I don`t even bother anymore. I look up anything people want to know now because I cannot stand how people use the internet and I am afraid that people will find out about the creepy porn I have on my computer.

How the hell did we all operate before the scroll wheel? How did we all not go mad?

I remember the first time my dad tried to use a computer. He called me up and said he was trying to open his email but it wasn`t working.

I told him to double-click the "Outlook" icon on the desktop, to which he replied he had and that a box kept showing up.

I had no idea what he was doing wrong until I got home...He was using the right mouse button.

More importantly, they typed Google into Google. And we all know what happens if you do that.

Yay! The typing urls into the search bar thing is something I thought only my Aunt did!! I`m glad to not be the only one perturbed by such things!

quotes make ones searches more reliable so if you were to type in helping uncle jack off a horse

without quotes it would search for anything that had either the word uncle, jack, off, a or horse in the web page

but if there isnt any result with uncle jack off a horse it will display less relevant pages that would eventually water down to have only the words "uncle jack" or "helping or even "jack off a horse"

so when searching common terms "" aren`t necessary but when searching for pages with exactly what you type in it you need quotes vague song lyrics would be a great example for it will search the EXACT phrase you type and nothing else

Agreed. I never use quotes and I always get what I want. I don`t know wtf people are talking about.

What`s the big deal with quotes? I never use quotes and I always find what I`m looking for just fine...

LOL, I`m the same way. KILLS me when people don`t use quotes around a search phrase! Even worse - I`ve seen it on TV shows and news programs, they do a close-up of the screen, somebody searches, no quotes around the goddamn phrase. ARRGH! Passing the stupidity on to the mass market.

KPres, that reminds me of a few years back when my boss was having trouble finding files. That was because 3 people were using that computer and each of them was saving everything in the root of the partition labelled "management". Most of the documents were saved with the first couple of words as the filename (Word default). There were a couple of thousand files in there. Total mess. It was a wonder anyone found anything.

I often scroll without the scroll wheel. I have things set up so I can scroll further and faster with a small amount of mouse movement. It`s smoother, too.

"waah waah my mum plays games wrong"
The closest my mum came to playing videogames was when I had a dream that she completed Bug`s Life on the GBC for me.

This is nothing. My mother has been using computers regularly since 1985 or so but she still doesn`t understand how a task bar works, or when to double click instead of single click. Often she`ll save the same file 10 times to the desktop.

@Davymid

Alt+D - Automatically moves the cursor into the address field and highlights the entire field. My second most useful shortcut I ever learned to go with the Ctrl+Enter. :)

I was in my school`s library sitting next to another student who was on the phone to one of his parents. He was talking to them very calmly asking them to email him some work that he`d left at home on his computer. As I said he sounded calm but he was clearly getting agitated. I was trying to look like I wasn`t listening but I nearly lost it when after he`d asked them to copy and paste it and to "right click" he suddenly shouted, "NO, DON`T WRITE THE WORD CLICK"

Exactly the way I feel. There`s a 19 year old kid I know that always goes to websites by doing the whole, www.________.com into the google search bar and then clicks on the link. Drives me crazy.

Ctrl+Enter in the address bar puts "http://www." before and ".com" after whatever you type: most useful shortcut I ever learned.

That looks just like my nana. She just bought herself a nice new iPhone 4. She wants me to help her set it up. I ask if she wants me to transfer her audiobooks to the phone and she says no, she wants me to put them all on her ancient ipod video. Now she carries both around with her and looks ridiculous.

My business partner has been working with computers for 6 years and still doesn`t understand how the files system works...C drive, desktop, My Documents folder...none of it means anything to him. He saves everything in his "My Photos" folder because it`s the first thing that shows up on his "Save As.." dialog box.

My hubby doesn`t understand the differance between a Search Text Area and an Address Bar.
