@Retardedbear

I agree. People never used to know what cigarettes did to you until it happened but now health classes focus on things like that. It doesn`t stop a lot of people but... I smoked for a bit but hated how my clothes smelled and my breath and knew what would happen if I continued so after 5 or so (cigarettes) I stopped.

Sometimes people just have addictive personalities though sadly

"The knowledge of the substances physical or psycological features is irrelevant to addiction problems."

If people are educated about the effects of a substance, they make more educated decisions. Take tobacco, for instance. Tobacco, unlike marijuana, causes physical dependency, and yet over the past 40 years, cigarette use has declined to less than half of what it was. The only thing that has significantly changed is tobacco education.

"Pleaso don`t try to use this "reefer-madness" that the mariuhana haters have been pushing since the 50`s."

It is a statistical fact that people who use marijuana are more likely to go on to use other drugs. The REASON, however, is simply because you have to buy marijuana from a drug dealer. I have seen this: someone goes to buy his usual bag from his dealer, and the dealer has something new on the table. He says, "the first line is free." Its pretty obvious where it goes from there.

@RETARDEDBEAR This is a complete falsehood. (..)and therefore people are less educated about it.
My comment was about access. Your reply is about research. My comment on access and usage stands undisputed. It`s been proven often, since the consumer revolution in the 1920`s.

People are more likely to fall victim to substance abuse if they are uneducated about it.
Decades of addiction research clearly show that certain people are emotionally subjected to addiction. The knowledge of the substances physical or psycological features is irrelevant to addiction problems.

Essentially, marijuana is a "gateway drug" BECAUSE it is illegal.

Pleaso don`t try to use this "reefer-madness" that the mariuhana haters have been pushing since the 50`s. You know it`s BS. Addictions starts with everything from alcohol to cocaine. The problem is always emotional.
Remember - im not against wee

@osirisascend... yeah, i wrote a master thesis too.. in fact, i think all the forum guys wrote a master thesis from time to another... :-D

So, is "you regurgitated crap" a normal rebuttal argument at the university you went to? Cause it sounds so scientific. Was it the university of Sesame Street? Nice masterplan dude, yeah sell dope and save the world. If the WTO isn`t interested in your "work" maybe you can sell it to Universal Pictures - they can make the next Cheech and Chong movie :-D

"However, when we increase accsess of something, people will automatically use a lot more."

This is a complete falsehood. When you ban a substance, you are also banning all research on it, and therefore people are less educated about it.

People are more likely to fall victim to substance abuse if they are uneducated about it. On top of that, people who do drugs and want to stop have nobody to turn to. The only person a drug user communicates with about their drug use is the drug dealer, who, obviously, wants them to continue using the drug.

If marijuana were legal, marijuana users would never be exposed to hard drugs like cocaine and heroine. As it is now, you have to buy marijuana from a dealer, and that dealer wants you to buy the addictive drugs, which are far more lucrative. Essentially, marijuana is a "gateway drug" BECAUSE it is illegal.

@ Student Law: Wow... thank you for all of that... I lived in the Netherlands briefly, and still travel there somewhat frequently... You`re full of crap, and your posts above serve no purpose other than an attempt to "dazzle" the rest of us with your vast wealth of knowledge.

The topic of my Master`s Thesis was eliminating the national deficit through the legalization, regulation, and taxation of illegal substances... Most of what you`ve regurgitated up there is crap.

I bet the gardener who got busted in the photo was pretty bummed... his ladies looked like they were getting close to being done.

studen law don`t be drating moron, pot is legal in the netherlands here... did NOT lead to a increase of usage. pot would not be sold in in a supermarket next to the nestle just like hard booze is not either(at least here, there is a seperate section for any booze other then beer) pot is not something you buy more because it`s available, we proved it so stop bullpooting about it.

makeing pot legal only led to me NOT getting stabbed so a junky can get his next overpriced fix.

About pot vs. alcohol and legality: If both were illegal today, and one was to become legal - i think any goverment in the world would make pot legal, and keep alcohol illegal. Every scientist, every politician and every single normal person KNOWS that pot is far less harmful. The problem is accsess, not harm.

For obvious cultural reasons we cannot criminalize alcohol. However, when we increase accsess of something, people will automatically use a lot more. It is proven every day, in every board room, or hardware, food or electrical store or any place where producers like Nestlé negotiate with vendors like WalMart - fighting like dogs for inches of shelf space - knowing that human beings have a natural habit of choosing the one easily accessible. Hence making pot legally sold will increase the usage, and looking at the devastating cost alcohol puts upon the entire western society most people are very restricted about legalizing another drug for recreational use.

@tn11: Have you been smoking pot right now? It`s ok dude - but, like they say in AA meetings: "if you have been using today, please don`t share, just listen." i mean, you`re talking about unicorns here, and not really making much sense. Wtf?

Of course people will be breaking the laws... the point with my proposal is where should police focus their efforts? What sort of freedoms should people be granted? Where can we draw the line between what people should be allowed to do, and what they feel they should be allowed to do.

The main point about making single- plant home growing for own use legal, and mass production for revenue illegal, is that 1. it draws a natural line between autonomy for the individual and govermental interferement and nr. 2. it gives the police a task that they may actually be able to fulfill. Letting people grow their own weed will also reduce the market share for aforementioned mass producers.

I don`t smoke pot, personally. Not that I have anything against it, it just sends me all wobbly. Personal choice and all that.

But I`ve never understood why things like alcohol and cigarettes are legal and pot isn`t. Hey, they`re all drugs. Alcohol f*cks your liver, cigarettes cause all kinds of f*ck-ups, not least of which lung cancer. Best I can tell, Marijuana is pretty benign.

Meh, I guess I`ll never understand it. Why criminalise a bit of herbal while allowing cancer-sticks in the same breath?

p.s. I smoke cigarettes, I know how retarded they are. If they were illegal and hard to obtain, I`d have given them up by now.

Comparing legalization of pot to legalization of something like murder is retarded solely on the ideal that Smoking pot isn`t harmful to your fellow man. Murder is... So comparing the two isn`t fair, because its not a question of morality to smoke pot.

Here`s the truth: Marijuana is only illegal because Cotton and tobacco were both cash crops in the early years of this country. So much like the oii companies do NOW, they controlled the government`s actions on many subjects. Hemp threatened to destroy the cotton industry, so they lobbied to ban its use. Hemp oil is also a very efficient lubricant, thus the oil companies have reason to want to keep it buried. The legality of Marijuana is, in essence. the result of an ages old farming industry dispute that got handed down to a newer industry with just as much to lose.

@blckhawk1234

There is already "pot" candy bars and drinks. Also "pot" ice cream etc. etc. etc. Just because it`s legal, doesn`t mean they will be able to advertise to you specifically. I hope they legalize and put some restrictions on it like they do with tobacco. They can`t advertise tobacco anymore, not on TV at least... Legalizing would get rid of most of the crime associated with weed, like the Mexican drug cartels that rip up our natural resources so they have hidden places to grow it.

Student_Law- That is remarkably naive. Do you really think that could possibly work? I mean you can make alcohol in your house fairly easily, but who does? There is always going to be people who want to buy things from others rather than creating it themselves. Do you think that bust above is someone`s personal stash? Umm no. There are groves of bud hidden in forests in Northern California. Whole groves. You can`t go hiking in some of the forests because some pot grower will assume you are invading his fields and shoot you with no warning. Sure, if we lived in an alternate universe with fairies and unicorns and people who are willing to work for the things they want instead of purchasing from some one else, your idea might work. And since I have personally seen no unicorns or fairies it ain`t happening in this world.

NEVER EVER LEGALIZE IT!

It should be decriminalized and used as medicine. If it becomes legal, we will be getting THC infused candy bars and drinks. I do not want the poo being advertised to me and I do not want corporations getting a hold of it.

@ person below me

marijuana is a gateway drug because it`s illegal. it`s put in the same category as other illegal drugs such as cocaine, meth, etc. think about it, when people take tylenol or advil, do you think they are exposed to drugs like heroin and such? no, because they`re legal, you can find them on convenience stores unlike marijuana which is mostly found in the streets. i seriously don`t understand why they won`t legalize weed when so many people use it, and a majority use it illegally due to the fact that it`s illegal. if marijuana was sold in let`s say a pharmacy, it would expose you to other legal drugs, candy bars and a bag of chips instead of it being sold in the streets wich exposes you to criminals including criminals who also sell other illegal narcotics. i know the government realizes this but they choose to keep it illegal just to punish the many people who use it if they are caught, then make money off of it, hypocrites...

That is a drug, right?
He said in the interview the drug he was on was "Charlie Sheen".

People should be allowed to grow their own weed and smoke it. I don`t think mass manufactoring and coffee shops should be legal. That would only increase the drug use. We allready have enough problems with alcohol.

Actually i think that whatever drug you can make for your self, and smoke, snort or even inject - let people cook what they like in their own kitchens if they want to, but no more mass produced store sold drugs - it`s enough with the alcohol allready.

@kirkyboy2005 true, I don`t realy like to pay taxes (not much BTW) to help the junkies, but since I already do and seems to be fine, and I realy do belive that a legalisation of recrational drugs would eliminate many hard drug junkies. I would love to see my taxes that goes to fight the drugs go to helping hospitals and schools for new equipments or even lower taxes...

LEGALIZE IT ALREADY! if pot was considered in the same manner that alcohol is, that is, controlled to keep it out of the hands of minors (ha-ha) and taxed, the government would save a packet of money not having to prosecute people for possession. and the excise taxes collected on one year`s worth of legal pot could pay off a lot of our national debt. and growing and processing hemp legally would provide much needed job growth in places like rural arkansas where i live. the american textile industry would benefit, as would other industries. so LEGALIZE IT ALREADY!
bet your views arent the same about opium ggolbez
Opium and it`s other forms are derivatives of the poppy plant.

The DRUG forms are extracted and purified to get the effects.

Ever eaten a poppy seed? Yeah, those come from the same plant.
@ggolbez
cocaine is also derived from a plant...
But the plant itself is not dangerous, it`s the extracted and process cocaine inside that is.

Hell, natives in the areas where Coca grows chew on, and make tea from, the leaves of the plant. In that form, it`s no worse than Caffeine.

Besides, the Cannabis plant isn`t even illegal because of the marijuana. It`s illegal because of the hemp, it`s many uses, and the industries that want to keep it off the market because it could put them out of business.

Actually, I take that back. Tobacco wants to keep marijuana off the market, so it IS partially because of marijuana.

@kirkyboy2005 my view is that`s it`s your own body and you should be able to do what the drat you want with it, if you want to drink booz until you can`t stand up right, and remember a thing go ahead I wont stop you.
If you want to take meth until your teeth fals out, go ahead.
I will be smoking weed until I die of natural causes or killed,
And nobody should be able to stop me from smoking weed because IT`S MY dratING BODY!

I don`t know how ggolbez feel about other drugs, but I just wanted share my view...

I love all the people insulting the cops. Real class acts. You realize that they don`t really have a choice on what to do, right? They are cops, they have to bust people for it. Even if it is a stupid law that shouldn`t be in place, that is their job. Should they just say "No chief, I refuse to do drug bust!"? Those guys have probably smoked weed at some point and just thought it was funny to be surrounded by so much.
