This is why I hate the news. The video never shows what happened before this point. There is a good amount of police cars there which means that this chase has been going on for a while. Who knows that this kid did before they started recording? IMO, the officers here are innocent. Maybe the kid had a gun? Maybe he was driving endangering other people`s lives? Who knows, because the video never showed what happened before the officers got to him.

Judging by the number of cars, he might well have deserved it. Yes, you can`t beat go beating people up so the cops will get disciplined. But hey, the dude isn`t exactly a bystander.

Firstly, the suspect got to his feet fine, didn`t even appear to be hurt. Seems to me the cops should be suspended for not beating him good enough. I mean they are going to get suspended anyway, might as well make it worthwhile.

@nyislanders Doesn`t matter what he did. Once he surrendered, thats the end of it. (Into the hands of the judicial system.) C`mon - supposed to be the good guys. If that`s what happens when you surrender it just encourages criminals to resist because they are gonna get beat anyway may as well get your licks in to.

nvislanders, I can understand what you mean in some scenarios but in this particular video there was not really a reason for them to kick the crap out of him. Once he surrendered I`m sure they could have forcefully checked him for weapons. But boot drating him? Seriously?

Just like the business world, police shouldn`t be allowed to bring emotion into the workforce.

    @ nyislanders,
It`s true we have no pre-event perspective but the fact remains: the guy was on the ground surrendering and was beaten numerous times by numerous so-called police officers. Regardless of what came before, their actions are inexcusable. They are dangerous thugs and should spend a good long time in jail getting b*ttf*ed with the guy they were beating laughing in the background!

The fact that some states deem recording of police officers in the line of duty against the law is deplorable. They record the public, but we can`t record them for our own protection. My state of New Hampshire also has a law using "wiretapping" as being against the law. I think it`s rediculous that the police, who work for us, the taxpayers, protect themselves, but the public can`t. Not all cops are corrupt. But many are. Especially in the big cities.

@nyislanders i dont know much about laws, but i do know that police may arrest a suspect, not punish him. if he had a gun then he lost it and they are no longer in danger, if they had been chasing him for 2 days while driving like a hurricane, he longer does. whatever he did they should arrest him (they could use force to stop him) and thats all.now because of this violence he could be set free. cops job is to enforce the law, not change it to their liking

ugh, this is pathetic. Who let humanity breed more Al Sharptons? I mean seriously, did they forget to mention he robbed someone? They didn`t even describe how he did it, maybe he had a gun or did some expensive damage. If they just caught him and locked him up, hed be out in months, maybe a few years tops. Beat the hell out of him, and im sure he`ll at least think twice before robbing again.

There`s a lesson to be learned here, kids: Cops don`t like it when you make them chase you. Anyone that doesn`t understand this is up for a rude awakening. I`m not necessarily condoning what they did, but I can understand it. Police have to deal with the dregs of society on a daily basis. Often times, they have to watch said dregs get away with it. Frustration ensues. Then a situation like this arises. Extended chase, adrenaline pumping, and then they finally get their hands on a scumbag. And who knows how many innocent people`s lives he put in danger during the chase? (or police officers) Again, not saying I condone this type of "law enforcement", but I do understand what leads up to it. If you don`t want this to happen to you, don`t run from the police. Or better yet, how about not robbing some poor SOB that works their ass off for few things he does have? Just my two cents.

whilst I agree that he should get done for robbing someone and being a crim in general, I also don`t think he was deserving of the beating he got. It was over the top, and it was assault. If he had just raped someone however, or murdered, then I would say there had been no wrong doing here at all. Desperate people do desperate things so, sure he robbed but he gave himself up.

@bostonKaiser really is it understandable that for a minute on cop is just wialing on him kicking him in the face punching him in the upper thigh and kicking him in the balls all for the better part of a minute while 3 others hold him down ? that doesn`t sound like the "adrenaline pumping" that sounds like a psychopath just wanting to inflict pain to a point that exceeds human boundaries. U.S is similar to ours here. a you`re innocent till proven guilty, that criminal code but in the charter of right... no person need be exposed to any form of cruel or unusual punishment for any reason. you have two huge laws built into the foundation of the country that prevent these things from happening but the drating police unions let drating apes like this do w/e the drat they want.

MeGrendel "Chad could easily avoided this."

He shouldnt have to avoid anything like this when it comes to the behavior of police officers moron.

"...don`t break into peoples places and steal that which you did not earn."

Good advice for one and all. That whole "fair trial" and "due course" stuff is irrelevant. Where does he think he is, in some nation ruled by laws?

    "Don`t piss off the police."

Again, good advice. Because if you do piss off the police, you will be beaten savagely. Its what cops are supposed to do. Its part of their right to mete out punishment. Make the cops mad, you lose your civil rights.

    "Real simple, actually."

Jails are over crowded, too much crime committed. Maybe if the cops did this more often there`d be a bit less crime. If you don`t want your ass kicked, then don`t be a f###ing scum bag criminal. In my home town we had a huge cop who beat on gang members...his jurisdiction was the safest in the city. Go to Moscow and see how criminals are treated there.

Nothing justifies beating someone so severely while complying with the police.

As an officer you are there to uphold the law, and satisfying your personal frustrations is not part of that. Sure there is some leeway in how an officer can treat a suspect, but a severe beating like this is unwanted and disqualifies the integrity of these officers.

Anyone disagreeing with this either relies on sentimental, populist and/or fallacious reasoning and should ask him/herself whether she/he wants to live in a constitutional democracy.

As much as we would want to beat the crap out of people, in a civilization that values justice there should be no place for this kind of "street justice" especially not by those we expect to uphold the law.

No matter what they are police and should uphold the LAW. They always say you can judge a community/country by the way they treat their criminals and by this you are being judged. This is no different from hired goons playing vigilantly. Shame on them, they should leave their jobs. If he had just raped a kitten, set an old lady on fire, molested a police officer, or assaulted a child this would not have bothered me in the slightest, but simple burglary, there are like 10 cars responding... for burglary, really? I think there might be more to this story that no one is telling. Everyone knows when you run from the cops, they are going to bring an 455whoopin, and if you resist, even more so, but this was taken way to far...sure the initial pounce or tackle is gonna hurt, but if there is no struggle, thats all you get. If indeed it was just a burglary case, and thats it, these officers should not be allowed to be officers anywhere, or prison guards, or even mall security.

think all of the orifficers on the scene should have been charged. the notion that cops have to protect other cops even when they do something illegal is absurd.

Im from Houston too... I know a couple officers personally. The officers that stay on beat are often there for a reason. some of them are intolerant and small minded. perfect for enforcing the most b.s. of b.s. laws. Mob mentality takes over when more than 2 of them congregate over a perp.

2.) This is blatantly illegal and assault no matter what the kid did, and is wrong and if you really disagree and are not trying to be an internet tough guy then you are a horrible human being.

Anyone saying he deserved it is an idiot. It is not the police`s job to mete out punishment. The punishment for a crime is determined in court, and then carried out afterward.

If you want a country where police can use their own discretion to retaliate for non-lethal crimes, then you can go find yourself a nice cozy dictatorship to live under.

This video is waaaaaay worse than the Rodney King beating. King was still getting up and squirming around. This guy didn`t move, he obviously surrendered. No matter how pissed off you might be, as a police officer, you can`t do that.
I`m a teacher, no matter how stupid I think a student of mine is, I sure as hell don`t tell him. It`s a matter of conducting yourself in a somewhat professional matter.
By the looks of the fat ass cops, they should take that aggression out in the gym, not a suspect.

It doesn`t MATTER what the guy did. the police`s job is to detain and arrest him. once he is on the ground or in a postition where he can be cuffed and detained, they are no longer supposed to use ANY force whatsoever. this is just another case of powercrazy cops. of police that have been trained to believe that everyone is a perp, and that have not been trained to think through their actions and repress their personal emotions before they do take action. i don`t care if they were MAD that they had to CHASE this guy. he ran, go get him. it is in no way in their line of duty to try and punish anyone at all. ever. period.

DiePSPolice-"Didn`t you learn when you were 5 years old that two wrongs don`t make a right?"

I did not comment on if I thought meeting was wrong or right. From the facts given, it appears to be excssive. and I hope of the officers are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. (of course, we were not giving ALL of the facts)

My comment was an observation that a little intelligence on the part of Chad would have saved him a beating and not pissed off a lot of cops.

I don`t think death should be the sentence for burglery, either. But in this neigborhood a burgler has a very good chance of running into an armed owner. Several have been killed. Now I don`t think a plasma tv is work the life of an individual, but the stupid individuals who broke into the homes thought one was worth putting their lives on the line. (hint: it`s not a good idea to practice breaking and entering in an area HEAVY with hunters.)

Digital_Babu-"Nothing justifies beating someone so severely while complying with the police. "

Judging from the number of police cars chasing him, and the fact that he jumped from the car and tried to run, it would seem that he demonstrated a lack of `complying`. We don`t know what happened, but it looked like the end to an extended chase (which is NOT `complying`) He may have pulled over initially, pretending to `comply`, only to speed off again, maybe attempting to hit (or even hitting) an officer. Maybe he played bumper cars with the cops. Maybe hit almost ran down a 7-year-old kid.

He may not have disserved a beating (or he may have), but sure as hell wasn`t innocent. And the entire incident was created by his stupidity.

I`m pretty sure that`s a quote directly from the 6th amendment of the US constitution. Seriously though, if that`s how you think, I hope you get your ass beat by the cops over a misunderstanding. He`s probably guilty- but it`s not the job of the cops to carry out the sentence. Their only job is to apprehend suspects so they can stand trial- and to do so with as little force as necessary. Thanks to these a**holes, there`s a good chance this kid will be able to sue the police department, wasting taxpayer dollars- all because they can`t fcuking control their aggression.

theelgeth- so I`m a "dick man" and ignorant... and this guy (aka criminal robbing a house) is a saint.. What if it was your house, and the sanctity of your house was violated? What if he stole your possessions that you bust your ass for, and got away with it. That would be okay- right? And oh yeah what if your little kid got in the way, and he knifed her, or ran her over with a car? When I was 12 I was stabbed with a kitchen knife by some non-nice individual robbing our house because I got home from school early. Lets make excuses for the poor criminal… Jesus, why don’t you send the poor little guy half your pay check each month and bake him some cookies… People and media always want to be bleeding hearts portraying criminals as the victim. So it was a story – made ya think huh? No worse than the way it portrayed this poor innocent boy getting beat down by da man…

dont do the minor crime if you cant do the violent excessive police beating... right? regardless of f he deserved a beatdown, the police overstepped their boundaries and they need to be held to the highest moral standards if they want to earn the trust and respect of their community.

    @rogue knight
You are an ignorant, small-minded man. Yes, the boy was a burglar. Yes, he shouldn`t have committed that crime. But did you ever wonder WHY he decided to steal? You do realize that there are reasons behind why people do things, right? You do know that people aren`t just "born that way," right? Or is that what you tell yourself so you can pretend that the world you live in is nice and simple? Honestly...

And another thing - what sort of world do you want to live in? Really, I`d like to know. Do you want to live in a world where people don`t commit crimes only because they`re afraid? A world where everybody would love to murder and steal, but are simply too afraid. You simply want to brand people as unchangeable criminals. Goddamn, give people the chance to see the error of their ways, for f*ck`s sake! Hell, maybe even help them! Don`t just condemn them as "evil," or whatever bullsh*t adjective you like to use to justify crime.

The Police are supposed to act professionally, perhaps they should change their profession to cage fighting!

@Kaizer250- you are a small devilishly stupid liberal Speaking of small – your right there at 5’9 Napolean... Prisons are full of these guys that “have reasons for stealing” and all of their other crimes- the reason is liberals like you and urbanlegend make excuses for them and make opportunities for them to get out of being punished for their crimes. Why don’t you guys hold hands and skip off to a local prison – visit your buddies- I’m sure you’d have a great time . You don’t know what you are talking because you’ve never been the victim of a crime so you are talking out of your @ss. Based on your “bi” status that area gets enough traffic without you talking out of it- therefore it makes sense that your position is a load of crap!

Holy poo, there were like six cops kicking this one kid.
All the kid did was rob and run, he didn`t murder a baby, there was no reason for that kind of brutality, especially after the kid gave up.

And thats what happens when you give the police too much power. @sbeelz - unfortunately, a fascist police state seems to be where we are slowly heading. Hopefully people begin to pull their head out of their asses, see what is really happening around them, and realize that the federal government has way too much power over the state governments.

do you know this? this is the END of the pursuit, he could`ve been driving a car like a maniac and killed someone and then hopped out. I don`t know the whole story, but do you honestly? did you investigate the entire chase?

and I agree with whoever statement that was at the end, "it is irresponsible for ABC13 to air this", yes very much so, especially if this hasn`t been through trial, the only people who could honestly be on the witness stand now are those that didn`t see this because they have an unbiased opinion going into the courtroom

@Sbeelz I don`t always agree with your posts, but you have it bang on this time.

I find the fact that the judicial officials and even the federals tried to suppress the tape, and that the punishment for the policemen involved was so light, to be a truly scary trend that is gaining ground in the "States" right now. Laws governing how low your pants can be, laws against video taping the police during arrest, the whole National Security gig. The U.S. people should be up in arms with pitchforks and torches held high, defending their freedoms, yet a lot aren`t.

The kids should be left to beat fend for himself in prison. That is where he will get beatings. Not by the very people that are there to serve and protect. One day the police will be doing it to normal innocent citizens; just like the nazis. Welcome to America.

Well, the police have done their job. Chad Holley will never rob anyone again. He will live a very good life on the money he gets from the state and the county after the case is settled out of court.

    @Kalimata-
it`s truly disturbing to me not only that Americans AREN`T up in arms about this kind of sh*t, but are actually IN FAVOR of it. We just witnessed, via television and internet media, a massive people`s revolution in Egypt that was largely inspired by a people fed up with a brutal police force with no respect for people`s rights. While I`m sure that Mubarak`s police force was far worse than any US police force, that`s the direction we`re headed if people keep accepting the idea that the police should be permitted to dole out punishments.

The central problem I see is that there is no check on police power- which seems absurd in a country where checks and balances are supposed to be a central feature of the government. Expecting the police to check their own power (which is pretty much how every police force operates) is totally insane.

In closing- to everyone who has commented that this is a good example of how cops should do their jobs- think about what you`re saying. You`re arguing that, essentially, the police should have judicial authority. Not simply that they should be able to use force in apprehending suspects who are resisting, but that they should be allowed to PUNISH suspects who have not yet been given a fair trial. Just toss that thought around inside your heads for a bit.
