Damn! Talk about a yo-yo dieter. If there"s ever an Academy Award for drastic weight loss and gain, it"s Bale"s for sure

Gaining all that weight back must have been so AWESOME! Nom fest.

@alley228 it`s usually not, and probably wasn`t the greatest, but when done the safe way you can avoid a lot of issues that can come with that...

it`s not a natural weight flux, or "yo-yo dieting" it`s conditioning to fit the rolls he`s given. In the Machinist, he lost more weight than he was required of him.

Smokeylove11, losing/gaining weight is not "method" acting.

My absolute faaavorite actor right now. I recently saw The Machinist and his performance was incredible. He used the most authentic facial expressions. He`s the best.

Yes, and he`s probably going to live a short life for it.

I wasn`t complaining, I was trying to help someone who had a similar `problem`. Dick.

Well that`s commitment, BUUUT I don`t think that`ll be great for him once he`s getting up in years. That has to take a crazy toll on the system.

Christian Bale is the reason I have begun finding superhero-sized muscles to be attractive. Before Batman Begins, if a dude wasn`t a twig, I was having none of that.

Oh man, I have loved Christian Bale since the Newsies days. I seriously respect the lengths he`s willing to go to for his roles and think it makes him a better actor.

That and the fact that he`s just ridiculously hot!

@DixxyRarr, speak for yourself. He`s my absolute celeb crush and me and my boyfriend have an understanding that if I ever ran into Bale and he offered some sexy time I have the ok from my boyfriend

This is why I can understand his outburst on the set of Terminator Salvation, because he takes his acting career so seriously and is truely dedicated to every role.

pretending to be someone you are not should never be taken seriously...
that being said his self discipline is remarkable:)

His body in American Psycho is godlike. You just need to watch the shower scene to understand. Shower scene

I watched Equilibrium and The Machinist the same day. I only realized in the middle of The Machinist that it was the same guy I had just seen in Equilibrium. Then I realized it was the same guy as in American Psycho and Christian Bale gained my eternal respect.

"How the drat?! I`ve been wanting to gain weight like that, how does he do it!? I`m stuck at about 145!"

I only weigh 110 lbs at 5`10" tall. I talked to a nutritionist about gaining weight and she said the average person needs 2,000 calories a day to stay healthy. To gain weight one should consume 3,000. She also said I should do weight training, but I don`t have the money for a gym membership or free-weights, but I found this through google.

And modify small habits that you know are bad for you. Soda is bad for everyone, completely useless sugar, so I don`t drink soda....only water, 2 or 3 Liters a day. I drink soda if I go out to a restaurant (not too often). I don`t carry junk food at home because I indulge. No potato chips in the house, nothing snack foods. If I need to eat, I make a small meal, or snack on something healthy like shreddies, or carrots/celery.

For someone as unhealthy as I am, I take good care of myself I find....those small habits are why I don`t gain weight IMO.

My biggest thing isn`t to eat gross. It`s to eat lots and do little. Eating gross will kill you. McDonald`s is not the way to go. Try eating 2 servings of Spaghetti and garlic bread with dessert. 4 grilled cheese sandwiches. 3 bowls of cereal in the morning. 6 toast with jam/PB/whatever else goes on toast.

I Eat like this daily and am only 230lbs WITHOUT working out, at all...in the past 4 years I have only gained 4 lbs......

I say I can;t walk, that`s not 100% true... I can walk, it hurts to stand up, sit down and go up and down stairs...once I do get walking, once the momentum is built I have no problem.

"How the drat?! I`ve been wanting to gain weight like that, how does he do it!? I`m stuck at about 145!"

Lucky. Try eating a LOT of disgusting fat food. Put on the mass before you turn it into muscle. Otherwise you`re just exercising to lose weight rather than converting it into muscle. You will still lose weight, but more muscle will grow if you have mass for it to grow on.

I know that when I "work-out", I get bulging muscles in a very short time. I haven`t worked out for real in 3 years, but I do sometimes accidentally exercise and feel the muscles growing the next day...Owie (If I run 20 minutes, the next day I can`t walk, is how fast my muscles grow)
