Not a hardcore racist, but just enough of one to raise an eyebrow.

@ Fehz- if you are close enough to see his eyes then its too late... and to others so what if she pointed out hes black- its a description. Tee president is black - er um or half - half white?
Black Irish- its all so confusing. Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect harmony....

She specified because Steve is apparently a black guy and allowed to walk around the house carrying a machete, but if he sees, for instance, a random Asian man with a machete then there may be cause for concern. A white guy, on the other hand, with a machete is never ok and should always elicit fear.

Why did she feel the need to time stamp the note?

A black man is just a man. Maybe I`m wrong though.. Maybe we should start being racist against people with brown eyes, too. I can be "some brown eyed guy with a machete".

Knowing that Steve is black comes in handy if there`s some random guy in the yard without a machete.

That wasn`t racist at all, If I seen anyone with a machete I would be scared and if I happen to live in an area where there isn`t a lot of black people it would worry me even more, or even it was a white scrubby looking guy that didn`t belong it would scare me too

i had a note like this the other day aswel, being slightly racist saved my life. my mom told me not to worry if i saw a chinese person in the house with a machete, and wouldnt you know it, some japanese guy sneaked into my house! if mom hadent been so specific i would have thought the guy was ok and he could have killed me! but now i got him instead.

... unless my mom doesnt know the difference between chinese and japanese people.... oh...no.........

Describing a person is racist now?

freddyferret, black man with a machete is more specific than just a man with a machete. What if there`s a white man with a machete and she had just said "man with a machete"? The kid would think the person was totally fine before they got themselves killed!!

Considering every slasher movie has had a white guy with a machete, "black guy with a machete" would be less unnerving than just "guy with a machete".
What`s racist about that?
Why did she have to say black? Why not just a man with a machete? What are the odds that there would be anyone else around with a machete? It just seems a little unnecessary. She wouldn`t have to say black, tall, or anything else. Just a man with a machete. Enough said.

Of course if a man with a machete came in my house I`d shoot him and destroy the note. Oops! (just kidding, don`t have a seizure)

I think a man of any color, any creed, and any discipline, would be scared s***less of a black man with a machete--absent mom`s timely warning.

I`d be glad to get that warning. If you take out the word "black" it`s suddenly just fine. They`re just describing him, it`s like saying "if you see a short guy with a machete..."

I`m going to guess that Steve probably works for the family regularly and the machete thing is a good-natured joke they`re all involved with... including Steve.

Why try to make more of it than that?
