This thought is expressly for my fellow worker bees that sit in traffic every day. 75-minute commute every day--respect.

You`d have to have a death wish to ride a bicycle in my city.

Not precisely true. If the car in front of you is farther away than the car behind you, you`re traffic. If you`re behind the dumb bastard in the previous sentence, you`re stuck in traffic.

screw cars, I ride a bike and I grew up in the Netherlands where the bike rules.
But nice adapted infrastructure helps to get along.

The bicycle community is the bane of my city. I wouldn`t mind them if they followed traffic laws. Don`t get all pissed at me when you decided to blow a red light and I have the right of way to cross.

Bicycle? In the snow? F*uck that. I`ll sit in my car with heat and a radio thank you very much. I rode a bicycle for transportation when I wasn`t old enough to drive. I`m done with that.

Around here, car traffic is free flowing. So we only have bad traffic when cyclists are blocking a lane going 15 mph. aka: the bikes are what CAUSE the traffic. I`m stuck in jams that go for 30 or more cars atleast once a week, from one bike rider. For those environmentalists out there....how much fuel is being wasted during those times. 20 minute drive becomes 45 minutes times the number of cars being blocked.
Just saying.

seriously? Check your laws, they (cyclists) are allowed on the roads just as much as the granny driving a V8 doing 27 mph with her left blinker on.

Maxxim, How much fuel IS wasted by all those cars "stuck behind one cyclist"? How much could be saved if they all just rode bikes? Also you could fit about 5 bikes in a lane that`s being used by one dude in his one car burning up a gallon of fossil fuel to get his fat lazy behind in on time. This is why you`re fat America. The cyclist isn`t wasting all of your fuel, you are.

Make sure the bikes you`re trying out are the right size and properly tuned and adjusted. The crappiest huffy that`s sized and adjusted properly will be an astoundingly better ride than a $1000 bike that`s not fitted correctly or tuned up. Your local bike shop can help you with this.
Also, if you`re short on cash, buy used and fix it up. You can get a new huffy that will break in a year for $150 dollars, or a bike that sold for $700-800 5 years back and will last the rest of your life for $200 on ebay or craigslist, in full working order. But make sure you get a bike with a frame that will fit you, and if the bike shop near you is game, get them to check out your used purchase before you buy or before you`ve gone past the seller`s "return by" date.
Other than that Google Sheldon Brown for any and all questions you might have about parts, bike types, or models next time you look for a bike. He`s a legend and a good source for DIY-bent and down-to-earth

its too cold to bike in NYC during the winter, and too hot in the summer, so i can only bike in spring and fall, and for that im not buying a bike, even tho it could save me $104 a month, hmmm on the other hand, a bike only costs like $104, will have to look into it, but being in a suit and on a bike just does not seem to cut it

And what I mean by that is
"You are not stuck in traffic. You are traffic. Go back to bed, be free!"

As A cyclist I concur... I can get home from work in 1/2 hour whilst the 4 wheelers take almost twice as long.

We`d still be traffic if we were on bikes.
If anything, having alot of people on bicycles that the cars have to share the road with would only make traffic worse.

True that. Though I`d sette for people that drive SUV`s by themselves would downscale to something smaller.
