- a hunting party will always go with guns in case things go wrong.
- these guys don`t look like they killed it by chance, they were looking to kill something
- bear v fully loaded hunting party looking for an impressive kill = no chance

there is no need to kill that bear - dont give me that crap that its ok if you eat it - they are not starving and living in the middle ages. They are clearly doing it for the THRILL of it which is wrong if you ask me. And arent bears a protected species?. I for one dont like seeing species going extinct at the hand of man. Get your thrills elsewhere dudes.

If you slay a bear and take it`s meat and skin and make use of it, that`s proper good. Otherwise I`ve got no time for you

not shown: back up guns in case their stupid plan backfires
no sport was involved in this picture, sport would include giving the bear a chance.

Totally shopped.

For the anti-hunting crowd...he took down a black bear with a recurved bow. I`d say that`s pretty damn sporting.

"What`s the point of killing a bear? I`m not a total PETA freak and what not, but what`s the point of going out of your way to kill something?"

There are many reasons to kill a bear

"hmmm I wonder what bear taste like"

It can taste good, but really depends on the diet of the bear

lemme burst your bubbles.. the bear is too far away.. the flash from the light would have startled the bear and the picture taker would have seen the bear and alerted his buddies. now it can go two ways from here..
the bear panics and runs away as these fellas panic to grab their weaponry or the bear panics and decides to attack one of them while the other two manage to get a weapon and harm/scare him by the time the bear has done minimal damage to whoever it attacked in a panic.. although it is possible it gets a good shot in and just clean digs his claw very deep but

If they eat it, then they have my respect.

If they used that bow and arrow, rather than a gun, then they also have my respect.

As much as I`m not a fan of killing animals when it`s not necessary for survival, if it`s going to happen I`d much prefer it happening via hunting in the wild, where the animal has a chance to escape and "win" the encounter, as apposed to cattle farming, where the animal is enslaved and always loses.

I don`t eat meat but i don`t have a promblem with people hunting unless they don`t eat it, and there are more eco friendly as they don`t have there meat flown in from somewhere else.I just don`t like poo hunters and killing the animals just for the fun of it. like fox hunting

i never knew a hunter that did not eat what they killed. I myself have eaten deer, squirrel, rabbit, pheasant, and duck. I never had bear but I am told it is very good in stews. I have also found that hunters are perhaps the most environmentally contientious people out there.

i have no idea if i spelled that right.

People can and do eat bear meat. If all hunters only killed to eat and ate what they killed I would have no issue with it at all. Unfortunately many hunt for fun and have no clue to do deal with their kill properly. I have more issue with agribusiness and factory farms though.

Do people actually eat bear meat? I mean, I knew people hunted bears, but do they actually eat it? That sounds gross. I`m a vegitarian, though. Not for moral reasons or anything, I just don`t like the taste of meat.

@ renaud i totally agree with you man, although it is a tragedy we must kill to nourish our life energies it is a simple fact in the circle of life. mass production, farmed meat, slaughter houses now thats is upsetting the order of things and cruelty.
however i cannot stand for or against that either...that is part of the human circle of life...it is change, it is darwanism and evolution at its finest, to make mistakes and correct them slowly and constantly

Hunting = Good because: 1-The meat is better,it`s not filled with 34 chemical products that may or may not cause cancer...
2- Dying with a single bullet or two VS waiting in an animal`s death row to die...and most of the time it includes electric shock (i know thats how the stun the poultry before cutting the neck)

inaria - no. They didn`t mostly fight "sheep and barnyard animals" unless you consider lions, tigers, bears (oh my!), elephants, jaguars, dogs, hyenas, and any other number of animals to be "barnyard."

"anyone against it who isn`t a vegetarian should stfu with complaints because the way our poultry, pork, beef, etc. is treated is a real travesty...a delicious, tasty travesty."

Absolutely. Think of it this way- would you rather a) live your life in cages, pushed around, denied access to the outdoors, made to wallow in filth, be pumped full of antibiotics, and then stand in line to die, or b) live your entire life free in the outdoors and one day get shot with an arrow, only to suffer for a few minutes or hours? If you think hunting is cruel, you shouldn`t eat meat at all, because it`s about the kindest way there is to make meat.

Bow hunting does seem to be cruel but one can be just as sloppy with a gun I`d imagine. I am not a hunter but anyone against it who isn`t a vegetarian should stfu with complaints because the way our poultry, pork, beef, etc. is treated is a real travesty...a delicious, tasty travesty.

Instead of bow hunting bears we should leave them alone! That way the population can get out of control and destroy the balance of predator and food source! Then all the bleeding hearts that hate hunting can save us when the predators start hunting us or our children when they move closer to mankind to obtain food! Cause they have all the answer`s even though they can`t come up with a plausible answer.

kougaiji, the gladiators fought against bears and lions too, though. Even elephants (although, at one fight in the arena the crowd demanded the elephants be freed because they had suffered so greatly that even the Romans felt sorry for them, a major feat in and of itself). And no one signed up - the gladiators themselves were generally slaves or men in debt who were sold into it in order to pay off their debts.

Idiots hunting bears with bows and arrows are just as bad as those hunting moose with the same thing. Hunt all you want (I grew up on game meat, I`m not anti-hunter at all!) but for god`s sake have SOME empathy for the game you`re hunting. Bears should not be brought down (in MY opinion) by arrows.. too much likelihood to miss a clean kill.

And if it WAS a canned hunt - well, they have that on their karma now. Canned hunts = stupid. Plain and simple. Like shooting fish in a barrel. No challenge.

Not only is the bear in the background fake, but the fact that they are hunting bear with a bow probably means that this was a canned hunt (tame bear in an enclosed area).

Don`t see why it`s deserved. They are hunters. People have been hunting from the beginning of time. I`m not a hunter, or a gun/bow advocate, or anything like that. But there`s nothing wrong with hunting, as long as you`re not killing the animal and leaving it there. Take it home, have it butchered, have something done with the pelt. It`s the cycle of life.
