Keep it maintained and move the fish to a bigger tank when they grow bigger. Otherwise no problem. No filtration system means 100% water changes every week but we`re only talking about 10ml so no problem. Same as a bowl. Not ideal but it can be made to work.

The biggest problem might be the danger of knocking it over. Not an issue with a regular aquarium unless you are a weight lifting idiot in an Internet meme.

    Or is this cruel?
I don`t think it is, but I`m not a fish expert.

I thought it was cute. :D I want an aquarium... only reason I don`t have one is because I think those bubble-makers make too much noise.

I vote semi-cruel. Those look to be baby fish that will grow rapidly, and the `tank` is overcrowded as it is. Not my cup of tea.

don`t understand how this could be considered "cruel". They have about the same size relative to the tank as a lot of larger fish do in normal aquariums. they even have a filter working. not really cute either, but interesting.

Who cries for his mommy. Don`t forget that part!

Not cruel as long as the water is kept aerated, and the fish are small like that. You obviously couldn`t let them grow up in it, but for a day or two, it`s no big deal.

Cruel, without the shadow of a doubt. Without a filter, all bowls are forcing fish to live in septic tanks of their own filth. Also, you need a gallon per inch of fish at the very least (though that actually only applies to larger tanks and you need even more than that for smaller ones under 15 gallons). I suppose they`ll discover what a horrid idea it is when the fish die. The ammonia levels and nitrates are going to be on a major seesaw when the space is so tiny, and even the hardiest fish can`t handle that for very long. I hope this was only for the video and then they stuck the fish somewhere kinder.

Fish are not as stupid as we think they are. They can be trained to do tricks and most recognize their owner after about a month. The 3 second memory thing is just baloney. My own tetras know when I`m about to feed them vs. when I`m just walking by.

Sorry this sounds ranty, but I hate it when people treat non-mammal pets wrong just because they don`t care about them a

@Seastone I agree 100%. However I did post earlier that it could work if you did 100% water changes like you would for a bowl. Not ideal but workable. I have been keeping goldfish for a few years and they are way smarter than people realise. They even have different personalities.

I started with a bowl but as the first goldfish grew I improved his home and now I have a large aquarium with all the mod cons a cold water fish might want. Also he has a room mate now.

It is somewhat cruel, but it`s a cool concept. However, for some reason I have a feeling that they didn`t leave it set up, thus I don`t really have any qualms with it. It`s so small that they probably clean it all the time, plus they at least gave them some oxygen.

the bubble thing is a filter? Or maybe he used those filter rocks that the video shows him putting in? Maybe he cleans the water every now and then. maybe zebrafish don`t make as much waste as bigger fish. maybe there is no filter and those are regular rocks and he doesn`t clean the cage, and the fish do make the water dirty. we don`t know.

The bubble thing just speeds the additon of o2 to the water. In this case it is only for show. I`m guessing the guy just blew into the tube off camera to produce a stream of bubbles.

The rocks would not act as a filter. You need to pump the water through a series of sponges in which bacteria live which eat and alter the fish waste into something harmless.

Otherwise just keep putting fresh water in as it gets dirty. That`s stressful for the fish until they get used to it.

"that music sounds so familiar. was that used in edward scissorhands? i can`t place it."

It`s "Aquarium" from "The Carnival of the Animals" by Camille Saint-Saëns.

It`s been in a couple Simpsons episodes, as well as Fantasia. It also heavily influenced the Disney`s Beauty and the Beast main theme.

Not really cruel, proportionally it`s a way bigger aquarium than the "tanks" that Siamese fighting fish are kept in, and the display cages that puppies practically live in in pet stores.

Just for the record in case it`s not been mentioned, these are newborn baby fish. Each one will grow bigger than the tank itself so this is no doubt a stunt just to demonstrate that it can be done.
