And hence, this is how the pharmaceutical companies make millions. Fill you full of sugar and tell you that it`s medicine. Mind over matter.....

3 minutes to tell you placebos don`t really work, it`s just in your head.

Captain obvious, your title has been passed on.

3 minutes to tell you placebos don`t really work, it`s just in your head.

You mean to tell us that they really DO work because all a placebo is meant to do is create a mental cure. So it would be 3 minutes to tell us that they really DO cause a cure if you believe that they do. Not to tell us they just don`t work...

Here`s a thought. We know that they work because we think they do. We know that medicine has side effects. We tell the patient (in the US at least) what those side effects might be, so they`ll know to stop taking the meds and talk to their doctors. How often does the patient experience the side effect simply because they`ve been warned.

I guess that`s the "nocebo" effect they touched on where if a placebo is said to cause pain, it will.

anyone else wanna go listen to placebo now?

but seriously, i`m getting sick of these videos with graphics that write the words as they are said and zoom all over the place. this one wasn`t too bad but i`m still sick of that editing style.

You know how parents think sugar makes their kids hyperactive? Not only is it a placebo for the kid, but the parent`s perspective of their kids is changed. Sugar has been proven not to have anything to do with hyperactivity.

something that this video forgot to mention was that placebo`s are also more effective if the doctor administering the placebo doesnt know they are placebos and also believes the pills are real.

    now THAT is weird.

@skullgrin WHat`s so weird about that. If the doctor believes he is using a real cure then he is more convincing to the patient. Otherwise the effect is depending on how good an actor he is.

All we need to do is find an effective placebo to treat Aids, Cancer, and Herpes Simplex - can`t be the only person to have thought of this.
