so can anyone explain to me why people stand around where the cars are piling up, you know the place that once you have gotten there its already too late? Why not walk to the point of no return(top of the hill) and try to warn people there? Is there something in our genetic code that keeps us from logical thought? Also, walking on frozen ice over water that is 2 feet(fountain)isn`t all that dangerous, walking on ice over water that is >5 could be quite deadly.

Wow so much lack of common sense in all of these videos. Makes me cry a little inside. So a few tips to help yall that might be considering going out over the winter when it is snowing:

    1. Don`t go out, at all, unless it means someone might actually die.

    2. If someone might actually die, then pull away in second gear for more traction (lol at automatics, just don`t even do this in an auto really).

    3. ENGINE BREAK. Use your gears to give you more traction and control when you need it. In this weather, 15 mph is too fast on an icy road. 10 gives you time to react and prevent a collision.

    4. Don`t do stuff whilst you drive. How many people did I see texting, talking on the phone ("OMG im driving now and its MAAAAAD"). You will crash.

    5. EVERYONE ELSE is stupid, EVERYONE ELSE is going to make a bad decision and come into your lane, or slam their brakes on and steer with the skid , so BE READY and BE CAREFUL.

    Cont a

@agp: I`ll tell you what a lot of them are thinking. They saw the tv commercial how their car avoided a deer on a dark snowy road. They saw their car race a giant snowball down a hill. They saw their car do slaloms, spinouts, and evasive maneuvers (pedestrians, animals, jackknifing tractor trailers, kids chasing balls into the street, etc.) without ever losing traction.

They`re also not doing simple math. If two drive wheels have zero traction, then four drive wheels have exactly double that: zero.

    7. If you own a 4x4 and you don`t know what limited slip diff is, or high and low range, or have no driving experience in harsh conditions, or if you think that YOU OWN A 4X4 SO ITS OK to charge around like a loon because LOL MY 4X4 IS A 4X4 SO AUTOMATICALLY IT HANDLES THIS then you are very wrong.

I rescued 6 4x4s this winter in my GFs nissan micra because they had no idea how to drive their cars properly. I saw a 6 year old girl rushed to the hospital after a 4x4 doing 30 mph in a 30 (ice though HELLO) was still doing about 30 when he hit the girl. His response was "I thought I could stop with this car".

Don`t be stupid ladies and gents, I mean for real, don`t be retarded. Don`t think you are immmune because you`ve seen many winters and its all good. I mean, wtf are you thinking seriously when you get to the top of a hill on an icy day, see a pile of cars at the bottom and think "oh HEY I guess ill try my luck anyway".....

The very last one has f*cked my mind. I am one of those people who automaticaly assumes that all the drivers are just morons who don`t know what driving is, but just got told what to do in standard situations in order to pass their test. Very harsh, but meh.

But the ones with loads of cars going downhill: surely the 4th/5th driver has to get to get out of their car, think for a minute, and scream "WHY THE HELL ARE NONE OF YOU AT THE TOP OF THE HILL STOPPING PEOPLE???"

Oh and about the kids on the ice, it`s fun granted, but stupid. If you have never been in water that cold then you won`t know that it`s like being smacked in the head with a shovel, all your air goes and you actually can`t think for the first 4-5 seconds as your brain is too busy going "WHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT". I hate to be serious but im a canoe and kayak coach I am all too aware of the dangers ice and cold pose to someones life. How long can you hold your breath in ice cold water? Anyone? 10 seconds, give or take a few.

well, after 10 year in northen Norway and with a little logic I know
how you put chains on a tires :
1 lay the chain down on the snow
2 drive your car on the chain
3 enclose the tier with the chain
4 mind drat everybody, about how you did it

If you live in as country with anual snow, then you will rarely see someone puting on chains, because they are smart enough to put on winter tires before the ice comes, or they use all wether tires.

is right, slamming on your brakes while going down hill, breaks any friction, which in these situations were very little. Try something else, like braking slowly, driving slower to start with, or STAY OFF THE FREAKING ROAD!
