@Trypno
irrational number

@Suicism
I`ve been trying to find it all day, but not much luck. I originally found it through an ancient YTMND post and it was a youtube video. This was back around 2006 however.

Volsunga - you happen to have the link to that or at least a clue as to where it might be? I also just tried to interpret the melody in chromatic, as opposed to diatonic intervals - didn`t workout too well.

@Blatto
Music and Mathematics go hand in hand, so how is it irrational?

"hipsterness confirmed"

Well known fact: when hipsters gain musical skill, they cease to be hipsters.

"we should play that to the aliens when they land. then they will appreciate our basic knowledge of maths..."

That`s exactly what I was thinking!!

His theory on converting digits of Pi to notes in a scale doesn`t seem rational.

A few years ago, I saw something similar, except the guy actually understood the relationship between maths and music. He converted the digits of pi to octal and interpreted the white noise in the numbers to signal shifts in octave. The end result sounded remarkably like something Mozart would write instead this which sounds like an elementary student learning to play a recorder.

@terracottus: then the heart of the problem is, why is being "nerd" so condemnable?

sooo thought it was going to be lame...nice surprise:)just a thought, but pie represents a single value, not a series of values so its true representation would have been better found by finding the actual frequency of said value(would never have been as cool as this)

Why are the notes of C major used? Why not a minor? or a chromatic or a atonal?

still nice sound

I`ve heard of strength in numbers, but beauty in numbers is an entirely different concept. Amazing. :`) This just made a sunny day even sunnier!
