A friend has two Great Danes--they are loving & gentle. I guess they have a bad-ass side too!

The dog is normal, that kid is short. I have a GD, Lumpy, and she looks me square in the eye at 5`7". However, I think the males get a tad bigger, but I don`t think it would be much more than 6` standing.

I wouldn`t trade the world for my Lumpy.

Good job Scooby! She should have let the dog maul that non-nice individual. Stopping a rape is one of the few cases where one can legally use lethal force here in NY.

That`s so cool, I`m glad there are still good people in the world willing to help a stranger.

I`ve always wanted a Great Dane (and a Mastiff), but the money and living quarters were never right for it :(
That`s a big ass dog...
Just about average for a Great Dane. A big one might stand 3 feet high at the shoulder and weigh over 200lbs.

Lovely dogs as a rule, but they need a good owner who can earn and maintain a position as pack leader. Not cheap to feed, either, and you`re going to spend a lot of time walking them. Good watch and guard dogs. A person is going to have a very hard time outrunning a Great Dane and if you`re their pack leader they`ll threaten a target and defer to you, rather than attacking. If you`re face on with a Great Dane snarling at you, it`s crystal clear to you that they won`t have to stretch much to rip out your throat and they`ve got the fangs to do it. If the dog`s owner says something like "If you stay still, he won`t hurt you", you will see the wisdom of staying still.

Cont.
A day earlier, Zamora said, he and Scooby were enjoying a quiet afternoon when he heard a cry of "Help me!"
"I poked my head out the door and he had her pinned down under the pine tree right there." Zamora said, pointing to a nearby front yard.
The 14 year old girl had gottedn off of a Diversey Avenue bus near North Whipple Street, police said. As she walked toward her home, she noticed the man was running toward her, then caught her as she sprinted up the steps, according to police. Throwing her to the ground, the attacker got on top of her and tried pulling her clothes off as she struggled and screamed, police said.
The man started to run after Zamora saw what was happening and yelled. Zamora threw on a pair of shoes, called for Scooby and ran outside.
Thats it, the rest is on page 2 I guess.

I have good eyesight, so I typed it for you guys. Y`all better be appreciative!
When Agustin Zamora Jr. saw a girl being attacked in the yard next to his Logan Square home, he quickly ran outside to help.
But not without first calling for Scooby, his 160-pound giant of a Great Dane.
Zamora and Scooby chased the suspect down whipple Avenue in Logan Square. Joined by two other men, they cornered the man in an alley.
As Scooby growled and barked menacingly, Zamora called police, who arrived to take the man into custody.
"He is a good dog," Zamora said Friday, a day after the dramatic events, as Scooby leaned against him. "Everybody knows him."
Police charged Larry Smith, 23, of the 3700 block of South Wells Street, with attemped criminal sexual assuly. Bond was set at $200,000 at a court bearing on Friday.
Bigger picture please IAB, I am not risking eye damage to read that.
Picture quality is the issue more than size, as your web browser can increase the size very easily.

Synopsis: Girl calls for help, man living nearby calls his dog and calls the police while he and the dog chase the man suspected of attacking the girl. Couple of other men join the chase. They catch up, the dog menaces him and the men grab him. The police arrive and cart the suspect off.

A dog more than 6 feet long can do a very good job of being menacing.
