"USGS scientists are saying the Japanese coastline has moved 8 feet and they estimate the earth`s axis tilt has moved 4 inches. "

That means the days are some seconds shorter now right

My spouse came back from the Four Seasons Hualalai in Kona they had a nice 5 foot Tsunami and it basically flooded out the rooms and washed out everything into the ocean. The tourists are now being moved out and the Japanese want to go home today. However that went down the drain. All the flights to Japan from Honolulu were canceled for the next 48 hours.

FYI my friends at the Pacific Tsunami warning center told me that almost every island in the Pacific rim were experiencing some seismic activity. They believe the crust had an uplift in the region. Needless the say all the islands (not just Hawaii) were on edge from the tsunami. As this was the second major one in the past year. They also think this activity is not over by a long shot yet.

I`m gonna go ahead and claim the "been here longest" title.

Instead of donating money, Musuko is gonna send over a shipment of Haterade.

Sure, and I could post the "Extreme Jenga twin towers" pic several hours after the attacks on 9-11. Look, this is a public forum - you`re free to post whatever you find funny, just as I`m free to call you a dick if I find it a bit sick.

Japan had a small radiation leak from the nuclear power plant.

Radiation Leak

And I just heard on the news they have to release radioactive vapor because the core is not cooling.

Just what Japan needs.... more radiation.

Japan has a lot of pride and unity as a country. I`m confident they`ll be able to overcome this.

Oystah -
"did they take the warning off California"
No. Tsunami is hitting mid California now {8:35 a.m. pacific} and is expected here in San Diego in about 45 minutes.

but we`re only talking 3 foot waves. Though Crescent City got 8 foot swell. Mostly it`s just a little damage to small boats at dock.

I haven`t heard of any damage in Hawai`i so I think it`s just the media hyping it up bigger than it is.

Musuko42 -
"Worrying about the death and devastation isn`t going to make it go away now is it?

Worrying about something you can do nothing to change is useless and mentally damaging."
And you think bitching about people who have nothing but good wishes for victims of disaster is a productive thing to do?

Davymid, The best possible perspective is to stay positive in times of despair. Bringing humor into chaotic destruction simply lightens the mood by putting, even if for a brief second, a smile on peoples faces. I`ve been lurking iab for a long time, if I wanted to "stick to 4chan" I would. I went through and checked and I`ve been on this site longer than all but 2 of the people who posted on this thread(and they only had me beat by a month or so) So lastly, I didn`t call you any names so I`m not sure why you felt the need to toughen up and call me names over the internet. People laughed at it, shouldn`t you call them names as well?

So did they take the warning off California? Jeez, this morning the news made it sound like Hawaii was going to be wiped out and then CA was next. Stupid frantic news.

"Praying is great, it allows people to do absolutely nothing and still feel like they`ve contributed!"

Exactly my point.

And then when they publicly state that they`re praying, what they`re really saying is "look at me, look how great I am for caring...you know, in a way that costs me nothing and doesn`t do anything kind of way."

If you`re feeling bad for what`s happening, then find a dollar or two and donate it. You`ll relieve your bad feeling (which is why you "pray" in the first place..it`s all about you), but you`ll be doing some actual useful good in the mix.

But DON`T use it as an excuse to waggle your "sincerity" around by showing off how you closed your eyes and mumbled a few wishes to the empty air. If you must do it, keep it to yourself.

Because I`m pretty sure the Bible mentions something about showing off (the widow`s mite).

@Francakes- No, you don`t have to stop praying. It`s certainly not hurting anything. But musuku42 has a point- if you can afford to provide material assistance, you should. No matter how wealthy a country is, none are fully prepared to respond to a disaster of this magnitude without assistance from the Global community. There are numerous non-profit relief organizations who will be assisting people affected by this disaster for months and years to come- any one of them can use as much financial assistance as they can get.

I was up at 11 last night and watched it happen live on tv. Watched water rolling over their farmlands and city scapes. All the cars driving away and people running as if someone had yelled "GODZIRRA!"

Seriously though, this is gonna hurt their movie industry. Probably delay those quality family films we`ve enjoyed here at IAB

You don`t have to STOP praying. Musuko42 is a jerk.

And what makes you think Japan wants our handout anyway? This isn`t Nikki Manaj giving money to the babies in Hattie.

Here is what I have gathered so far,
1) There are at least 60 people dead (unfortunately probably a lot more)
2) This is the 7th most powerful earthquake in recorded history
3)and this could be the most devastating earthquake in recorded history (it is the highest on the Richter scale in an area this populated)
4) If you must reach loved ones and friends, e-mail them or skype them but try to keep off the phone/ save it for emergency use
5)It hit North East Japan, Tokyo has been affected but no serious damage
6) Hawaii has not been hit yet but they might be affected by a Tsunami so the coast is being evacuated currently

Thanks, because what we need now is a flame war from insensitive people such as yourself. If I had money I`d donate it, but since I don`t have money and I live in the US, all I can do is pray. non-nice individual

"I`m praying for those affected"

Because it is, quite literally, the very least you can do.

Stop praying, all of you, and actually do something USEFUL. You know, like make a donation towards aid.

Japan is saying it was a 7.9 earthquake, not 8.9, but still, they are being inundated by a massive Tsunami. I`m praying for those affected by this.
