Let`s all love each other...blah blah blah

Seems like Jesus talked about brotherly love.
Not much has changed since then...we`re still doing the same things.
    Human nature will not change.
    Face it.
Deal with it and stop dreaming of impossible utopia.

    @ Gerry1of1;

Agreeing with Kain1 here. Your 40-49 years have
made you a bitter old man. And it`s quite frankly
sad to see. You`re gay, yet you`re racist. You `understand` humanity, yet you don`t do anything
to become part of the solution.

The world is better off without people like you
who think there`s no point in changing themselves
and their way of thinking, because others won`t
do the same or because you feel one person won`t
    make a difference. You`re everything that`s
    wrong with the world today.

    Sad.

As to the haters... Me? Cynical? Probably. Biter? no.

Here`s the deal... You cannot free a slave, he can only free himself. For those of you who don`t want to exercise your gray matter and think that one through I`ll just spell it out for you.

You can`t give anyone freedom. He`ll just throw it away on the next Master that comes along. Whether that`s a religious zealot or a military dictator. He has to want it enough to fight for it himself!

In the U.S. we freed slaves, but they lived just above slave level for another hundered years before they themselves said ENOUGH and got their status and rights and freedoms for themselves.

This has to be settled by the people themselves, not with our intervention.

    Bitter - no
Wiser than an idealistic 18 year old? - a little maybe

Betterment for mankind? I am sure all of you will disagree and pretty much hate me this, however, the only logical choice to save all of mankind is mass genocide, abolishment of all religion and a child bearing cap of two after all the killing is done.

The world is overpopulated and will be soon overpopulated to the point where we cannot feed ourselves. Forget fuel... food will run out faster. In 50-100 years, war will look like a vacation compared to the innevitable alternatives. We have stupid people popping out babies, while the educated do not (because they are educated). We want to save thousands of starving children in Africa so they can what? Grow up and create more starving children?

The answer is brutal, but nobody will do it. We will kill ourselves because we are a virus.

In his touching video, you see the riot police performing their function and I`ve often wondered if they`re all just doing their jobs or may feel for the peoples` uprisings. I think it`d be a photo moment when you see a riot police officer drop his arms and helmet, thank his associates and then join the crowd in support.

Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Bahrain and so on, the peoples of these countries have all, as you put it, said ENOUGH, and are fighting for their freedom, but are being gunned down for their effort.. I completely agree that you cannot GIVE people freedom. But to stand idly by and watch people fighting their oppressors get gunned down by the armies of the tyrants, from the safety of you couch, and not give a f***, is in my opinion the very pinnacle of douchebaggery..

I don`t vote a party ticket. I make my mind up based on the facts and issues.

As for candidates, I voted for Obama. Would you call him an interventionist anti-gay candidate? But I didn`t so much vote for him as against the other guy who was worse.

As for this kind of rubbish:

But to stand idly by and watch people fighting their oppressors get gunned down by the armies of the tyrants, from the safety of you couch, and not give a f***

I wonder if you realise that`s what supporters of, for example, the Taliban are saying. From the Taliban`s point of view, they`re righteous people rising up against the armies of the tyrants oppressing them.

There is a degree of civil war in some countries. It`s currently fashionable in the west to think about some *and only some* of them and pointlessly state support for what we`re told is one of the sides (although it isn`t as simple as only two sides).

I`ll pick a random example to illustrate - what are you doing about the Republic of the Congo? Why aren`t you raging at people who haven`t pointlessly chosen a side to support in that civil war? It`s far worse than the ones in the countries you list.

    In conclusion:

If you go to one of your chosen countries, take up arms and fight for one of the sides, I`ll respect you for making a stand.

If you join a neutral aid organisation such as Medicins Sans Frontieres and help those harmed by civil wats, I`ll respect you for making a stand.

If you continue to do less to support any side than most people do to support a sports team (do you pay for a sports channel on TV or buy any team-related merchandise?) and then rage hypocritically at people who do no less than you do anyway, I`ll continue to not respect you.

Gerry, serving in the military does not give you the right to criticize U.S. policy. Ironically enough, you serving gives others the right. In a round about way you gave me the right (or maybe it wasn`t so round about, but judging by your age, it probably wasn`t you directly).

However, criticizing is one thing but it is useless without actions. If you don`t like something then do what you can to change it. Just try to make sure you are thinking of the greater good and not your own.

Gerry is right, Lemon. Ideal and reality will never be the same because everyone has different thoughts on what ideal is. It`s nice to think we should be supporting what we see as freedom and basic rights all over the world, but it`s not feasible. Why Libya? Why not Saudi Arabia? They treat women badly there, yes? Why not any of the other crappy countries? I think you know the answer, but that`s reality.

But don`t be hatin` on those who have seen more and have a differant view.

I think whatever is gained is more valued when earned, not given.
You dispute my conviction. Time will tell which is right.

But historically, the U.S. has not been very good at picking sides. Not in the last 50 years anyway.
Remember, we backed Sadam Hussein, the Taliban, the Shaw of Iran, and the list is long.
But since we are such bad judges of character, perhaps we should stay out of it.

You have the right to think I`m a bad person for caring about these people if that`s what you want

No, I think you`re a bad person for your hypocrisy and baseless righteousness on any issue you know hardly anything about while ranting at people who are doing no less than you are (i.e. nothing) but not being hypocritical about it.

but you still haven`t explained to me why you (seemingly) don`t care about them?

I prefer not to rant at people for not having the kneejerk reaction their media has told them to have to a selected few riots and civil wars while ignoring all the others. You don`t even know what the sides are, but you`re utterly certain it`s a simple case of oppressive tyranny being overthrown that you can enjoy from the safety of your couch and pretend you`re part of in order to big yourself up in your own mind.

You may see that as not caring if you like. I don`t care about that.

While I don`t agree with kain1`s rant, I don`t entirely agree with this statement. It isn`t? The guy`s practically been head of state for 42 years.

"If you go to one of your chosen countries, take up arms and fight for one of the sides, I`ll respect you for making a stand".

I`m going around some of these countries to get a better perspective on the situation in April. Not going to the African ones, just the Arab ones.

    I`m not taking up arms.

Aaaaaand.... I think that might be all I can say without potentially getting in trouble.

Long story short: Most Arabs, worldwide, are in favour of these revolutions, and of everyone I`ve talked to (sample size in the hundreds) it is almost entirely because of the "getting rid of dictators" part.

I`ll weigh in more in May after I`ve been around.

I don`t know, are you just wondering?

Here`s my question: Have you ever written anything on IAB that`s true? Your alleged quote above is false because a few words from a sentence are not the sentence.

That was because it was such a stupid question that I assumed you were using it as a rhetorical device.

    I still do.

By your own standards, you don`t care about the far worse suffering in other parts of the world, since you`re not raging at other people for doing as little as you are about it. I used the Congo as an example before - it still stands as one, but it`s far from the only one.

"so that was charlie chaplin as hitler? hmm..."

No, that was Charlie Chaplin playing a Jewish barber impersonating a fascist dictator who was a parody of Hitler.

...the simple version being that this speech skewers Hitler and Nazism. Woot.

Just who is behind the uprising in the Middle Eastern countries? I hear lots of support for "the people rising up to throw off the shackles of dictatorship" but who is behind the throngs of people we see on tv? Who has been preparing to step into the voids left by these regimes?

Proctor & Gamble, Disney, McDondald`s and Apple. The `Shock Doctrine` does not discriminate.

Those people have been at war with one another for thousands of years. Literally. A video on the internet doesn`t mean dick to them.

@Assasin_963: It`s not about them being at war with each other. It`s about the people in these countries standing up against their dictators; within the country, not against other countries. Watch the news, man.

This makes me tear up.. I wish it was exactly was it said.. Humanity as one.. not bound by borders, one and the same. If we all cared for what we did for our country, they`d be no poverty. I donate but it`s like pissing in the wind `till everyone unites. Nationalism is retarded; I wish everyone would be the same even if it meant in the short term that someone would invade all other countries. Maybe when China becomes the superpower in a few years like people predict...

Zephid writes, “Corporate "Shock Doctrine" is a past event. “

Who said the Shock Doctrine was a corporate affair? Shock and Awe is administered on top Government levels. Shock is a mighty tool wielded by dictators and democratic bodies the world over. To think otherwise is weak. NEVER!...EVER underestimate the levels of greed and bias that rule nations.

“Shock Doctrine is a past event” tells me you know absolutely nothing about it...and that is sad. National applications of shock are still in their infancy you dick head! The implementation of shock in a political sense is very current.
