@meneado Are you really saying "we" I know anon say it a lot and I know the rules. But still what this guy did was one of the very few things that anon does well, just beacuse you lurk 4chan looking for a couple of laughs thinking your an oldfag, doesn`t mean you know anything.
What anonymous could be is a huge interconnected system of people who actually put right where big corporate companys and governments do wrong, Sort of a modern day Robin Hood.
But sadly this is not the case and rather they`re majority useless people with minimal technological knowledge trying to pretend there in an exclusive group who are mean and evil and should be feared.
Sometimes you just have to look at what these people are trying to accomplish and commend them for that instead of disregarding every serious thread you come by to start some pooty raid on a 14 year old girl.

So 3 years ago someone deliberately infringed copyright and the copyright holder was pretty much required to defend it or lose it. Some people printed inaccurate stories about it and someone claimed to be Anonymous starting a campaign about it.

Not exactly interesting topical stuff, is it?

Anyway...why do people pay 50 for a handbag and 500 for the "privilege" of being a walking advert for a company?

    >>Louis Vuitton Tried to Prevent the Nadia Plesner Lawsuit

Umm, how? By taking her to court? I read that article, in spite of the headline it clearly states Louis Vuitton got an injunction and "...Louis Vuitton took further action and asked for 5,000 euros for each day she continued to sell the product (just under $7,700; some erroneous reports say $20,000 a day). "If companies don’t take action to protect trademarks, it’s harder to do so in the future," the spokeswoman said."

So exactly how are these liars trying to "stop" anything? As far as "protecting trademarks", Plesner isn`t selling handbags - she has what amounts to a political cartoon.

Andy Warhol wasn`t saying that Campbell`s soup is a hardy, stick to your ribs dinner, so go out and buy some. He was commenting on consumer culture, branding, and artificiality. He got rich off it and Campbell`s never sued him. Where is western culture heading? No place good.

It doesn`t matter if the bag "looked" like a Louis Vitton! It doesn`t have their actual logo on it. There are plenty of knock offs that "look"like vitton and aren`t. This is all the more reason why I hate overprices corporate douchebag merchandise.

Nah, this isn`t crime. It`s a call to action, albeit in a small way. Take a look at Libya, Tunisia, Egypt. Those protestors aren`t criminals either, they`re just regular dudes entirely devoid of any repository for taking any more sh*t. Who are currently being bombed by jet-fighters as we speak.

I`m starting to like 4Chan. Not the site, it sucks hairy donkey balls. But the attitude. It`s dark, and it`s dangerous. In a healthy way. Like sex. And let`s face it, we all like sex.

So their plan is to buy fake handbags (that look like the real thing in a lot of cases) and give them to people that have no need for them, thereby increasing (fake) Luis Vuitton handbag representation and in doing so make Replica-making Handbag Guy rich?

    THE FACTS:

May 6, 2008 New York Magazine reported LV attempted to stop the case from going to court, but that they were forced to take legal action when Plesner did not respond to their original request to remove the contested image, nor to the subsequent Cease and Desist order

Plesner was attempting to conceal the lengths that LV went to in order to prevent the lawsuit because she wanted to make LV look bad to gain free PR for her shirts.

In October 2008, Louis Vuitton dropped its lawsuit to show Plesner they would be glad to meet her halfway and forgive the past.

Plesner then went ahead and painted the picture, causing LV to reopened the lawsuit.

    Wait a minute...
She is criticizing materialism in popular culture by designing potentially pop culture, materialistic wears?

    Ironic much?

That`s about as moronic as a "pro life" activist killing abortion doctors.

Don`t get me wrong, I`m all for freedom of speech, and I do think that the people at LV are just being jerks. But I think she could have found a better way to prove her point.

I think it`s worth pointing out that the actual sum Louis Vitton are asking for (according to the formal submission to the court) is 1 Euro.

She is blatantly and deliberately infringing copyright in merchandise that she`s selling. Maybe the profits from the T-shirts go to charity. Can you prove that? What about the profits from her paintings?

You can`t reasonably expect a business to give up the copyright(*) on a profitable product just because an artist orders them to so that she can use it to sell stuff and conduct a campaign against them.

    * If you don`t defend copyright every time, especially in such an obvious case of a copyrighted designed being used against the copyright holder, you`ll have a hard time ever enforcing it.

She hasn`t "kinda copied the look of handbag". It`s far closer than that.

Do you have any examples from "wal-mart and every other 2bit store" of copies as close as this?

Also, Walmart et alia aren`t using it to depict LV in a bad way. Cheap knock-offs from bottom-end shops would have far less effect on LV than bad publicity.

Has no body ever heard of "Fair Use"?

Also, if I take a picture of someone holding a Louis Vuitton, is that copyright infringement? Of course not, say a drawing is, is retarded.

Only if she made a frigging handbag, would they have a case.

LV may have over-reacted, but is it fair to put all the people they employ in jeopardy of losing their jobs? Think, man, THINK!

@patticakes: its the company`s duty to protect its employees, not the consumer public. after BP drated up in the gulf of mexico did you rush out to buy gas at the local BP gas station so you could save the jobs of the BP employees and the gas station attendants?

when a company drats up (in any way) they have to expect consequences. sometimes thats a product boycott, sometimes it goes further. don`t like it? dont help. im sure they don`t need your help.

Hoo boy, LV better watch their backs. If this is plastered (as I assume it has been) on multiple social aggregate sites then this could get ugly for the company. Anonymous (I hope this is them and not a copycat group) can be pretty deadly. I hope this works, Louis Viutton is a pretty awful company.

The sad thing is that the way Copyright laws are written, if LV does not go after little people like this, they can be seen as abandoning their copyright over their logo, just as Bayer lost the ownership of the word "Aspirin" years ago. Then, big companies like Walmart would be able to make millions selling knock off LV bags and LV wouldn`t be able to do anything about it.

What they should do, if they are smart, is to license the images to this woman for $1, or even license it for what they would charge a larger company, and then donate those proceeds to Darfur. Then, their copyright is safe, but they don`t appear to be uncaring to the poor.
