Weirdest Answer To A Math Test Ever [Pic]

Usually, these types of answers are funny--this one is just strange. I think it"s a serial murderer in the making.

My, my, such easy questions, I`d hate to be the one who teaches him algebra. Some poor teacher out there is going down next year.

And I say that as a former(?) douchebag that went to an IB school. Though Odd Future didn`t exist then.

This is an IB school test, from the lowest level Mathematics class in the final year (aka grade 12). Look at this image again with the knowledge that this douchebag`s parents are probably paying thousands of dollars for him to be a douchebag.

I`m just concerned that the "Maths" teacher has given a mark of 0/4 on a question that is worth 6...

90% each bounce, this means that as small as the bounce height gets, it will never be 0, ie the ball will never make flat contact with the material due to loss of energy. This basically means you have an endless supply of energy keeping this ball above the surface.

@Lionhart
I dont understand how it doesnt make sense, seems to make perfect sense to me, "each subsequent bounce is 90% of the previous bounce" i guess may be a bit ambiguous out of context but when your doing a maths exam with a section on geometric series and sequences it seems pretty obvious what they mean.

If you want to be extremely literal and work with very basic implication, then it makes perfect sense.

Subsequent is defined as "following in time or order"

And since the first event happened (ball is dropped etc. etc.) it is reasonably to assume that subsequent bounces are occurring after the first bounce.

So taken that way, an event occurs, all subsequent (following in time or order) events have a rule applied to them (90% of previous height starting with the first bounce after the implied first event)

OR the people who create problems for IB classes, whose job it is to not make these sort of mistakes, made a mistake.

@cheezcake

Congratulations on totally missing the point. The problem is not with the math, its with the definition of English words used to state the problem.

@ Lionhart

T(n) = ar^(n-1) [nTH term of a geometric sequence]
T(8) = 2 x [0.9]^7 = ~0.96m

Between the first and 6th time it hits the ground means 5 total vertical displacements we must account for

S(n) = [a(1-r^n)]/(1-r)[Sum of a geometric series]
S(5) = [2(1-0.9^5)]/0.1
but it travels up and down so x2
= ~16.4m

Well, technically, the problem is unsolvable, so if I were that student I would lodge a formal protest that posing impossible-to-answer questions is a deliberate attempt to affect my grades, and therefore my entire future, and sue for millions.

Why is it unsolvable? The wording specifies that each bounce is 90% of the previous bounce, for each particular bounce, or, in math terms, for the first bounce:

height (bounce 2) = height (bounce 0) x 0.9

But there wasn`t, and can`t ever be, a (bounce 0).

For each bounce, say n, the `subsequent` bounce is n+1 and the `previous` bounce is n-1, not n.

If he was going to amount to something, he`d have solved the problem AND drawn something.

If he can`t do simple math, he`s just a weird ass idiot.

"Meh.. keep in mind you guys who think this is a wierd kid, well these are the kids that amaount to something"

No. It is the kids that can do the math properly and go on to learn more and more and more that amount to something.

Sure the Banskys and Piccossos of the world may have been eccentric, but the Einsteins and Newtons of the world were excellent. Eccentricity produces interesting figures. Excellence keeps humanity going forward.

Additionally, I don`t know how old this kid is but the problem on the quiz is simple.

Or he may eat his mothers liver - but hey, being eccentric as all the way baby ;-)

everyone hating on this is retarded. It`s hilarious when someone who can`t figure out a simple physics problem draws elephants and what not, but when a hip hop fan can`t figure out a simple math equation and draws something hip hop related hes a sicko, and it`s considered so obvious that he doesn`t do well in school because he listens to "so much hip hop". That damn hip hop, that damn rock and roll, those damn video games, these damn computers. suck a chubby.
