it almost sounds to me like he just rounded them all up in a group and started firing. why wouldn`t you just take them behind the shed one at a time?

These dogs were apparently old/sick according to the company`s operator. most of the information printed is speculation brought forth from workers comp claims and isn`t exactly unfailing. though i do think a more compassionate method of euthanasia should have been implicated, but 100 bullets(providing the person shooting knows what he`s doing) is a lot cheaper than 100 lethal injections.

There`s no need to judge entire countries based on things we see on the internet.

Typical Canadians, if they`re not beating seal pups they are shooting dogs. You guys up there don`t like animals much do you?

I am not a dog person, in fact I cant stand them. I still think this is really uncalled for. People should respect the flame of life that is in all living things. There are always options!

i want to shoot the guy who did this in the face, not enough to kill him, just enough so his eyeball is hanging out and he can run away.

@Durrell: "The gruesome event was described in documents awarding compensation to a worker, who claimed post-traumatic stress disorder for having to shoot the dogs after bookings dropped sharply for a tour operator following the 2010 Winter Olympics. " That makes it sound like she was forced to do it. That`s why I said what I said. I could be wrong, but that`s not really what`s important, really. What`s important is just how awful people really can be to animals sometimes.

@bacon_pie: Speaking of Vick, did you hear he hopes to own a dog again some day?

People should be clear that it wasnt the adventure company that did it although they did contract someone to do it nonetheless under the assumption it would be "clean" >.< Bastard that DID do it got busted because he filed a workers comp report for it >.<

thats sick nasty poor dogs they could of had been put up for adoption or gone to Alaska to work for a company that would treat them right and why shoot then do it humanly with a vaccination not have it run off with a eye hanging out in pain

"culling" sled dogs happens, just not this many at a time usually. Also there are groups who try to find homes for retired dogs to avoid this sort of incident.
Millions of pigs chickens horses cows ducks rabbits & other assorted farm animals are killed every day.
Also, people eat dogs in some places. Don`t get your undies in a knot over ONE event in Canada, eh?

So yes, it is senseless slaughter, the owner was an idiot, lets hope it never happens again!

How stupid do you have to be to not be able
to put an animal down humanely?

Next time, don`t shoot from 10 feet away, idiot.

cruel/unusual punishment is inaccurate. punishment implies the dogs did something. This is just senseless slaughter.

@rick S

the owner is who did it. Law enforcement became aware of it when a worker reported a workers comp claim for PTSD due to having known what was going on and not being able to do anything

First, i`m sure this has been posted before.

Second, the guy was unstable to start, and in no way was this a reflection of how dogs are treated in Canada in general, and in no way was it legal, or a `Canadian` thing to do

Third. it is a very terrible thing

Simply put, I wouldn`t have killed them, and would have done everything in my power to prevent the owner from doing it.
