His beak can hold more than his bellycan
It can hold in its beak

Yes, we all spot that it`s a pigeon. But the caption is actually referring to the big white thing....

Why would it even want to eat a pigeon whole? Seems like there would be more sharp points than in a fish, and fish bones are softer.

Many birds can use cranial kinesis, they stretch their skulls to swallow outsized food. Also when you look at a bird like a pigeon most of the `bulk` is feathers, a plucked pigeon, or indeed one with its feathers slicked down isn`t that big.

Nature can be harsh

Erm, yes, pelicans can eat whole pigeons, just as they can swallow decent sized fish whole.

"It was kind of cute until I found out he`s getting eaten and now it`s not. "

That bird is not getting eaten. Think about it. Pelicans have to swallow poo whole. Do you think that pelicans throat could handle a whole bird? Also, if that bird really wants out, it would just carve its way out of that skin sack thing.

Actually, the pelican did eat the bird:

"An unlucky pigeon takes its final look at the world – peeking out from a pelican’s beak. The little bird had been eating near a pond in St James Park, London, when it was scooped up by the much bigger bird. Adults and children watched in horror as the pigeon tried desperately to escape for 15 minutes. At one point it looked like it was going to break free as the pelican opened its beak, allowing the pigeon to gaze out. But the startled creature missed its opportunity and was swallowed whole. Photographer Paul Mansfield, 44, captured the remarkable scene while on a day trip to the capital with his family "
