Riiiight, because someone who is 17 years and 364 days old is exactly the same as a preteen child.

(the law in my country puts the age at 16, not 18, before anyone kicks off).

Photoshop? how dare you make light of this woman`s condition. Adult Child Headitis is a serious illness.

Really though, going about their message in a bad way how, exactly? This conveys exactly the point they`re trying to make. Sexualizing children is wrong.

In the same vein, you used the wrong form if "it" and "is". You should have said "it`s", which is the contraction of the two words. "Its" implies possession.

You know, I really have a problem with organizations trying to lump child molestation and statutory rape together. There is a world of difference between an adult having sex with, say, a 10 year old and an 18 year old having sex with a 16 year old. It`s totally drated that high school kids are getting labeled as rapists for having consensual sex with partners with whom they are in loving relationships.

    @sbeelz

    I completely agree.

I am 17, my boyfriend is 19 and will be 20 next month. In my state, a person aged 16 or older is allowed to have sex with a consenting partner aged 14 or older. However, 18 and older residents can only have sex with those 16 and older.
Therefore, for me to be having sexual relations with my boyfriend is not unlawful. Just because I`m under 18 doesn`t mean he`s a pedophile, due to my age.

    This poster is highly misleading.

See the age of consent in Canada is 16. You should always aim for 18 and over and consider that 2 years the buffer that keeps you out of jail. But like has been said, this is aimed towards pedophiles and pedophiles don`t appreciate the double D`s as much as no tits soooooo...

"not illegal but really really wrong."

Only in the same way that it`s really really wrong to daydream about strangling your boss when he says "yeah...I`m gonna have to ask you to come in on Saturday..."

So long as nobody`s getting hurt, what`s the problem? The paedophile`s molestation daydreams and your murderous daydreams are equally harmful; that is, they`re not harming anyone at all.

Let them have the fantasies. It`s a safe outlet.

And because no doubt someone will say "if we let them have the fantasy, they`ll move on to doing it for real someday": who here has killed a virtual character in a video game? Have you moved on to killing a real person yet?

Wow @ Musuko, Did you really just compare child molestation to video games? Let me ask you this, Is masturbation enough of an outlet for you that you never want to have sex? For most men its a substitute for when they can`t have sex, or in between. And geuss what, most men take it when they can get it. You were right about one thing. One is an outlet, the other is a temporary substitute.

In the UK its 16 but still...I know you do get really grown up 16 year old girls these days, but still, thats all attitude and artiface most of the time. I was a child at 16 emotionally, there was no way I was grown up enough to understand the full implications of having a sexual relationship with someone. I think it should be 18 for definite, I found at 18 my judgement was much better even in that 2 years difference.

"Musuko, Did you really just compare child molestation to video games?"

No, I compared fantasising about child molestation to fantasising about murder (via video games).

    @pip-pip666

"I was a child at 16 emotionally, there was no way I was grown up enough to understand the full implications of having a sexual relationship with someone. I think it should be 18 for definite, I found at 18 my judgement was much better even in that 2 years difference."

If a 50 year old said "I don`t feel ready for sex, therefore no-one under 50 should be allowed to have sex", would you support that?

In my opinion, sixteen is already too old: you have a loaded gun between your legs from puberty onwards. You should be made responsible for it as soon as it becomes capable of making babies/spreading diseases.

Not all, mind, just most and thats why the legal age, in my opinion should be raised to be in line with other `adult` pastimes, because, and don`t get me wrong here, I`m not saying it always has to involve love by any stretch of the imagination, a healthy amount of respect is sometimes plenty, but either way sex is for consenting adults not teenagers.

    @Musuko42

Of course you are right if you put it like that, everyone is different. There might be 16 year olds in loving relationships that discuss it at length and decide all things considered they are ready for sex, but there won`t be many. The majority of sixteen year old females (which is the only way I can understand this having been one) probably do it for the wrong reasons, pressure to fit in, fear of the unknown so they just want to get it over and done with, boyfriend bugging them about it, this probably does outnumber the ones who look back on sex in late teens fondly. So no, I disagree that teenagers can be taught this as by nature teenagers are wilful and think theyknow best and would never listen. Given free reign to use their sexuality wisely I don`t thinks its unfair to say that most 16 year old boys would probably have sex indiscriminately to some degree if they could and have little regard for the feelings of their partners, sexual health or consequences. Cont.

@paddy215. Well yeah of course, which just makes it all the more difficult to see past the immediate pleasure of it and make them understand sex is the big deal it is. I honestly am not some buttoned up prude that believes sex should be something done between married couples and as quickly and noiselessly as possible, i`ve slept with a lot of people, men and women for the right reasons, because I wanted to and they wanted to. I`m about to get married now and I would like to think when I have an 16 year old son or daughter they won`t be too scared or daft or full of bravado to think about it before they jump into bed with someone.

That is true of almost everyone when they first have sex, regardless of what age they are when they start, 16 or 60.

Just like driving a car: you are going to make mistakes when you first start out doing it.

It`s inexerience, not youth, that causes the problem.

All you can do is provide preparation (driver training/sex education) and protection (seatbelts/condoms).

Because at the end of the day, nature turns children into functioning sexual beings at about age 13. To then say that these sexually-functional beings have to then continue to act like non-sexual beings for a further five or so years is nonsensical.

The preparation to be a sexual being should occur BEFORE they become one, not AFTER. After all, you don`t start teaching someone to drive after they`ve been at the wheel for five years!

"In the UK its 16 but still...I know you do get really grown up 16 year old girls these days, but still, thats all attitude and artiface most of the time. I was a child at 16 emotionally, there was no way I was grown up enough to understand the full implications of having a sexual relationship with someone. I think it should be 18 for definite, I found at 18 my judgement was much better even in that 2 years difference. "

Most people aren`t mentally grown enough to vote for all of their life, yet we let them. Why?

Stop saying sex is a huge deal, it`s not. Driving a car brings more responsibilities.

So are they trying to shop tits onto the girl to make her attractive and make me feel desgusting, or are they shopping the girl onto the tits to make you think that not all developed girls are 18. Either way, this is wierd.

"Stop saying sex is a huge deal, it`s not. Driving a car brings more responsibilities."

So driving a car brings potentially 9 months of medical maladies, a baby, and 18 years of parenting(at least)?

Part of the reason people are so butthurt about sex is because they`re failing to promote safe sexual practices.

Teens need to be educated on safe sex. They need to stop thinking it`s okay to have kids so young, or that motherhood is "easy."

And if an 18-year old has a 16-year old boyfriend or girlfriend, I fail to see why they get statutory. There`s gotta be some by-laws.

My friend actually has a charge against her because she turned 18 two months before her boyfriend, and his parents found out.

I think no matter what point this ad is trying to make it`s failing at it. What I think it`s trying to say is just because they have the body of a grown person doesn`t mean they have the mind of one (but that`s extreme to say that someone with that physical age has a mental age of a seven year-old)

more or less I think it was one of those "let`s just throw a bunch of stuff together and hope it makes since" things.

Why do people get so worried about teenagers having sex. It is legal at 16, and quite a few girls and boys are fine from 15- just make sure they have excellent contraceptive advice and really good access. Talk about sex to kids- start young, long before they are interested, and keep talking!

@madduck - What I`m worried about is that people start talking to children about sex early so they are getting educated only the thing I see is that those kids start younger because they hear of it and it is "forbidden" so let`s do it! And then they start to educate the kids even younger and younger....

"So driving a car brings potentially 9 months of medical maladies, a baby, and 18 years of parenting(at least)?"

Driving (and crashing) a car can bring a LIFETIME of medical maladies, and/or death, for yourself and/or others.

You are correct in that young people need to be taught how to handle sex responsibility...just like they`re taught how to drive.

The difference is; it`s far easier to keep an untrained person out of a car than it is to keep an untrained person from using their genitals; you can`t chop them off and sew them back on later when they`re trained.

If puberty made every teenager grow a set of wheels out of their arms and legs, develop a V8 engine in their chest, and increase their weight to two tons, then you`d be damn sure we as a society would train them to deal with this occurance BEFORE it happened.

The same should be done with sex.

I had sex with a 14 year old.

When I was 15. I do believe there are some states where this would be considered statutory rape. I remember hearing a story on the news a while back about a 14 year old boy getting charged with statutory rape for having sex with his 15 year old girlfriend, because in his state, it was considered rape for a male to have sex with a female who is below the age of consent, regardless of the male`s age. I think it was in CA, but I really can`t be sure.

Yep- it`s CA : "Q: Is it legal for two minors to have sexual intercourse?
A: No. Sexual contact while under the age of 18 is not legal. Depending on the age of the parties involved and whether or not there are repeat violations involved, it would either go to juvenile court or, under certain situations a juvenile court judge may recommend the case be moved to adult court. If the violation is under 261.5, it is a misdemeanor offense."

If someone is not able to understand what they`re doing when they say yes to sexual intercourse, then it is considered statuary rape. In that case, most humans commit statuary rape constantly. Ugh...

If you give sex education to a child and they still consider it "forbidden" afterwards, then you haven`t educated them at all. You`ve just given them access to dogmatism instead of information.

You talk about people becoming sexually active younger and younger because they`re not being kept as ignorant (and fearful) as they used to be, but that is a recent blip. It used to be determined largely by biology rather than an arbritary birthday, so if you were old enough biologically you were old enough legally.

You probably know of Romeo and Juliet. You might not know that in the slang of the time it had Juliet talking about how good sex with Romeo was. You also might not know that Juliet was 13. That was generally considered a bit too young by 1600 in England, but not offensively so. Marriage at 13 would be considered unwise, not g

My point, that I couldn`t fit into the ~970 character limit, is that Victorian morality is not necessarily natural or ideal. I`d far rather have children educated than ignorant and fearful. Educated people strongly tend to make better decisions.

It`s not education that makes people choose to have sex. It`s their sex drive. Powerful and primitive, it`s going to have an effect. You can teach people to control it because it`s better for them to do so or you can rely on keeping them ignorant and fearful of their own desires, but you can`t do both.

I`m going to sound a bit rapey, but I think having a law for age of consenual sex is silly. If a girl has sex with an older man the day before she turns 18 it`s considered rape, but the next day it`s legal. What`s changed?

@ManicRapture We`re talking about rape-in-the-legal-sense not rape in the-break-into-your-house sense.

Secondly, do you have any idea how stupid you sounded there? "Carry a knife"? A knife won`t do a hell of a lot of good when your assailant carries a gun or catches you off guard. Especially so if they`re a foot taller than you and twice as strong, like what happens in a lot of cases.
