A Canadian agreeing with me?!?! HOLY CATS!!!! Maybe it is time to reconsider my postion. ;)

"no amount of American lives can resolve the political disagreement that lies at the heart of someone else`s civil war." -Barak Obama on Iraq

"if we waited one more day, Benghazi... could suffer a massacre that would have reverberated across the region and stained the conscience of the world" - Barak Obama on Libya

@davidildo is correct: this Libya action not only violates everything he campaigned on, everything he promised, the US Constitution; it violates the trust of all those who voted for him.
Thus the MSM spins night and day to put some lipstick on this PIG. (the pig = violation of trust, not Obama himself)

"a spin that is not qite a lie but not quite true"...that is funny cause it is kinda like your post. Not quite a lie, but not quite true....

Actually I think it is a bit more than that. He campaigned and sold himself as one who would never wage a war like this. It is a violation of what he said is a core belief..

"I will only send our troops into harm’s way with a clear mission"

"What I am opposed to is a rash war"

"making absolutely certain that it is because there is an imminent threat, that American interests are going to be protected, that we have a plan to succeed and to exit"

" I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. The world, and the Iraqi people would be better off without him. But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United Stat

>I eagerly await the first "anti-Libya kinetic action peace protest"

Ya missed one in Chicago. We had a couple thousand protesters with a lovely chant that said something like, "give the money to education, stop war and occupation". It was pretty hysterical listening to the chant, where it seemed they picked "education", only because it rhymed with "occupation", and they were protesting everything. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Israel, something about Wisconsin and there were even those lovely rainbow gay flags flying everywhere. People on the streets literally stopped to laugh at them while trying to figure out what they were actually protesting.

This is true, we Canadians are in command! Oh, small detail? That Gereral`s NATO superiour? An American Admiral...
In plain terms: the current NATO commander (a Canuck) takes HIS orders from an American. Just fyi, the US is still `in command`.

@OutWest and @handys003 are fast becomming my BIF! (best internet friends :-) )

I eagerly await the first "anti-Libya kinetic action peace protest" AND @Baalth explaining his post...

LOL... Cats is on a roll. This "Executive Decision" was just what he needed.

It is fun to see how many of us here, wouldn`t cross the aisle for a fact. And we wonder why our political leaders can`t get anything accomplished in a bi-partisan manner.

Keep it coming Cats... love it when Politicians are exposed as marketing managers for their party.

yes under a Canadian Commander. However the bulk of the logistics still is from American firepower with final authority under that fleets commanders decision making. As it is with England`s and Frances fleet commanders decision as well. Plus a huge chunk of change out of US taxpayers dollars. BTW which we really don`t have to spend. Perchance since you got a sh*t load of oil. Why don`t Canada just fund this whole show yourselves this time around. Tell you what I`ll find a Canadian around here and buy them a drink for thanks. That should cover it.

@madest you clearly know nothing on this subject:
A Presidential Mandate must be re-signed by each new president to continue. Bush signed a PM, it was not a law passed by the houses. They COULD overturn it, with 2/3 vote I think, but they didn`t.
All Obama had to do was NOT sign that bill and *poof* it`s gone! Of course the next Pres could re-sign it and *poof* it`s back!
If you make me go dig up the article (which is several years old now) I shall expect the prize @SmilinSam just won, only with YOU and YOU`RE paying for it!

Self-justification: the victory of fools...

vv I agree with you @SmilinSam:
Big Government = clusterf*ck
And there`s nearly zilch any single human being can do about it, even if he/she is POTUS!

BUT in this one case: Obama is 100% personally responsible. HE gave the order, HE didn`t ask Congress, HE made NCAA picks rather than explain himself to the American People.

Normally I`d agree that the POTUS is mostly a figurehead, but there are some things the Prez can do, or chose to not do, which could make a difference in `the way things are`.

When Bush signed the Big Government Bailout, he could have chosen to "veto" it, but he didn`t. I called him a knucklehead for his cowardice! (and several other words that rhyme with `drat`)

Cat5, President Obama did not "re-sign" Bush`s ban on stem cell research. You stated he did as if it were fact. The fact is, Obama issued an executive order expanding stem cell research and subsequently, federal judge Royce C. Lamberth issued a temporary injunction stopping it.
The personal insult was justified because you act like an expert on American politics which is absurd on it`s face because you`re not from here and don`t understand American politics. Besides that it`s fun.

@madest is it ever possible you might, just one time, disagree with me without adding a personal insult? It belittles both you and your arguement, eh?
(NOTE: in before @madest cries: "you just insulted ME!!!!@!!" No I did not. I pointed out the effect his insult has on whomever reads it, not anything personal about him, m-kay?)

Meanwhile reality remains: 4 days after his famous "signing a bill that supports stemcell research" he re-signed the exact same bill Bush signed which the MSM raged over: that which refused Fed funding for many forms of SSR.
Perhaps the `judge` you mentioned was refering to THAT BILL which OBAMA HIMSELF re-signed, eh? Ever think of that @madest?

But you won’t. Because you like complaining. And because it’s impossible. We can’t get over our stupid idealistic divides to see the big picture. Neither can the politicians. AND They’ve got their heads stuck so far up the lobbyists asses that they probably will never see the light again. We need fresh blood in government. We need new ideas and less divide. We need to abolish the two party system. We need a lot of things but we aren’t going to get them. Not as long as those who are in power remain in power. Obama is one cog in a big wheel in a big machine that’s running our nation into the ground. Granted he is the most visible figure, required to make speeches and promises, but he’s nothing but the mask on the beast. I wish more people would start to talk about the rest of the government too… but they won’t. because it’s easy to point fingers, but not so easy to suggest solutions.

I knew this was submitted by 5cats before I even opened the comments. what do i win!? and on an unrelated note... the whole government is one big f*ckaroo why do we consistently blame one person for the actions of many? oh yeah, because it is easiest. it is simple to have one scapegoat and into it place all your hopes/fears/aggression, than to hold accountable the hundreds of congressmen and senators and state representatives that consistently make terrible laws and pass bills that give money to big businesses and bottleneck the CHANGE that everyone who actually VOTED for Obama HOPED for. But let’s not bring them into the limelight. Let’s just let them continue to do what they’ve always done. Get reelected year after year and continue to propagate the f*ckery that is our national government.I’m not sayin he’s perfect, I’m not sayin he hasn’t broken some promises. I am however, sayin that I would love to see any one of you do any better.

"Republicans held it up..."
@Baalth, you`ve REALY lost your mind this time!
#1 The DEMS had buster-proof majorities in BOTH houses in Jan 2009, exactly HOW did Reps "hold up" anything? How did THEY move any bill when ALL bills were controled by Pelosi & Reid?
#2 You mention Obama`s 2009 bill, but link an article from June 2010. Since he PROMISED to close Gitmo in ONE YEAR how is that even remotely related?
#3 Your SECOND LINK is from Dec 2010, where the Dems are "lame ducks" and yes the Reps have some say in what goes where. AGAIN I ask you: how does something 23 MONTHS after his promise of 12 MONTHS change the fact that he "hope & changed" his mind?
Baalth: BLAME THE REPUBLICANS! (repeat ad nausium)

i love how this reporter is completely non-biased and objective, like all reporters should be. It`s good to see he`s not, you know, saying that basically the US controls NATO because that would be completely un-true. It would be a falsehood, a non-truth, being reported as a fact, which is completely not what has happened here at all.

I don`t see what is so hard to figure out. We shut down the air-force and air defenses so we can fly missions with impunity. Then we focused on command and control so Qaddafi won`t be able to effectively use his army. Then we started on interdiction and close support on those armies to soften them up for the rebels so they can move on to Tripoli. THEY ARE OUR ARMY ON THE GROUND. This is right from Warden`s playbook. Of course, they haven`t said this, but it is the direction they are moving in given that they`ve already moved in A-10s and AC-130s.

@Baalthazaq, Guantanamo is just a symbol and a campaign promise. Indefinite detention is why Guantanamo is a symbol, and Obama has stated that he plans to indefinitely detain people even after Guantanamo is closed. Broken promise vs violating the Constitution.

Incidentally, taking a random example:
Guantanamo.

President: Executive Order to close Guantanamo in Jan 2009. One of the first things he did. Republicans: Held it up, but before that they pushed it into the spending bill the Dems wanted to pass before reps came into power in the house because they knew they`d get away with it.

"Don`t forget keeping Guantanamo open". Oh I won`t, however, do pay attention to why that is. It`s not Obama.

Really a lame approach to critisism. As mentioned by Woodward that we`re not privy to all the info. I`m not a huge Obama fan, but certainly can`t see the bs coming out of Gindrich as better. Obama got stuck with the neocon`s wars and reality has proved exits to be difficult. I believe that military use is a waste of money and the MAIN reason that bucks are in short, concentrated supply. That said, Ghaddafi is a tyrant, has attacked the US several times (Lockerbie, German nightclub) and if, by protecting civilians in that country is a convenient way of ridding the world of him, so be it.

Refused to pursue war crimes of the previous administration, dropped the public option, left medical insurance monopoly in place, indefinite detention, expanded the war in Afghanistan, renewed Bush tax cuts, and now he illegally starts a 3rd war when our country is in dire economic straights. I dread having to choose between this idiot and the nut job the Tea Party puts up in 2012.
