Uh, the street is very dirty, so they wish to not get the rug that they are on dirty, as it`s a sign of disrespect. Floors are cleaned before placing prayer mats, usually.

Kind of a weird spot to do it, but that`s completely fine. I get his logic though, don`t want to get in the way of a busy sidewalk or street, and you should be outside. He chose the most efficient way to do it, I guess.

This is why New York is so great. I`ve seen people of all different religions, including Orthodox Christians, practicing their faith in public, and no one bothers them. It`s awesome, and it`s the reason terrorists hate our country. If you don`t like it, hey, join the terrorists who hate freedom of religion the same way you do.

He didn`t turn his car to face Mecca, but rather his kneeling carpet. He only did it on top of the car because he didn`t want to do it in the street and get run over and he didn`t want to do it on the sidewalk and get in people`s way. Quite considerate of the guy actually.

Just ignore the (often American) airheads
here who can`t distinguish a Muslim from a terrorist. Just because a group of muslims are terrorist, doesn`t mean that everyone else who`s
Muslim aswell will do the same as the said
    terrorist group.

Here, where I live, there`s a group of Christian
skinheads who bombard the local Mosque with bricks.

This group of individuals doesn`t speak for every
    other loving and caring Christian.

And a lot of people will never get this.

So please, by all means. Proceed with stereotyping. You`re just making an ass out of yourself.

Well this is what he is going, except not to Jesus. What he believes in doesn`t bother me. How he is doing it amuses me. How absolutely fake and pretentious you both just seemed angered me.

Batmanners, those in the Islamic faith have to face their Mecca at certain times of day on a prayer rug and do exactly what he just did. My guess is he`s the driver of that taxi, and he can`t just go home in the middle of his workday to pray.

A devout muslim will pray at certain times 5 times a day, they have to face Mecca. The cab is his, so rather than do it in the middle of the road he did it on his car. Big woop. Americans need to realise that capitalist democracy isn`t the great thing they are being duped into believing it is and Muslims aren`t the immoral terrorists they`re made out to be. I think all religious people are a bit retarded, but equally so, they should be allowed to do their retarded things equally, this isn`t as bad as the guys with the Christian signs walking up and down the street shouting in my face and dirupting my day.

I don`t agree. He is young, inexperienced, ignorant and lacking in perspective, yes... but I would not say he is racist or intolerant. You have to know a thing or two of which you speak in order to be intolerant of something. He doesn`t know anything about Muslims and it shows in his writing.

I think all religious people are a bit retarded, but equally so

Equally so huh? You think that a moderate jewish store owner or christian who doesn`t go to church is just as retarded as a muslim extremist who executes mass murder?

I don`t think so. Some are merely misguided, some are nuts and others are totally bonkers and need to be removed. I`m not going to lump many of my moderate friends into the same boat as the Taliban.

There is a point at which excessive praying in the streets becomes disturbing.

I`m a limo driver in California. A little while ago I had some muslims going on a tour of the central valley because they are farmers in their country and wanted to see how they did it on this scale in Cali. Their guide was Catholic and I am a protestant. At noon, they all got out and prayed like this guy did. I thought it was beautiful. And the guide told me they prayed for me, also. I thougth that was a nice gesture. We all got along great, because in this country, you can pray how ever and to whome ever you want. That said, why is this a big deal?

"even now there are militant christians ready to fight in the name of their god at any time."

    Uh, huh. Sure there are.

    Actually, not.

The idea that fundamentalist Christians are comparable to Muslim fundamentalists would be laughable if people didn`t actually get killed. Here`s the truth for all you brainwashed PC lemmings: The most extreme Christians are, at worst, a nuisance. The Muslims ones are downright dangerous. Not in the same league at all.

Yeah, I think this is Canada too. And why would they be pretending it`s normal? It /is/ normal for religious people to pray. 0.o I don`t see the big deal. The only thing that struck me as odd was the fact that he was on the trunk of a cab, but I`m guessing it was his. If I was going to do that, I`d rather do it on the trunk of a cab than the ground.

Also, what KPres fails to realize is that there are downright nutso people in every religion.
For Christianity... Hutaree. Army of God. The KKK.

    @KPres
I`d really like to see you defend this
    http://www.pambazuka.org/en/category/comment/59556%29,
Just to summarize the article is about the Christian led, and yes it`s leaders are indeed very Christian and open about it, "Kill the Gays" bill which will essentially carries out the genocide and exile of the homosexuals of Uganda. Now I may be a little rusty on my Christian values but last time I checked carrying out the genocide of those different from yourself was a big no no. (you know that whole “love thy neighbor” and “do unto others” thing)
There is also a documentary on this that sheds a little light on this

@ El Chinche You`ve clearly never read 1 Samuel 15:2,3 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.`" Or Numbers 31:15-18 "Have you allowed all the women to live?" asked them. "They were the ones who followed Balaam`s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the LORD in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the LORD`s people. Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

    @KPres: Key words..."in the past."

9/11 was in the past, how far does your selective timescale of `relevant/irrelevant` go?
Is 1942 too far with the Catholic Ustasha concentration camps? Ah, but that`s too far away from the US to concern you right?
How about 1954 with Cardinal Spellman, the Vatican`s spokesman in U.S. politics, who called the U.S. forces in Vietnam "Soldiers of Christ", Ah but they were commies right?
1994? Is that recent enough, with Anglican and Catholic priests actively participating in the murder of Tutsi in Rwanda.
But that`s just Africa, what do you expect, am I right?
Try googling Eric Rudolph,David Wayne Hull or ONITSHA, Nigeria, Feb. 22. Hell, just google IRA, that`s all you need.

Yep - today`s Domodedovo bombing was yet ANOTHER example of this fact. It`s not "all the same", PC lemmings, some of these religious psychotics are definitely worse than others.

Here`s the truth for you, any religions fundamentalists are dangerous, just not necessarily in the same way. Sure one religion`s fundamentalists like to blow people up, but the Christian fundamentalists are the ones you want to watch out for. You know why? Because they can get in to positions of power where they have nuclear weapons at their disposal. Now that`s scary.

The people who take religion this seriously need to have their heads examined. Somethings not right. Their beliefs limit their intelligence while the rest of the world is supposed to bend to their mental disorder.

Are you fing crazy? Gay-bashers, kkk, people burning down black churches and mosques, people who have killed others "in the name of the lord", people who have abused and murdered their children to "save" them...I really could go on. All Christians. I understand you can`t help being stupid, but don`t be oblivious to the world around you. That makes you just as dangerous as them.

@madest: the prayer 5 times a day is called Salat, and it`s one of the Five Pillars of Islam, it`s the most core of the principles and beliefs of Muslims. Just because this man chooses to practice his faith in public does not mean he is stupid, crazy or whatever. He is a busy working man who also happens to be a man of faith. And whether you agree or disagree with this person, he is not hurting anyone by praying there.

You don`t understand why someone would do such a thing so you think there is something mentally wrong with him and he is limiting his intelligence. Obviously, this man feels differently, as do all Muslims who practice their religion openly in public. Who are you to tell them to get their heads examined?

@duffy any extremist in a religion is crazy christian jewish muslim hindu budhist baptist athiest and even nihilst the ones who embrace the extremes of these religions are crazy however not all of the people in these religions are crazy im a christian but im not going to beat your door down to tell you about "our" one and only savior just like not all muslims are going to have dynamite strapped to their chest

and praying on top of what is presumably his taxi is understandable simply because the sidewalks of places where you need a taxi are dirtier than a 2 dollar hooker granted its unusual but once examined if one needs to pray like that more than understandable

i like the idea of "praying" five times a day... assuming that when you pray you are trying to somehow become a better human being.Devotion to an ideal is a beautiful thing, just make sure you understand and agree with what it is you are devoted to, and that it is in agreement with being a rational, compassionate, intelligent, and thoughtful human bean:)

Hey there media sheep. I know you`re too busy being sheepish and just read words for the sake of it on the news but had you looked carefully you would have noticed sentences like these which are quite mis-leading

( from bbc )"Militant groups from the North Caucasus are suspected of planning the attack."

    keyword : SUSPECTED.

" Eyewitnesses told Russian TV that before a bomber detonated the charge, he had shouted: "I`ll kill you all!"

I thought the stereotype was " allah hu akbar?"

" Militants from the North Caucasus are frequently blamed for terror attacks in Russia,"

    BLAMED not convicted.. just blamed..
