has been for a long time. Only the most gullible or deluded believe that the *average* pay for women is about a third less than the *average* pay for men *for the same amount of the same work in modern countries*. That would require almost everyone in those countries to be involved in a conspiracy to conceal it. Insanely ludicrous. Then there`s the common sexism that women do more work than men because they`re effortlessly superior to men. If a person believes that, it would follow for them that women should be paid at a higher rate than men.

I`ll give one example of many thousands from the UK.

Rubbish collection has traditionally been fairly well paid for unsalaried work because it requires working very early in the mornings in all weather in the road handling frequently unpleasant and sometimes hazardous waste, i.e. it`s a nasty job with a degree of risk. You are going to be working outdoors in the rain and cold and snow on icy roads at dawn.

So that job had a higher rate of pay than cleaning council offices, for those reasons.

This was ruled sexism against women. Note that both jobs were open to people regardless of sex and paid the same regardless of sex.

As a result, women *and only women* who had worked for the council as office cleaners got large amounts of extra money.

o women have been getting paid more than men for exactly the same work (office cleaning). That was a side benefit for feminists, although an important milestone by itself. The main benefit was that every woman counted as a seperate case, vastly adding to the number of cases of "sexism" against women in pay and thus giving feminists bigger numbers to lie with as a tool to increase sexism against men. Perfect result! In fact, many women counted as several cases because they got paid repeatedly for not having other jobs. The same council gave more overtime to gardeners than office cleaners, which was also ruled sexism against the women, who got paid for the overtime they didn`t work.

This has occured all over the UK. It`s not an isolated incident. It is not extremism - it`s mainstream feminism.

Oh, and the fewer hours thing. Check the stats for *full time* workers and you`ll find that the average working week for men is about 10% longer than the average working week for women. That`s for *full time* workers.

People who work more hours tend to get paid more than people who work less hours. Obviously so in a hourly paid job, but indirectly in a salaried job through a better chance of promotion.
