I don`t get why people do that to their ears. Once they get tired of that fad their ears will just be floppy bits of skin hanging down to their chins.

If you took the time to read the very next sentence in my post, you`d see that I said "aside from the law".

The law isn`t the reason why something should be the case. The reason behind the law being there in the first place is.

And that`s what I`m questioning: why does the law say 18?

In your country you let people drive younger than that. In mine, you can have sex at 16. So you tell me why.

"I`ll also say this. It`s obvious to me that you have no kids."

I`m a gay man, so correct.

"Quite honestly, you sound like a rebellious youth yourself who is still mad at the establishment and for being held back by "the man"."

I`m 26. I own a house. I pay a mortgage. I work in government IT. My lunch today consists of a sandwich of brie, hummus and granary bread.

I`m about as establishment as you can get.

um, why is this titled "vegan atheist" instead of "pierced to high heaven" kid?

cuz i`m not really seeing the vegan or atheist part, and it seems like his non-religious and eating habits don`t matter right now. the gaping holes in his ears and the septum piercing seem to however. definitely not understanding why his parents would let him do all that........

What is wrong with you? You see no difference between age 13 and age 18? You, my dear, demented, friend are twisted. More twisted than this kids parents. You may not see a differenece but the rest of the world does.
Alright, you want to know why age 18? Because in our country that`s the law. Since we know the law, we teach our kids that 18 is the deadline to be considered responsible. By having a deadline, the kids also know they have to be "grown up" by then. Now we all know that doesn`t always happen but, legally, it does.
I`ll also say this. It`s obvious to me that you have no kids. No real parent would agree with you on all of your wacko positions. Quite honestly, you sound like a rebellious youth yourself who is still mad at the establishment and for being held back by "the man". I`m not going to try and change your mind because at this point, I think your being obstinate just for kicks.

I love how getting piercings is becoming more and more popular and less unique, yet people with piercings still claim to be expressing their individuality XD. If you want to express your individuality, just be yourself and realize that somewhere, at some point in time, someone has already done/thought of everything you ever wanted to do/thought of.

Way to stereotype. Who are you to say what a mountain lion does or does not believe in? IMHO they are completely entitled to their own opinion. in fact, I was talking to one this past week who aborted her entire litter because she didn`t want her man to find out they were gonna be half-bobcat! She conceived while he was deployed out in the Rocky Mountains..

Vegans run the risk of malnutrition as adults, and i believe malnutrition can impede proper brain development. I am not a fan of the meat or dairy industry as they stand today, and have ethical objections to our treatment of livestock, this however does not mean that I am opposed to eating meat or dairy in general.

@gary8162

Why 18? What`s special about that age?

Aside from it being the legal age of consent for most cultures, why is an arbitrary length of time better than the judgement of the parents who know the kid better than anyone else in the world when it comes to deciding what`s best for him?

At ANY age you`re going to make decisions that have effects further on down through your life. I see no difference between 13 and 18.

It`s the person, not the age, that defines whether someone is capable of making a decision.

So he`s ruined his chances of ever working in a soulless corporate office cubicle farm...not exactly a great crippling blow to his life.

And adulthood doesn`t suddenly kick in at age 18. It`s a slow, gradual progression with no easy to define turning points, no matter how the law tries to simplify it.

@IshiiDaFishy

Don`t be silly! Everyone knows Mountain Lions are pro-life.

Peace and love, bruh, peace and love. I say, let the kid do what he wants, but if/when it comes to bite him in the ass, look him straight in the eyes and say, `You brought it upon yourself, son.`

It worked for me. When I was arrested, its what I was told. Did I break the law again? No. When I skipped town, and lived on the streets, its what I was told. Did I skip town again? well, yes. But not without making sure I had work and a place to live, etc, before I did it.

This kid looks absolutely awful. The giant loops in the ears look horrible on anyone, even more so on a little kid. Reading through his page and looking at his pictures, I`d raise serious concerns that he was abused, sexually or physically, at some point in his life. All this body modification and calling a 25 year old man "father" seem to be reliving the trauma.

You can`t be that jaded already, but consider this. At 13, He has his whole life ahead of him. A world of opportunity. One day, he says to his parents "Can I get my ears & nose pierced?" and his parents say "Sure. We want you to be able to express yourself." Then he says "Can I get my ear piercings stretched bigger?" It`s at this point that the parents should have said "I would rather you wait until you`re 18 or older BECAUSE that is a major life decision." You do not, under any circumstances, allow this type of body mod to happen under the age of 18. I didn`t even let my daughter get her ears pierced until she was eighteen. Since then, she has gotten quite a few, which was HER ADULT choice. This kids parents have removed that choice from him.
You`re right. Life is about more than getting a job. But how many people do you know going through life without a job. Don`t be naive.

2: Money is important.

Response: It really, really isn`t. You need a certain amount to survive, and some of your dreams may need money to facilitate them, but if money IS your dream, then you`re missing out on so much.

3: He`s too young to know what he`ll want in future, so he shouldn`t make such life-altering decisions now.

Response: That`s true of all of us, regardless of our age. None of us know who we`ll be or what we`ll want in the years to come. So you can either think "I better not get that body modification because maybe I`ll want to be *insert career here* ten years from now and I`ll spoil my chances"...or you can realise that thinking like that means you`ll never make ANY choices at all, and just resign yourself to knowing that there will always be things you can`t do or be, so you should just focus on what you CAN do and be.

And if your desires for life change over time...roll with it. That`s life.

"that is very true, but withou employment, the parts of life that AREN`T all about getting a job become very hard to enjoy. Sadly, in this day and age, EVERYTHING is about money."

We need to break this down into a few things:

1: His appearance will prevent him from getting a job/a good job.

Response: His appearance may be a problem for some lines of work, or for some employers, but by no means all. He might be preventing himself from getting into those lines of work later, sure. But that is true of many things you do as a kid: if you don`t study Mandarin Chinese, you`re going to rule yourself out of all those sweet translation jobs when you grow up. Also, not all means of earning money are reliant upon being hired by someone.

Fingernails present a huge health risk (they trap dirt and bacteria under them), and serve no useful purpose in day to day life.

So...did your parents arange to have your fingernails ripped out when you were a baby?

WHY NOT?

"Circumcision is necessary" - then why did nature outfit men with foreskin?

Following that kind of logic nails become "necessary to remove" too. They gather all kinds of germs and they do not serve any other purpose than protecting the soft skin below them.

Narrowminded are those who automatically think everyone should do what THEY do just because... well they do it.

Totally untrue. Personal hygiene prevents any problems that may occur with an uncircumcised wiener. Only if a guy doesn`t wash... then there`s a problem. @[email protected] ...and you`re nasty.

Fist of all you are missing the whole point. This child is too young to know how this will affect his future chances of getting a job. A prospective employer will look at him and think "There`s no way this kid sees my customers. He`ll end up costing me money". Ergo, his appearance just cost him an opportunity. Like it or not, we live in a world where people make judgements based on first impressions, i.e. your looks. You can`t tell me that you don`t do the same thing, even if you have facial body mods yourself.
Secondly. I never said circumcision is O.K. I personally think it should not be done.
Third. I`m far from racist. I`ve seen all kinds of oddities in/on people (40 years in the art world)and I`ll tell you something. Those who couldn`t achieve the success they strove for in their field of study tried to get other jobs and couldn`t find anything decent. They`re bitter. Not only that, most have regretted the mods.

"Are you really comparing circumcision to this?"

Yes, I am.

It`s an unnecessary body modification that adults inflict upon children too young to even voice an opinion about it.

YOU only think it`s okay because it`s frightfully common in your country. Outside of your country, not so much.

"But if I see a nose ring and giant f*cking earlobes, I`m grossed out and would rather deal with someone else, as would most people."

So if you`re racist and would rather not deal with black people serving you, the employers shouldn`t hire black people?

Grow a pair. You`re surrounded by people who don`t meet your aesthetic sensibilities. I`m sure you can manage not to get the vapours every time you come face to face with them.

Are you really comparing circumcision to this? You have to be a special kind of stupid. When I, as a customer, am dealing with an employee or salesman, I`m not checking in their pants to see if they`ve been circumcised. But if I see a nose ring and giant f*cking earlobes, I`m grossed out and would rather deal with someone else, as would most people. People judge other people by how they look all the time. Why don`t you get your nose ringed, earlobe stretched, head out of your ass and smell the coffee.

...for all you male Americans protesting this; look down inside your underwear. If you`re missing a foreskin, and haven`t had it since your childhood, then you can quit complaining about this.

Because if YOUR parents irreversably cut off a chunk of flesh from your body before you were even old enough to talk, I think it`s a bit rich for you to be complaining about what this kid`s parents allowed him to do.

"I think this kid`s radical behavior needs a correction before these things get out of hand."

Similiar words were no doubt spoken of women who demanded the vote, of black people who fought for their freedom, of the poor who struggled for a decent standard of living.

This is hardly the same league, I freely admit. But your words ring of the demand to CONFORM without thought.

You say you`re an atheist. How would you like your "defiance" against the theist status quo to be corrected because someone decided that, at age 20, you`re not intelligent enough to decide for yourself?

Is it child abuse to allow a minor to do something to so gravely deform their growing body?!
ON the other hand.. just yesterday I saw a mother with a two month old child *which had pierced ears*.
Personally.. I`d be loath to allow my child to do anything permanently scarring to their body while their personality is still developing. Particularly not something that would likely influence the way others looked at them for the rest of their lives.
This reminds me of that tween who got all the stars tattooed over her face.

I`m down with the atheist part - my 9 year-old daughter told me over a year ago that "How can anyone believe in Jesus? Do adults think the easter bunny and the tooth fairy are real too???" The body mods, on the other hand, really need to wait until the kid is older, until their bodies are pretty close to finishing the whole growing process. Mine wanted a Ramones tattoo when she was five - we got her "tattoo markers" instead. ^_^

@ScubaFett: Generally, the gauge size 0 (about 1/3 inch in diameter) is the point of no return, once you get there, there`s no going back to normal without surgery because the scar tissue prevents the holes from closing all the way. Everybody`s skin is different, of course, and the time you spend stretching matters, but it looks like this kid is well beyond an inch in diameter. Way too big to go back naturally, way too big for somebody this young in my opinion, but who am I to say?

Also, I decided I didn`t believe in God when I was 10 and started pointing out logic flaws in my rabbi`s lectures. I don`t see why this kid`s beliefs are such a big deal.

@skullgrin piercing ears is not child abuse, but someone has seriously drated up with this kid.

I think this kid`s radical behavior needs a correction before these things get out of hand. The kind of body modification he has already undergone requires surgery to correct; it doesn`t just return to normal in a few months.

Maybe his parents need to hug him more or something, or beat him! This sort of behavior is most likely either an act of defiance against the status quo and/or a yearning for attention.

I would also say that 13 is too early to declare yourself an atheist. To be agnostic would be more appropriate (atheism and being agnostic are two different things). You first need to be intelligent enough to explore religion before damning it. I am 20 and I have only recently made the decision to become an atheist after studying religion from Christianity to Buddhism.

"the only reason that people use the swastika is to cause controversy or prove a futile and arbitrary point"

or because it`s not really a swastika, it`s just the reversed of the symbol (the original really) which means good things in eastern asian cultures. just saying >> I didn`t see the rest of the convo

1.) I like how his ears are different sizes

2.) @thesmartkid I`m guessing more of a hipster, he wears those style of glasses ironically

@JayWood

"It depends on if the swastika is clockwise or counter clockwise, Hitler chose to reverse it"

Half correct.

The symbol can be shown either direction. The Nazis only used it "clockwise".

Many use it anti-clockwise today in order to avoid any Nazi link, but both clockwise and anti-clockwise are used when not in relation to fascism, and you can see both in use in many parts of the world.

"the only reason that people use the swastika is to cause controversy or prove a futile and arbitrary point"

Or because they know they`re in a free country and can do what they like with their OWN bodies or property?

Besides, you can read minds and tell what reason people do things, can you?

Why would you let a 13 year old do that to themself ? Cause his parents obviously had to OK it, since you need a parent with you unless you`re 16 and he can`t even pass for 13 lol.

Musuko42 - the only reason that people use the swastika is to cause controversy or prove a futile and arbitrary point, most people know that is an ancient symbol used out-with the Nazi regime but is there really a need to use it at all now? It`s main use now is to allow people to feel righteous and superior by pointing out it`s origins without any real connection to those origins.

"WHY THE F*CK WOULD HE WANT A SWASTIKA IMPLANT????"

It`s an ancient symbol, particularly important in India and multiple religions, dating back thousands of years.

It`s closely linked to fascism in our cultures due to the symbol`s comparitively recent misappropriation by the Nazis. This is by no means a universal association, and your aghast horror exposes your ignorance of this fact.

This kid doesn`t know what he`s doing. "old at heart" sure but being "old at heart" doesn`t constitute "I hope I offend you". That is the opposite of "old at heart" which implies that one is mature. This is why I stand by my opinion that some people should not breed.

Thoses ears are too far stretched to go back. He is far too young to have them. Vegan, good job, Atheist, even better job. Nose ring- well, it will come out if he changes his mind. Ears- no, those will need to be surgically repaired, so no good- he is too young.

I got dragged into attending a tumblr meetup in London last week.

Worst half hour of my life. It really was as bad as you`d imagine... around one hundred hipster teens all running around screaming memes and wearing ironic T-shirts and hugging each other. There wasn`t a hint of masculinity amongst them. I don`t think I`ve ever frowned harder than when someone shouted "MYSPACE FOR THE WIIN!" in the middle of a speech thing. I left after 30 minutes and spent the rest of the day exploring London instead.

This kid would have fit in perfectly. Also why did he have to ruin adventure time :(
