"Also, when someone sends me a text, I will not text them back. I CALL them."

I routinely ignore phone calls from my friends and family.
Telephony is the most presumptuous form of communication, a person making a call must assume that the receiver of the call is both able and willing to either stop what they`re doing entirely or suffer the distraction of talking and probably using one of their hands for the sole purpose of holding a phone.

I hope I`m never so intrusive as that.

Whats wrong with Facebook? Sure, if you use it too much it`s a bad thing, but everything works the same way. Thanks to Facebook, I have reconnected with my best friend from preschool and just recently my birthmother who I lost contact with when I was 3 years old. We just need to learn not to abuse the networking system

I logged onto a site today to see how to say some simple phrases in Russian for a play I`m in.

One of the phrases listed was "Are you on Facebook?"

...still not going to do it.
Also, when someone sends me a text, I will not text them back. I CALL them. Sometimes they seem annoyed that they actually have to TALK to somebody. I love it!

@EntrE
you probably didn`t have too many friends that wanted to go out and do stuff with you before facebook was popular, and if your friends would rather stay inside and stare at status updates than go out with you then you must not be doing anything very interesting. truth is, i organze events through facebook, then when the party is done, post pictures of the events on facebook to let people remember the awesome time we had. it`s not replacing social life, it may be replacing the telephone/email as an organizational tool though.

I have an account, but I only check in like once a week to accept requests or if I need to talk to someone

Never become one of the people who wakes up and checks it though, having a life on facebook ≠ having a life

Facebook`s security is fully customizable and can be made very private if the user so wishes. And even with low security settings, the only way bad people are going to use your Facebook is if you go posting nude photos of yourself along with your name on 4chan.

As a university student, Facebook is a fantastic social tool. It`s not a substitution for a real social life - just a tool to facilitate it. Half the parties I go to I find out about because I get invited to them on Facebook. I have one friend who doesn`t have it, and he always misses out on things. It`s also a great way to keep in touch with old high school friends that I would have never talked to again otherwise.

But yeah, those numbers are astounding, I didn`t know it was technologically possible to have servers capable of handling that much traffic. Way to go.

facebook is a really good way to be in touch with friends in situations where you wouldnt be able to otherwise, but it shouldnt replace talking to people in person. you just need to find a good balance.

In defense of facebook, it is a great way to connect with people and news all over the world. It has it`s problems, and it has hinder real life interaction but so does texting, instant messengers, and the sort. Don`t hate the player (facebook) hate the game (the internet/technology).

i hate facebook. it has ruined social life! almost everyone has lost every motivation to have a real life and go out and do stuff. instead they stay online until the middle of the night and do nothing but stare on their screen. and i can`t find people for some amazing things i had planed in my mind cuz they are all too busy reading status updates. WTF?!
