@crudson smoking a cigarette in public doesn`t make him a terrible person...
I don`t like when people smoke indoors or come on the bus right after they smoked, but that doesn`t make them terrible persons it just make them persons I don`t like because they smoke.

and who the fck is John Galliano?

Many of Dior`s fabulously rich & famous clients are Jewish or are just folks who are greatly offended by anti-semitic sentiments. The bottom line is that it`s bad for the bottom line. They could be raving freaking nazi`s over at Dior, but it`s bad for business to just spout off hateful pooe like that. Once this clip hit the airwaves, he was done there. Here in the States you are free to say what you want. And everyone else is free to judge you & fire you if they have cause. Consequences.

What part of "John Galliano- Head Designer of Christian Dior" do people not understand?

Those are pretty terribly remarks- but honestly I`m shocked Dior had the balls to fire him. As the head- designer, that`s a pretty ballsy move to just get rid of him. My best guess? They`ve been looking to get rid of him for a while...

solvent, its not like we are saying to hang the man because of his remarks. I would just like to have been there to tell him off myself. He can say what he likes, and we can talk about what an ignorant f*ck he is. neither one of us has to be happy with what the other said.

so i restate, "f*ck you too mr. galliano.".

Oh, come on, really?
If you call someone ugly, do you reckon it`s necessary to say "I love Hitler" and "your mothers and forefathers would have been gassed"?

lol.

The problem with accusations of antisemitism is that "Jew" refers to three distinct things; the Hebrew ethnicity, the Judaic religion, and citizens of the country of Israel. Both the religion and the country should be open to criticism, but most of the western world likes to equivocate either of those with discrimination against the ethnicity. It`s not just the left or just the right either. Liberals like to play the relativism game and don`t want anyone to criticize anyone else and the religious conservatives think that they are "supporting their brethren" by publicly being against "antisemitism" while calling Jews the devil in private.

"Freedom of speech" does NOT mean you can say whatever you want with no consequences. You have the freedom to tell me girls with green hair are ugly, and I have the freedom to tell you you`re an asstard.

Gerry, an employer has the right to fire whomever they choose if they decide they don`t think that person is suitable to represent their company. My boss is Jewish, and our office is located in a largely Jewish community. If I walked into the office one day and said I love Hitler, I wouldn`t blame him for firing me. It`s bad for business because it would offend most of our clients.
Bill Maher got fired for saying the terrorists weren`t cowards. Gerry was being a rabble rouser by proclaiming that only conservatives don`t have freedom of speech.
Well, Bill getting fired for voicing an opinion sort of makes my point, doesn`t it

Nobody said you can`t get fired for what you say. Bill Maher got fired for saying the terrorists weren`t cowards. Gerry was being a rabble rouser by proclaiming that only conservatives don`t have freedom of speech. Anyone with half a brain knows that`s not true.

Well, this drunken fool has shot himself in the proverbial foot! He`ll recover no doubt, but I think it`s good that such hate-filled bigots tell us how they really feel, so we can avoid them!

@sbeelz: that university guy in the USA who got fired for saying women`s brains are different than mens. Which is true; he was quoting a study done at his own U, but his enemies took advantage of this to silence his right-wing voice.
Not a politician, true, but someone fired for speaking the truth.

Now on the other hand, Helen Thomas also got fired from her Press Corps job for vitriolic anti-sematism, so if you`re stupid enough to BE anti-sematic, keep your mouth shut!

Well, Mr. Galliano is gay, so he would also have died in a concentration camp, while his fellow victims would have been wearing a yellow star, he would have been wearing a pink one...so Mr. Galliano, yuo may love Hitler, but he hated and would have killed you...

Madest has already pwned you on this Gerry, but just to add my two cents- freedom of speech does not mean you can say whatever you want without being publicly criticized. Name ONE INSTANCE of a conservative being arrested for expressing an opinion, or STFU.

American law is irrelevant here. This was in France.
Now, I think what he said was stupid.
But he was drunk and was probably just saying it to make friends laugh.
I don`t think he was serious
In my experience, alcohol tends to make people more honest about their actual thoughts and feelings. Not less.

Yeah he wouldn`t go to jail here in America. He could lose his job but that`s the employers discretion. You know all this, you`re just wearing a rabble rouser outfit you borrowed from AJ or something. Get with it. You`re not a moron.

people deserve their freedom of speech. Companies also deserve the right to employ who they think will do the best for their business. Since this guy is apparently famous enough for the internet to give a sh*t about (i`ve never heard of him) and especially mentioned alongside his employer, said employer deserves the freedom to fire him to protect their public image.

That being said, i sometimes talk exactly like this when hanging out with some of my friends. i don`t believe any of it, but it`s fun. However, i`m smart enough to not do it when there`s any chance of being recorded. Also, I`m not famous or representative of any organization.

Unless you`ve been kidnapped by CrakrJak you aught to get your facts straight. This happened in Paris France where Anti-semitism is indeed outlawed. He`s looking at 6months. He`d be free to say this in America but he could be fired for it too.
Get your American criticism together Gerry. You know how this country works.

"Angelmassb? really? fire someone for their thoughts? so much for "free speech" "

Just because you have free speech doesnt protect you. Many models and celebrities said they would support the Dior line or work with Galliano again. At that point it, his speech affects business and his firing is justified.

@Gerry
he may have been drunk, he may have been trying to impress his friends. He may not have meant a single word of it. The first amendment FORBIDS government to restrict speech. In America, free speech is a corner stone of the constitution.
However.

In todays society, `Hate speech` is NOT tolerated. It`s not tolerated by the vast majority of people, and if I was to go around and shout that in the street, it could be entirely possibly that I would not be charged if I didn`t not solicit violence. However, I would rightly get my ass kicked.

From a supreme court ruling (Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson), it was ruled that Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, employers may sometimes be PROSECUTED for tolerating "hate speech" by their employees, if that speech contributes to a broader pattern of harassment resulting in a "hostile or offensive working environment" for other employees.

In other words Gerry, yes, he was right

I don`t even know who the guy is. He is also drunk as hell, might not even mean what he`s saying.

I never understood why not liking jewish people is so taboo. People hate muslims all the time. People hate christians all the time. And for no more reason other than they`re of a certain religious organization.

But the "I love hitler" was a bit much.
