actually, i have seen this done. i had a physics professor in college that did this in front of us all. it was pretty sweet, we thought he was trying to troll us, and on the fifth try he got it.

i already know how to suspend water: i simply lower it`s temperature to <32 F (or 0 C for you euro`s), and *poof* it holds it`s shape!

The spin force makes the molecules escape away from the center of the cup. It is phisically imposible to do that.

So I can only assume that the video has been compromised. :))))))))

This works best using grape juice in the cup and a clean, white mattress for the table.

If you`re having trouble, try a bigger cup - like a starbucks trenta. The weight helps hold it together.

If this isn`t working for you I recommend trying it with red wine. The tannin helps it hold shape.

5Cats -
`@Gerry1of1, I`ve tried dozens of times and I STILL can`t get it right! What`s the secret???`
It helps to have a REALLY limp wrist to
get a good twist on the cup.

You`re just not twisting it correctly!

And you might be missing the video editing.

Oh, yeah, that old trick. Helps if you spray the inside of the glass with a nonstick cooking spray first.

Ah, the old toroidal laminar flow trick. Classic. I once did this with coke as a kid, it`s harder obviously, but the bubbles make it look so much cooler.

It`s deceptively simple. You have to perform the trick in a universe with different physical laws; that way, the water conforms to the shape of the container even after the container is removed.

I can sell you a quantum flux displacer on the cheap, if anyone is serious about this...

How to suspend water without a cup......
First thing you need...... A cup.
Wow. Lame sh*t.

Male 638
If you coat the inside of the cup with Oil it will make the cup slide right off without having to twist.

Wow, took you guys that many tries? Only took me about 5... Guess I got lucky O.o
0
Reply
Male 359
What he fails to mention is that the water needs to be as cold as possible (33 degrees is optimal) and that you really need to coat the inside of the glass (not plastic) with some sort of non-stick spray.

backassward has hit the nail on the head here chaps, impossible to remove the cup without some degree of vacuum force pulling the water out of shape

"1. water freezes from the top down, so it would be hard to only freeze the very outside layer of a cylindrical shape, though it is possible."

No you are wrong. Water freezes from the outside in. Liguid wants to always be spherical to minimize the outside layers that dont have the same molecular bonding as a molecule in the middle would. If it is evenly cold throughout an area, like in a freezer, it would freeze outside in. Have you never frozen a drink or something?

I agree it is probably fake, just trying to figure out if it could happen

Please dont try to correct someone on a comment when it is obvious you have no clue what you are talking about.

"Looks like he freezes the water so the very thin outside layer is ice.."

That would be quite difficult to do for a few reasons.
1. water freezes from the top down, so it would be hard to only freeze the very outside layer of a cylindrical shape, though it is possible.
2. water expands when frozen, thus making it more difficult to remove the cup.
3. seriously, come on, it`s fake. derp.

This is one of the most retarded things I`ve been. Anyone who gets a pooload of water everywhere, deserves what they get.

Oh, and btw, the glass is airtight, so no matter what you do, the water comes with it to some degree, it has a vacuum inside.

"am I the only one who didnt get why you need the towel..?:p"

idk either man, i just did and and didn`t need the towel, maybe you should try it. Who knows, maybe you`ll find a good use for that darn towel.
Fake Fake Fake Fake Fake
Just cause you don`t understand it doesn`t mean it won`t work.
Maybe it`s a combination of surface tension and centrifigal force?

Try it before deciding it`s FAKE!
Then get back to us.

See! RockWell has a possible solution.

Looks like he freezes the water so the very thin outside layer is ice... when he breaks it it looks like ice there. So the inside is liquid and the whole thing looks liquid... is this maybe how he did it?

"am I the only one who didnt get why you need the towel..?:p"

They tell people to get a towel because the ones who are dumb enough to try this `trick` will need a towel when they inevitably spill water all over their counter :P
