There is so much wrong with this video. You can`t oxygenate blood by just bubbling oxygen through it, the lungs have a very intricate structure where surface area is maximized for most of red blood cells to exchange CO2 for O2. Even if that can acted as a lung, the brain, muscles, etc. also need blood glucose (from food) with oxygen to function.

It looks like they gave a poor dog a drug to make it drowsy and stuck his head through a hole on the table and prodded it.

now I`m wondering if Robot Chicken made a parody of this, or if this was a hoax that came out after Robot Chicken`s Walt Disney sketch

So in the future nobody dies, and our heads will fit into giant killer robots!

or, we will be in a lab with scientists rubbing acid in our mouth and smashing a hammer in front of us while poking our eyes with a stick...

Here`s a thought that seems to have been missed, consider that the final is real to the age (I`m guessing somewhere around the middle of the 20th Century). However in a move of propaganda (or to get more funding) the actual results were faked. The experiment failed (which is plausible), so they tied down a dog to a table and poked and prodded as in this film.

I`m not convinced by the actual possibilty of this experiment succeeding so I do consider the results as faked but when they were faked? I don`t know the answer to that.

That was hard to watch, as it should be. But I`m glad I watched it... I think it`s important to know what kinds of sacrifices were made for scientific advancements that we benefit from.

I just wanted to point out that this in not fake. It`s a well documented series of experiments.

Fake. Dog`s entire head moves up and down. Impossible with severed neck muscles.

Ranarc: No computer program can possibly reveal all the complications that may occur. Also, most of the animals used in testing would`ve been euthanized had they remained at a shelter.

I`m all for treating animals with respect, and sure some testing being done is not necessary, but most animal testing is beneficial and needed to be approved for new procedures, treatments, and drugs. When those experiments are not thorough, due to lack of testing, Then people end up suffering and dying, that`s a far greater loss.

@ CrakrJak
I`m currently in college studying Biological Science, they are currently able to stop testing on animals, Computer programs are able to approximate how it would effect human DNA/Skin (as this is what animals are used for), also they can grow human tissue in a test tubes and are also able to test there.

There is a fine line between welfare and cruelty which these animals endure whilst being tested on - where I do not disagree with animal tests due to what we have today - but Guinea pigs are killed by aspirin if we had tested it on them we wouldn`t have it today. DNA between humans and animals is far too different, we are a different species. We can`t forget these are living beings as well, they feel pain just like us. We should give them the respect they deserve because in the end they don`t have a choice in this death sentence we give them - as they are often die because of the tests or just being `surplus` stock (been tested on and are finished with).

I had bad luck to meet two lab workers (two girls- just make it more creepy)in the underground passage under one of mayor drug producers in Europe. They were pushing a cart with two dead dogs on it. Dogs had tubes and wires sticking out of any possible hole on their poor deformated body. They were two Beagles. They are hounting my dreams. Girls noticed the look on my face and laughed. "Dont worry, its not contagious."
They thought that I was worried! I was shocked by this surreal and cruel scen. This severd dog head video is nothing what people do to animals in labs around the world.

Matholameu:
HAVE A F***ING HEART
It`s because doctors and researchers have a heart and sincerely value human life that research on animals is done. We can not experiment on humans like this.

If these doctors and researchers didn`t have a heart they wouldn`t care enough to do the experiments needed, They would just let nature take it`s course and call it `natural selection` or reducing the surplus population.

I love dogs, cats, bunnies, etc., but they are still animals not human beings. Human welfare > animal welfare.

It was cruel. And it was helpful.

Using data collected by the natzies concentration camps was last I hear not permitted for legitimate research. Maybe we would get some breakthroughs or would have sooner if the data was used.
But those were humans, and for that we have to be illogical and emotional about it.
Dogs humans, its all life. If you do something to other life be prepared to have it done to you. Still I`m not a vegetarian, as I know animals wouldn`t think twice about eating me if they could. Still I`d feel more comfortable eating other predators than cows. I would like it if we treated artificial life with respect if we ever make anything sentient.

Without the invention and testing of those pumps, modern heart surgery and transplantation would not be possible.

Yes, medical universities have experimented on dogs and various other animals for the betterment of mankind. If that sounds awful to you, well maybe it is, but those sacrifices have allowed thousands of people to live and that`s a very good thing.

I saw this YEARS ago.

Also, I`m pretty sure this is fake. Like Bumble says, it is part of a longer video and ten minutes means a lot of dead brain cells.

Okie Dokie folks. Let`s think about this logically... The head is way too animated to be severed. A severed head would not have the ability to move that much simply due to the fact that it is no longer anchored to a frame.

Secondly, this is excerpt from a longer video in which the scientists state that the dog was brought to clinical death and remained in that state for 10 minutes prior to initiating the adjector. This means that the brain was without oxygen for 10 minutes. A human being sustains significant brain damage beginning at 5 minutes. The likelihood that this dog would exhibit normal responses, even if you rule out the effects of shock and trauma, is so remote that I have to believe this fake.

Surely they hypothesized it. Surely they tried it. Surely it didn`t work.

MrFribbles, even with a "stump" of a neck left, the neck is nothing without the shoulders and body attached to it. Especially for the movement it was getting.

Maybe someone should tag a warning here, since it does show a severed dog head. Unlike the last entry, this one is legit. Very disturbing, but then again, so is most medical research.

From Wiki:

"Fact or fiction?

Since its Prelinger Archives release, the film has provoked much controversy.

Bryukhonenko`s decapitation experiment was remarked upon by George Bernard Shaw.[1]

Bryukhonenko developed a new version of the autojektor (for use on humans) in the same year; it can be seen today on display at the Museum of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery in Russia. Bryukhonenko was posthumously awarded the prestigious Lenin Prize."

It`s real.

Just so you know, that`s a real dog`s head, but it isn`t actually severed. This is just a remake to show what happened during the real experiment.
