    Okay, she messed up.
But she also immediately issued the following twitter.

"I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."

NO....I do not twitter. I got that from cbs news.
I think twitter is for twits but I guess it has it`s uses.

In some countries of the world, to sing it any way other way besides "as written" would be a crime. Let alone messing it up.

    "Okay, she messed up. "

We`re all human, and we all make mistakes. Some of us are just lucky enough that it`s not in front of a few million people while singing the national anthem of our country.

"just sung it like it`s supposed to be sung."

It was written as a poem to be read or spoken.
Not to be sung at all. The range is too difficult
for most performers. I`m not a fan of ex-Disney sluts
but she did a pretty good job.

Gerry, the song part is a minor second above an octave and a half. Most people have a range of about two octaves.

The problem isn`t the range, it`s the performer not knowing what pitch to start on.

I`ll agree that it has a wider range than most songs should.

guys, it`s not about her range AT ALL. "whose broad stripes and bright stars/through the perilous fight/WHAT SO PROUDLY WE WATCHED/AT THE TWILIGHTS LAST GLEAMING" should have been "O`er the ramparts we watched/were so gallantly streaming"

she can hit notes okay.better than f><cking fergie screaming into the mike at the half-time show everytime the attention was taken away from her for a second. at the beginning of the half-time show, her mike was actually off. it should have stayed that way the whole time.

The mistake is forgivable, it wasn`t intentional. What I have a problem with is when a performer personalizes The National Anthem. It isn`t their crappy pop 40 songs, it is our nations song. Sing it with feeling and respect, but do not modify it. Keep the proper key and pace and never add, change, or omit words. Skip the vibrato, unless you can do it properly, which most of today`s fabricated singers can`t. If you can`t do the song justice, do not sing it at the Super Bowl.

Someone point out to me the exact moment where she `fails` the `national anthem`. I didn`t hear her go off pitch, and although the range is varied considerably that is not reason to call it a fail when there have been other `artists` that have both a) varied it more and b) sung it a lot worse. So please, give me a time marker where I`m supposed to hear her fail.

Not really enjoyable. It sounded all over the place, and there was no melody or rhythm to the song at all. I like our national anthem, and I wish they would get a more classical singer to perform it for once instead of pop stars.

She did it really well! She covered it up nicely- I didn`t see the Superbowl so I watched it after and I had to go back a few times to hear where she messed it up- but she over sang it. It`s hard to hear the actual song when she`s doing so many vocal acrobatics .___.

I think Lea Michele should have done it! She sang America the Beautiful live for the Superbowl and she did an amazing job without over singing it too bad. The Dixie Chicks still have one of the most amazing performances of your anthem though.

Forgive my uber-patriotism, but in the olden days, the stadium announcer would say "Here`s <so and so>, who will lead us in the national anthem" The emphasis was in LEADING, not in performing. Everyone is supposed to sing, but no one can follow when they do a stylized "performance." We sing the national anthem to reinforce a feeling of community, not just to wave the flag.

@ Lilou88 i totally agree with you on that. I never have been able to stand it when these idiots ruin a song (much less the National Anthem ) by changing the sound to include 40 notes where one should go. It seems to me like they think they believe to know better than to sing it how it was written. as far as her jumbling the words, every one makes mistakes, why are famous people held to a higher standard. Most Americans don`t know the words and most red necks think the last line is "gentlemen start your engines" lastly i want to say when will we get rid of this crap we call music, and bring back actual good music 8-)

If you were really worried about how bad your National Anthem is sounding then do something about it. And my national anthem is crap anyway so it can not sound much worse.
