@kribble again, I have a great appreciation for tolerance and pacifism, my point was not that violence was the answer, but I would much rather deal with the likes of you in a conflict than someone who thinks its ok to take what they want from those that are weaker than they, or rape rabid dragonbears just cause it makes their willies tingle. So if you are ever in a confrontation with a miscreant like this, and its you or them, please, for me, just this once, use as much violence as necessary.

I don`t see the cuteness. I don`t care. Looks like two colored marshmallows intimidating each other.

If I cared about Tae-kwon-do, I`d probably be offended, but I don`t.

@chimmey: though i see the point in the argument you`re making, i can`t stop thinking of how awesome a dragonbear that farts mustard gas might look like.
and i do see the point in self defence, but not to the point in killing the assailant

and maybe "hardcore" was a bit of an overreaction on my part, since the most hardcore pacifist i know of don`t eat mushrooms, since he sees them as living beings.

@kribble as a hardcore pacifist,you will get eaten first.You cannot talk a nail into holding two boards together,and you cannot reason with a rabid dragonbear.I admire your beliefs,as i am a pacifist myself.For the most I avoid extremism of any kind as it limits your ability to see value in ideas you do not embrace.For instance, say you ran a day care, and a rabid dragonbear wandered in the playground...tearing children limb from limb,burning their bodies and farting something like a combination of nausea gas and pepper spray.The Dragonbear will not stop maiming the children until it is dead, its not being malicious,its not enjoying this slaughter,its just reacting to the intense pain of its brain swelling beyond its skulls capacity.As a pacifist i don`t want to commit a violent act,but as a rational human being,I know 2 things...the dragonbear is going to die no matter what happens(rabies)and every second i deal with my moral dilemma another child dies...what would you do?

@Kribbe

As Agent00Smith said, It is about discipline and technique. But it also teaches self-confidence, helps with self-esteem, competition and a number of other things.

Fighting competitions introduce this, and also most importantly it teaches you respect for yourself and others.

I have made good friends in my competition days even against opponents. I know one guy who at the time we suspected was gay and with training, fights, support we had given him - he had accepted a newfound confidence in his sexuality.

Besides, Taekwondo is not a very good sport to learn how to fight - but it teaches good core values.

Its about discipline and technique. Hardly about fighting at all. I used to take Tae-Kwon-Do classes. Wish I could still go.

@zombunny: i fail to see the point in teaching 5 yr olds to "defend themselves", if they need to protect themselves from whatever danger might be in japan then their parents must really suck at their job as parents

besides all you need to do is pick them up and carry them under your shoulder, they don`t have that much muscles to throw a punch that would cripple their opponent

@kribbe, you do realize that martial arts is mostly used for self defense, right?

I don`t think this is taekwondo so much as it is tiny children flailing at each other, but it`s very cute.

"as a hardcore pacifist i`m quite mad at the fact that they are teaching young kids, that can barely walk straight because of their age, to fight.

and i think it`s Japanese, since the middle song was an intro song to a very good anime."

Martial arts are less violence and more a reaction to violence. Most martial arts are supposed to prevent violence.

@RobSwindol

He is one of the points guy, usually they have three of them around the ring. Everytime they hear and good connecting kick/punch to the body he marks either the red or blue for a point. Two/three people who mark a person for a point recieves one on the total score
