so, it turns out to be true. i still say that even if you take out the officer`s overreaction, he`s still the most piss poor policeman i`ve seen so far.

I really hope that was fake. Sloop has good points. But I wouldn`t be surprised if it were for real. There are people in the world that should have no business existing, and, yes, some of them are cops.

except you never really see him hit the guy. the camera is always at such an angle that you can`t really see anything, including the mace be being sprayed. sure, you see him swing the club and strike something, but it sounds like concrete rather than drunken party goer. and we`re to assume that the cop, who (doesn`t seem to have a police car) is so sure that beatings and mace are completely necessary to handle the four rowdy drunks, decides to do it all on his own without calling for any sort of backup? so worried for his own safety in this dangerous situation that he readily turns his back and makes his gun accessible to two of the severely beaten man`s chums? really?

also, the driver sounds like a right tool.

*sigh, facepalm* Didn`t see exactly what the dude was saying/doing, but that doesn`t mean the cop should have acted that way. Things like this make me seriously hate cops.

Hmm usually I see the officers as justified in these videos, but I don`t know about this one. I couldn`t see what he was doing to resist and if he uses the asp he has to hi lower then the torso I believe otherwise it is classified as a deadly weapon. He might have went a little overboard, but people are retarded to resist at all.

For god sake. That commentary irritates me. This is hardly `brutal`, it`s unjustified.

If they really want to see something brutal then they should go to liveleak.

He already pulled him out of the vehicle like a ragdoll, so why didn`t he just cuff him and toss him in the back of his copcar, rather than beating the crap out of him and then pepperspraying. Maybe the drunkard was talking poo, maybe he WAS "aggressively grabbing at the cops leg" but the officer clearly had him over powered. And even if you see a cop using excessive force on your drunk friend, if you try to intervene you`re about to get prison time for it, so....wtf.

Why is it that people think you`re helpless just because you`re on the ground?

@zombunny
The guy on the ground was grabbing at the cop`s legs, the cop was hitting his arms with the baton. That`s why he pauses sometimes, he`s waiting for the guy to actually be dumb enough to grab him again.

Er, if he`s aggressively grabbing my legs, he isn`t subdued. Argument fail.

Man tries to mug you, you pepper spray him in the face, he falls to the ground. From the ground he aggressively grabs your legs, you stand there and offer him a cookie?
0
Reply
Female 2,525
That was excessive, no matter what the guy did to deserve it. Once he`s subdued on the ground, it`s time to stop hitting him.

Actually this video does tell the entire story quite well, if the SINGLE ALONE cop was actually as out of line as the point of view tries to get you to believe then his MULTIPLE friends standing BEHIND the cop could very easily do more than stand there with expressions on their face that show that they know he isn`t out of line. The guy is clearly doing something that requires the cop to take action. Should the cop just stand their saying "Sir please stop. Stop. Stop. Please." while the man continues to take action against him? That`s the kind of attitude that allowed these morons to get past grade 1.

Thanks Lololeeta your post. Often we don`t or won`t see the full story (or picture) as it`s conveniently edited out or conveniently not in frame. I was appauled by the video but reading the story you told made it comprehendable. I`m not justifying the cop`s reaction but that he had no choice in the matter if it was over-the-top or inline. Many states have laws against recording cops on duty but you can be a witness and ask questions to the police so long as you don`t interfere with the justice being served.

I sure hope lololeela is right. I did notice how all his friends had the apathetic `you had it coming, bro` look on their faces.

Once, one of my girls got tackled by a cop (for no reason) and my drunk ass was all over him like white on muthaf*ckin rice.... the point is that wrongfully provoked drunk people aren`t usually passive.

Gerry, I wish I could argue this. I really wish I could say that this isn`t how it works in our country.

My friend is a police officer in St. Louis and has the inside scoop on this.

The cop was directing traffic and this guy, who was drunk and belligerent, almost hit him, started cussing him out, and threw a beer bottle at him. What you don`t see in the video is that when the guy was on the ground, he was grabbing the cop`s legs. The cop was only hitting him on the arm to make him let go of his leg. The drunk guy`s friends even said that he had it coming and that they didn`t blame the police officer. You notice how calm all his friends seem to be? The cop called his supervisor to arrest the guy, but the supervisor told the cop to not book him, but let him off with a warning. The cop therefore, didn`t write a summons, which was a mistake because he didn`t document the incident.
You can`t see what the guy on the ground is doing, so whether it`s excessive or not is up in the air
The cop has a pretty leisurely stance over him. He`s not in a "fight" with some drunk swinging/kicking at him. Just casually beating him with a baton.

But fortunately, this cop was stupid enough to do it in front of witnesses.

The video will not be admissable. A perversion of the Wiretapping Laws... didn`t get the cops consent to record him. And the person recording it could be arrested. That`s happened in a couple of states when people had proof of police violence. Don`t correct the problem, outlaw the evidence.

No matter what the guy did. If it was drunk driving, murder or public intoxication... this is a case of excessive force. Police officers should use necessary force to subdue a suspect/criminal. When the guy was on the ground and getting beaten with a club and then pepper sprayed, it looked well beyond reasonable force.

Good thing for the cop they are seldom charged with assault because thats all it was in my opinion.

He will probably be suspended with pay till the investigation is over and then be allowed to serve again after taking anger management programs.

Gerry, that`s a gross generalization. I`ve known plenty of cops who got into the line of duty to help people. There are good cops and bad cops.

You have to put yourself into the position of both the driver and the police officer. If you`re drinking and driving and a cop pulls you over, how do you respond? If it were me, I would comply get out of the car and do what the officer says to do. So, the question is, what kind of person mouths off to a cop? From the cop`s perspective, yes, he`s probably a prick, but he was trying to get the guy to get out of the car. If they don`t comply force is necessary. You can`t see what the guy on the ground is doing, so whether it`s excessive or not is up in the air. If the guy on the ground is still resisting, the pepper spray and the additional smacks to the chops are in order.

You have to be a bully to want to be a Cop.

If you want to help people, you become a Fireman or paramedic or something.

A "Cop" wants to control. Wants authority/power over those around him. Either you were the bully in high school, or you wanted to be the bully but were too weak. The weak kid makes the worst Cop because he has a chip on his shoulder and has to prove to the world he is not weak, even though inside he knows he is.

My dad was the town sheriff in a town smaller than Mayberry. I was brought up to respect cops. But City Cops... don`t trust them. Don`t speak with them. Name, ID, proof of insurance. Say nothing else.

It is not for the police to dispense justice. That is for the courts, the police are merely servants of the people - they may have powers ( that they are awarded) but they must uphold the law. Assault is assualt, no matter who commits it. If we permit the police to overstep their powers by one iota, then we permit the erosion of our liberties.

Drinking and driving should be dealt with much worse than this.

Handcuff his ass and leave him on some train tracks.

Papercut his ass hole and taint and make him swim a mile in lemon juice.

Put ants on his eyes.

Shove a q-tip with tabasco sauce in his penis.

Shove bamboo shoots under his fingernails and make him eat out a prostitute with herpes.

"I`d beat his ass with a billy club too. "

And I work in retail where I get attitude and crap from customers all day long for poo I have no control over. Suppose I should beat on them? It doesn`t matter how mad you get, you have no right. It blows my mind that the authorities who are supposed to protect us get a free ride on beating us and taking advantage of us.

If that guy was driving drunk or was drunk in public then he deserves to serve his sentence as decided by judge and law, not some non-nice individual with a gun.

to protect and to serve. am i correct?
@Django if it is a morron that puts ppl lives in danger pput him in a prison for the rest of hes life. that drunk guy was no threat to the policeman so as to use that kind of force. and the worse thing? because of his actions the drunk guy will not even go in jail. and he will do it again. but its ppl with ur mind that made the world as it is

The guy was on the ground. The last few hits were unnecessary. Pepper spray was also unnecessary. He was NOT fighting back merely being verbal. Sticks and stones. Excessive use of force.

Being a cop would suck. You have to deal with morons day after day. Then you get some prick who`s drinking and driving (putting innocent people`s lives at risk) who tells you to shut up... I`d beat his ass with a billy club too.
