and then I was like, " Damn, it`s not that hard that it requires that much concentration."

yoda141 is right... modern art is just another scam artist. come up with a stupid idea no one else has done and some pretentios, rich idiot will buy it.

That1Guy124 - even DeVinci and Michelangelo had assistants. They do as their told and the "vision" is the artists, not the apprentice`s.

Looks really cool, but its not a painting, and its not art...its a technique to make things that look cool. The only real input the "artist" has is the shape of the canvas and the palate they select. I think Jackson Pollock really confused a lot of people with his work. Many say it is not art, and even though there is a definite randomness factor to his work, it is shaped by his movements, not pouring paint onto a flat surface.

You could have been if you thought of it first.
If you do it now you would only copy something that`s already been done and you wouldn`t be inventive. original and creative.

If you improve on the original (i.e. dump truckloads of paint on a skyscraper or let it be dumped on you while you walked around on a canvas(to reflect the colorfulness of humankind and the chaos this beauty can bring) you could be.

It`s often not the act itself that is the art it`s the process that leads up to the moment of creation and the end result. Although this can be debated by saying the end result doesn`t mean anything because it`s the act itself that is the art.

As someone in Art School, this is not what you will learn.
This is a painting, but by itself would be nothing. They filmed it for a reason people. ITS ABOUT SEEING THE PAINT DRIP THAT MAKES IT INTERESTING, not just the finished product of layered colors that matter.
Apart from that, this is highly experimental. As Zombunny put it, different people interpret this different ways. Is this the chaos humanity brings? Evolution? Change in general? Perhaps just a psychedelic video to evoke some emotion. Whichever, never take ANY art for granted.

Also, Saying skills are not required for this is an understatement. Someone had to construct the canvas for the paint to be poured onto, measure the amount of paint, and most importantly conceive the idea in the first place. I know we all like to act like we can do something like this on the internet, but this is actually a pretty well thought out experiment.

Darkhumour, by Leonardo I`m guessing you`re talking about DaVinci and not the ninja turtle and I`m baffled by your inclusion of Machiavelli who was a writer not an artist (at least in the medium of art being discussed here.) While I myself find alot of modern art somewhat overblown and pretentious, It is not for me to invalidate its worth as an art form. I find your statement of "a bunch of faggots pouring paint on a square" ignorant and childish. It shows your lack of understanding, insight and creativity. Art as it has been pointed out is about creation and expression. Even if you do not find a specific work of art to be personally inspiring, that doesn`t mean it isn`t important in the thought process of someone else. Another person may view this and take something away from the experience that inspires them to go and create something wonderful in a way that you cannot even comprehend.

I always hate the argument "If I could find it in my basement or do it myself it`s not art." The thing is, you didn`t. You didn`t think to do that. You aren`t even trying to understand what the artist is trying to say. Go read a book.

"You aren`t even trying to understand what the artist is trying to say. "

This work says nothing. Art is communication, and if the "message" is nonexistent, or fails to reach the audience, the work is not art.

"You could have been if you thought of it first.
If you do it now you would only copy something that`s already been done and you wouldn`t be inventive. original and creative.`

This work is not original - there are many techniques that rely on pouring one paint into another. Nature has been doing this for millenia.

"Saying skills are not required for this is an understatement. "

You are confusing craft with talent. Anyone could produce this work.

"Art as it has been pointed out is about creation and expression."

That would include explosive diarrhea as art. Art is purposeful communication.

I think the flow of the paint over a structure is fantastic, mostly because it allows us to see how this substance would naturally behave. That being said, I think this method and this concept have a lot more potential than we`re seeing here -- especially if it`s combined with someone who actually has technical skill.

So what if it is? That still makes it art. It doesn`t look like you know what art is.

Umm art doesnt need to say something. someone could paint a landscape just because. you dont need a hidden obfuscated meaning bercause then you overlook that most artists make their art simply because they like doing so.

Back in the day, my art teacher explained the purpose of art thusly:

"Art must fulfill one or both of the following criteria to be seen as such:

1: it must be interesting. It should capture the observer`s interest in some way.

2: it must make the observer `feel` something. It must evoke some kind of thought, emotion or reaction."

Therefore, by this definition, the power of "art" is in the hands of the observer, not the artist. Even if the observer`s reaction is no more than, "wow, that looks cool," or "That`s disgusting," the piece can be called "art."

This piece captured the interest, even if for only a split second, of every commenter. It made each feel something, even if the feeling was only, "This ain`t art!"

I don`t know you, but I love you too, dear.

    @Heureux,
How incredibly arrogant to decide that the work says nothing. It says nothing to you, but it may mean something to someone else. I love art. I don`t love all of it. Some of it speaks to me, some of it doesn`t. Some of it moves me, some of it just looks cool. But I would never say that it isn`t art just because I personally don`t respond to it.
