Intelligence is a measure of potential.

Genius is a measure of accomplishment.

Kennedy got us involved in Vietnam he was also responsible for the bay of pigs. His family made themselves rich and what some consider "royalty" through the prohibition by selling illegal booze. It`s amazing what people will forget when you blow their head off and make them a martyr.

Woodrow Wilson would have to qualify for the most insane president for passing the Federal Reserve Act. Intelligence FAIL on behalf of web-site.

While in school a measure of intelligence might be ones IQ or class scores, in the real world what counts is what you accomplish.

All the people on the list have accomplished the feat of becoming the President of the United States of America. Something fewer than 50 people have done in the last 235 years. Just exactly what have the people that put together this list done that even comes close?

Wow no George Washington? ;-() What a slap down. Shows the lack of understanding intelligence by the sites blowtards. They need to apparently learn the art of war. Just ask the British who kept under estimating Washington`s intelligence. Many times Hamilton, Jefferson, and Adams thought him ignorant as well, yet many times were duped by Washington`s application of psychology to get what he wanted. They need to study the diaries of such men better before making judgment.

I would love to know the criteria for defining intelligence vs. stupidity. The long-term popularity of decisions seems to be the defining line. Popularity does not equate to intelligence, however.

duckboy87, you really cannot make a true correlation between two things with only a couple of examples. with the few times we have this actually happening we do not have enough information to really come to that conclusion. not to mention other circumstances that were involved in all cases. fdr`s plan made life a lot better for many people until the end of wwII, and brought our economy to low, yet stable position.

also, we cannot compare what we are going through now, to what happened in the 20`s/30`s fairly.

They forgot FDR. The man`s "New Deal" made The Great Depression last a lot longer than it should have.

Case in point: Black Monday, October 19th, 1987, the Dow Jones dropped 508 points. Reagan did nothing. Three months later everything was status quo.
Counterpoint. FDR`s New Deal introduced Social Security and other programs to help people. The Great Depression lasted until after the war.
George W. Bush saw that Wall Street was suffering, he bailed them out. Now we see another depression.

Yeah, obviously biased since one of the first sentences is along the lines of "We`re not putting Obama and Kennedy in this list because their OBVIOUSLY smart".

Although I have never looked closely at Kennedy`s policies or background, from what I hear he was a pretty good president

It`s hard to believe anyone ranked higher than Bush. I would have to dispute his #2 ranking for dumbest.

lionhart2, actually, that was me. I figured I would do my best to not have a flame war, but in politics it seems to be inevitable.
Seriously. The guy is saying Calvin Coolidge is dumb because he wasn`t talkative.
You are aware that that was a pun based on the two meanings of `dumb`, right?
Because when someone can`t talk, they are dumb, like someone who can`t see is blind? So he`s the dumbest president because he doesn`t speak?

Yeahhhh...

Not that I put any stock in the study this was based on, and I really don`t, but it is admitted by all parties that GWB was admitted into Yale as a legacy, and not for any hint of intelligence or academic accomplishment whatsoever.

"he only managed a C average at Yale"
"only"
as if the article writer even got into Yale (or any other prestigious school) let alone maintain at least a C average...

Ok now that this list is over I can give you the one that actually matters. This is the list of the worst and best presidents (no matter what their IQ might have been, this is all about policy)

Best: Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Jackson, Kennedy

Worst: Pierce, Buchanan, Lincoln (shock I know, but when you suspend Habeas Corpus youre on the path to dictatorship), FDR ("Hey lets spend a ton of money just to lower the Unemployment rate by a mere couple of % points. Not to mention lets try and stack the Supreme Court and institute massive welfare programs so we can insure that the lower class stays on the tit of the govt and they can keep voting for me), Carter, Bush II, Obama

"requires no long-winded or flowery introduction"
*gives long-winded introduction*

"Apart from the obvious answer"
*explains what it is*

stopped reading after that.

For the record, I don`t think Reagan was dumb. Conservative, yes. His views on AIDS was abhorrent, and his trickle-down economy was a kick in the nuts of the middle-class. Possible showing signs of Alzheimers later on? yes. Dumb? No.
