@1:23 If you`re Catholic and your Pastor is preaching Intolerance and Bigotry, you need to go report your dratin` pastor to the Bishop.

@simmer: So you DID completely miss the point. Subtlety is simply lost on some people.

Thank you for your lengthy diatribe, but you`re still totally missing the point. That`s okay though... it seems like others DID get it, so no worries if you didn`t.

the freedom to Peacfully Protest is VERY American.

Even idiots, such as many of the ones seen in this video, have and enjoy that freedom!

YEAH!! for the red white and blue!
{We say that like we are the only flag with those colors! haha}

I got what the video`s point was supposed to be, and I disagreed with it.
America was not founded by people who sacrificed their rights to live comfortable and quiet lives. It was founded by people who were willing to endure hardship, as well as ensure a certain measure of hardship for their children by bucking the largest global power at the time, to guarantee that we would have a say in the way the world around us works. They would be ashamed to see us trade in our rights to discourse freely and openly just so that the majority could live an un-conflicted life.
Furthermore, the chances we do have to pursue "golden opportunities" in the U.S. were won by ordinary people exercising their rights, sometimes in ballot boxes, sometimes on the streets. I refer you to my previous examples. The American Dream is a byproduct of the freedoms that our nation`s founders won for us, not the other way around.

@SlothOfDoom
It`s an anti-abortion argument that focuses on the disproportionate number of abortions per black pregnancy vs. abortions per white pregnancy.

I don`t know the argument too well. This seems like an obvious place to start.

Not that I agree with this, I`m pretty firmly pro-choice, for a lot of reasons I won`t go into. But you asked, and I think these folks` grievances deserve to be taken seriously.

Sometimes things that seem crazy are just out of your frame of reference more than they are actually irrational.

Well the good news is that more and more Americans are registering as Independents. Hopefully this will cut down on extremism and help get some (more) moderates in office. I guess people are getting tired of the BS on both sides. I`m just curious, what does holding up extremely radical sign on a street corner actually accomplish? I think you`re much better off calling your Congressman

also, i believe Gandhi was quite racist...in fact he mostly got riled up that dark skinned Indians were being grouped together with Africans.He thought the Indians should get better treatment.He was fighting for the equality of Indians, not people in general, and should not be considered in the same sphere as MLKjr.

@ggolbez
In retrospect, MLK really didn`t do all that much for the civil rights movement except for give inspirational speeches. There was already an atmosphere of support for civil rights in Washington, they were just pushing through the bureaucracy and bigotry.
Gandhi, if you actually examine his writings besides his comments on "Civil Disobedience", you`d find that he was a Hindu fanatic who wanted to send India back to the dark ages because technology was "what caused Britain`s oppression of India". The historical records show that much more was accomplished by the Indian Muslims who lobbied the British Parliament for independence than Gandhi`s self mutilations and abuse before the news media.
Facts mean everything. People need to actually learn them. I didn`t say that there should be no protests, but people need to learn what purpose they serve. Massive, loud demonstrations like we see today really do nothing.

Volsunga said: "No changes in history have ever been made due to protests."

I guess you never heard of the civil-rights movement.

Volsunga, ever hear of MLK? Gandhi? Before you throw out claims that "No changes in history have ever been made due to protests", maybe you should pick up a history book first. FFS, our culture is now about saying what feels right, not about what IS right. Do facts mean nothing anymore?

"I can`t believe I`m still protesting this sh*t"

We can`t believe you`re protesting it either.

No changes in history have ever been made due to protests. They are made by lobbying your representatives. If you want to see change, do what I do. Write a letter to your congressman with a well reasoned and cited argument for your case. If that doesn`t work, CC that letter to an interest group for your side. Unfortunately for me, it only works for the House, because my state has the most ignorant Democrat (Al Franken) and the most ignorant Republican (Amy Klobuchar) for Senators.

*Sigh* When you have 7 billion people in the world, it`s to be expected that there would be conflicting opinions. It`s stupid to think otherwise. Just like it`s stupid to expect others to think exactly the way you do. That would make the world a bit boring, don`t you think? We should all just agree to disagree and leave it at that. Someone does something you don`t like? Ignore them to the best of your abilities. If a situation forces you to interact with them, remove yourself from the situation. There`s no need for all the hate, people.

simmerslodra: Way to totally miss the point. The video isn`t saying anything that you just implied.

America is supposed to be the land of Golden Opportunities for all. Instead, we`re spending all of our time on ridiculous political BS instead of living in a Free Republic, which is what the Forefathers actually intended.

Subtlety is obviously lost on you.

So, the right to peaceably assemble to petition the government for a redress of grievances? That`s not America?
Without unpopular protest movements we`d still have Jim Crow in the south, women without voting rights, no protections from abuse for laborers, and possibly no republic at all (considering the colonial tax protests that led up to the Revolutionary War).
If you want to live in a place where no one expresses their disagreements with the government, move to North Korea. Otherwise, look at these moments as evidence that anyone who cares enough, no matter how unpopular their beliefs are, can still organize and express themselves in a meaningful way.

Way to ruin my America bashing fun... I`m all sad now.

I`m pretty sure this is over hyped though. The US is surely not the land of the protesters. Right? RIGHT?!
