Of course, the whitebread editors at Yahoo will have you believe Warren G. died because you know, they all look alike.

Nate Dogg always seemed like the coolest guy ever.

Also, McGovern, that`s Slick Rick, a completely respectable rapper.

Those who don`t know who this guy is (Dont go by the pic, since the pic is of the wrong guy), look up the songs "Regulate" by Warren G (the man in the pic), "Til I Collapse" and "Shake that A ss" by Eminem, or "Next Episode" by Dr Dre just for starters. Nate Dogg is on all of those tracks (and that was just the ones off the top of my head. He`s collaborated with just about every major rap artist of the last 10 years.

@DrProfessor, Really really good bands (Bad Religion is a cornerstone for my musical foundation), but they aren`t new. They`re doing the same thing they`ve been doing for years, I`ll give you Henry Rollins as he branched out some, but most rockers haven`t. There haven`t been any intelligent rock bands to develop in recent years that I`m aware of.

@idiot_filter, Those are all great bands (except FNM), but I wouldn`t consider their music intelligent, except Tool and APC because of their extensive use of odd scales and time signatures, however if this is all that makes for intelligent music then Lil Jon and Gucci Mane are geniuses for being able to pull off 7/16. ToaDm and a7x had a few thought-provoking songs, but nothing approaching the level of most rappers.

Most metalheads I know dropped out and became burnouts, while many of the kids from the ghetto realized that a college degree was a good way to get out. The A/B students typically had a diverse taste in music while the D/F students stuck to 1 or 2 genres exclusively, regardless of what those genres were. At least that`s how it was at my high school.

Fugazi, Bad Religion, Tool, Propaghandi... just to name a couple initially. There are quite a few intelligent rockers, you just have to not listen to the radio.

I blast my heavy metal/jazz/blues-rock fusion from my immense truck, and push as-holes like you into the guardrails for driving like idiots. You simply can not argue with two and a half tons of steel...and when you try, it`s okay, because I can just run you over instead.
But, I guess that makes me a road-ruling as-hole too...

Stone Sour, Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman (older stuff was better), Faith No More (or ANYTHING involving Mike Patton), the Cult, A Perfect Circle and Tool (Any band that injects math sequences such as the Fibonacci Sequence into their music is intelligent in my book).... I could go on and on... I can`t list too many intelligent rap artists because I`m constantly reminded of dumbasses like Wiz Khalifa building an entire song of the colors Black and Yellow or that RETARDED old D4L song Laffy Taffy... I know there is intelligent hip hop, and as a fan of Lupe Fiasco, I`ve heard it with my own ears, but majority of whats POPULAR in the genre is music for the dumb...

I remember going to school and noticing that all the smarter kids getting As and Bs listened to rock and metal. All the kids getting Fs and Ds were the ghetto kids listening to rap. There CAN`T be a coincidence because I know I`m not the only one to see this...

@taylor_stone, I`m very white, but I can`t think of any intelligent rock songs or artists out now. I can name intelligent rap artists all day, went through a few thousand recent rock songs on my computer and couldn`t find a single group that I would consider intelligent. Please remedy this situation.

@premierwondr, thanks for the blu suggestion, good tip.

That`s not Nate Dogg, but in all seriousness, R.I.P, one half of the Regulators (not talking about Billy the Kid and his bandits, yes I know now shut up) and a rapper from the good days of rap (pre-1996) will be missed. The rap world has lost yet another member of it`s ACTUAL talent pool.
Bring on the flood of inevitable crap rappers that hasn`t stopped since Shaggy *shudder*

OR

Keep a box of nails in the car to throw in front of your tires... You don`t rule the road just because your music is loud... I don`t move for anyone. If you`re being annoying, then YOU`RE gonna be the one to move, whether you want to or not. Or I could simply make a fast phone call to a few State Trooper friends of mine and have you pulled over for public nuisance.

Meh, not all rock is intelligent and not all hip hop is intelligent.

Most types of music have their time and their place.

If I`m in a party/fun environment then I want to hear something like Wiz Khalifa.
If I`m getting my work done I`m gonna play something more serious.
If I`m getting blazed I have a soundtrack for that.

There`s no doubt that there are plenty of MCs that can outrap Wiz Khalifa or whoever, but good luck putting that on at the average college house party and getting a positive response.

I hope you get where I`m coming from.

I`m not saying ALL rap is horrible (I`m a fan of Lupe Fiasco and Immortal Technique), but when the top song in the genre simply repeats colors over and over, I`d say I`d take intelligently written rock lyrics ANYDAY...

And for the record, rock music sounds better at high volume than rap because melody carries better than bass...

Damn I really want to hear more metal being blasted around. Everyone should be playing really really angry music really really loudly

=S

My good friend is in a hardcore band and I have to experience that being blasted in my ears all day.

I`d rather have Soulja Boy`s stupid lyrics liquefying my brain than metal raping my ears.

Ah yes the ignorance card. As if good rap doesn`t exist.
You don`t even need a time machine, you just need an open mind and some interest.

The only name I need to drop is Blu. He is the epitome of contemporary, artistic hip hop.
Why would you be listening to a rap station if you don`t like rap?
Allow me to answer this...

On my drive to work, I listen to my local rock/alt station (WBRU out of Providence) and for about half the trip, no matter how loud I have MY radio, I`m stuck listening to the crap music BLASTING from the douchebag next to me`s "tricked out" car. I`m not impressed you can shatter windows with your superior radio, and I don`t want to hear the music you`re playing. When I`m in MY car, I want to hear MY music... From experience, 90% of the people flooding the air with music on the highway are listening to RAP... Very rarely do I hear rock or metal being blasted like that... Take your shiit music elsewhere...

Yeah, he is a rapper. Why would you be listening to a rap station if you don`t like rap? Also, ironically you are dead wrong as well, as when musicians die, their music becomes horribly over played. Expect to hear Regulate about 20 times a day now.

@kairobert, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Slick Rick, Nas, Grandmaster Flash, Mos Def, Tribe Called Quest etc. I could really go on all day but I doubt that anything I say would change your mind. There are and have been plenty of poetic rappers, open up your horizons and realize that most good music just doesn`t fall into your lap, you will have to look for it.
