One common myth that many people beleive, thanks to Hollywood, is that CPR will restart a heart. The way most people (and animals I suppose) survive cardiac arrest is by defibrillation. Using an AED to administer a shock is the most common way to restart a heart. I don`t think this was a hoax just not sure the dog was in cardiac arrest. That being said, miracles do happen. Regardless, this man is a hero for what he did. Good job!

It is true that people that are in cardiac arrest will not be brought back via cpr. However, animals when they go into acute cardiac arrest it isn`t due to a rhythm malfunction like in people, and cpr can be used to stimulate the heart into beating again. A defib. wouldn`t work because when animals are in arrest there isn`t anything to shock (they are not in v-fib or v-tach like people but actually have asystole.)

tech, what is your medical background? I can say for one that CPR will restart a heart. I`m not saying it works 100% but I`ve been in an situation where I`ve had to do this and I`ve saved someones life. Something I don`t EVER want to have to do again. I do agree that defibs are way more effective, but don`t say that CPR doesn`t work

I have a relative with epilepsy and during a fit they stop breathing and turn purple, but as the Co2 builds they`ll spontaneously restart breathing. This looks really similar....to the vet young pup!

Noted she`s leading the dog with a choker, no wonder the poor thing passed out. A harness works soooooo much better for control of the pet, wither it`s dog, cat, ferret or what ever your pet may be.

I`m almost on the verge of calling staged.

CPR is supposed to massage the heart, in an attempt to keep blood flowing and to possibly kick it back up and running.

@darkhumour, yes that`s it, we all hate our animals. we want them to die, that`s why we get them. stop acting so self-righteous, i have never heard of an animal cpr class before, and i doubt a lot of pet owners know it`s available. asswipe.

A harness works great if you outweigh the animal in question. If you don`t, there is no amount of webbing, recentering of weight or ingenious strap placement that will prevent that animal from dragging you along like a toy. I don`t agree with choke chains for chaining up a pet, but if your pet outweighs you, it`s the only way you`ll control them if they stop listening to you.

    Just something to consider.

Everyone needs to stop attacking the lady who owns the dog. If I was out with my dog and she suddenly just collapsed and stopped breathing, I`d be just as scared.
Dogs are our friends. Really good friends. They don`t talk back or spread rumors about you or any of that crap.

It has nothing to do with the choke chain, the dog had a seizure due to blood sugar levels. Lots of dogs, and cats, have epilepsy, but low or high blood sugar can also cause short seizures that can recur but it`s not real epilepsy. Boxers, staffys and that kind of dog can get very over excited and then collapse, it`s part of their personality. Stop blaming the owners, it`s not their fault.

    Blackcatseye,

It had nothing to do with blood sugar levels. Do you think the dog suddenly manufactured more glucose and miraculously sprung alive? I don`t think so. Having preformed CPR personally many dozens of times, I have NEVER had anyone come back to awareness for at least a few hours. It`s not possible. This is coming from a navy Doc, former Paramedic before school with plenty of experience.

It clearly said She and her dog were at a regular dog training session... I think the trainer would have rushed him to the vet if he didnt think he could handle the situation... and im sure they would have suggested taking him to the vet after the camera got turned off.

I read on the video description that the dog suffered from Cardiomyopathy which would totally explain what happened. *shudders* I can`t imagine how badly I`d bawl if something like that happened to one of my animals.
