Painful and awsome at the same time. Still it begs for the "women drivers" genre of comments.

I`m gonna go out on a limb and say I`m the only one who feels the worst for the lady who hit him. The genuine worry and fear in her voice made me feel for her.

That and any man who can stay on his feet after that needs no sympathy.

@ everyone saying he stopped to fast:

It doesn`t matter, because as far as every single insurance company in the world is concerned, if you hit someone from behind then it is -your- fault. There is no "oh but he stopped quickly" because the driver of the SUV should`ve been further back (in the eyes of the insurance company). There is no way for a biker to make sure he is far enough in front of the car behind, it`s all on the car behind to make sure there is enough space between them and the car in front. Nuff said.

If you have ever been in an accident the most important thing to do is make sure everyone is OK, not start blaming like play ground morons.

@HalfPintRoo

"No excuse BUT the motorcycle did stop hard and late"

No it didn`t, it was a perfectly controlled stop considering what the traffic in front was doing.

Blame is ENTIRELY on the SUV driver.

Wow, this is why we dont let motorcycles drive on the road. If he hadn`t been there then there would be no accident. Stupid males and their hormones "oh i gotta drive a motorcycle cause im so cool". Poor woman, hope her car is okay.

People think motorcycle accidents are due to the biker`s driving but most accidents occur because of stupid dumb sh*ts like the b*tch above who doesn`t see the motorcycle.

Actually, the biker doesn`t speak at all. I`d guess it`s the driver of the van making a comment.
that and her shoes look like of the high-heeled variety, id guess the biker is female... or a male down with female stylings
And in case you`ve never seen biker boots, they tend to have heels. Those weren`t any higher than the ones I`ve seen on any other biker boots...

The other frustrating part is this idiot woman was probably digging in her purse for something when she hit him. If the bike wasn`t there, she either would have hit the car in front of her or would have come inches from doing it and then she would have said. "tee hee...wow, that was close. tee hee hee hee." Dumb bitch should be off the road forever.

As a rider i can tell you this kind of apathy is NOT uncommon. While Ive yet to be hit, people have come damn close more than a few times and it is frustrating. I would sue this lady for all shes worth just to put her in a retirment home and off the street. Bike was probably a small blur to her and she didnt even see it till she hit it.

so quick to blame the motorcycle for lane sharing.
I saw a guy riding in his own lane.
you ride and stop to one side so you aren`t in the grease spot.
this is NOT lane sharing.

How about we just blame the fat slag who wasn`t watching where she was going and hit a motionless vehicle?

@Musuko Generally speaking, you aren`t allowed to split lanes here when traffic is in motion unless it`s moving slower than 15MPH and that`s only if the state you are in allows splitting lanes. Much like through Europe though, some countries allow lane splitting and others done so it`s a lot like how state laws are here in the U.S. So while it can be a bit confusing driving state to state, if you stick by the rule that you don`t split lanes, ever, then you won`t have to worry about remembering which states have laws about this and which don`t. It`s a lot like turning on a red light. Some states allow you make a right turn on a red light, some don`t. You just have to get educated on this when you drive. No biggie.

@vegascartman

Also, here it`s called filtering, not splitting lanes.

Note though, cutting between lanes when the traffic is MOVING is still very much illegal here. It`s only when there`s a queue of stationary traffic. Though, some do bend the rule a smidge when it`s stop-start crawling queues of traffic.

"The motorcycle has every right to be there, just like a car or a bus."

Oh I`m DEFINITELY not disputing that, being a motorcyclist myself.

I`m defending the idea that filtering is a good idea for everyone involved. The biker doesn`t get held up by slower-accelerating vehicles, is at much less risk of this kind of accident, and the cars behind are one vehicle-length closer to the light, reducing congestion, which is handy when there`s a short green.

"Musuko: The term is called "splitting a lane" and in some states it`s legal and in others it is not. Where he was at it probably wasn`t."

Strange to have a patchwork like that. Must be confusing to drive cross-country and pass through different rules.

vv @Musuko42, in North America it`s usually illegal to `filter` like that. The motorcycle has every right to be there, just like a car or a bus.

"That woman is lucky to be alive. If it were most riders they would have answered her, "Are you OK?" with a swift smash in the head with their helmet. Stupid drating woman."

Speaking from my own personal experience, the anger comes later...much later.

At the time, you`re too dazed. Whatever brain chemistry is going on at that time, it`s powerful. I remember feeling totally blank, not even feeling anything at the sight of my totalled bike, nor feeling any emotion about the pain I was in.

Perhaps the brain just decides "okay, there`s a lot going on right now, I`m going to have to shut down the non-vital stuff for now, I`ll worry about it later."

I have an helmet with a little camera in it. It helps a lot for insurance purpose in case of something like that happening and the driver taking off. Maybe he`s got one too but the quality and angle seems to be very good, maybe it`s a gopro.
Or maybe the rider was about to do a speed ride or something.

"Musuko, I`m sure it`s in America. Over here, we`re backward, especially when it comes to traffic. We still have damned traffic lights while Britain has those awesome roundabouts."

He`d still want to filter to the right at that particular stop (under UK rules anyway): safer to be between the two lanes going his direction, than between the directions.

Both would be legal here, so long as the queue of traffic is stopped, and you do it safely, without crossing any solid lines or the stop/giveway line.

Roundabouts do rock. But have you seen the hideous lovechild of traffic lights and roundabouts? Roundabouts...with traffic lights on them.

It`s strange and redundant, but the councils around where I live and work seem to have a hardon for them.

"how many riders go around with a camera on their helmet?"

Many. Check out youtube some time. Recording rides is a very common thing.

"What are the odds that this would happen to someone with a camera, with it on, etc?"

The human race is HUGE. There are billions of people, riding millions of motorcycles, with thousands of cameras, and more accidents than we`d all like. Odds resolve to 1 that the factors will combine into an event like this at least once, sooner or later.

Remember, if there`s a one in a million chance of something happening to someone, it`s happening to 6,900 people in the world.

Incidentally, I wonder what the laws are in that location. In Britain, if the traffic is stationary, motorcyclists are allowed to filter to the front.

In this case, it would mean the biker would be alongside the car in front`s right wing, would be first away from the lights, and would not have been at risk of being shunted in the back like that.

And the queue at the lights would be one vehicle shorter for anyone else behind him.

More or less so than for the biker who was potentially injured, could have been killed, and had his bike destroyed, because of her negligence?
