@crakrjak: a 6 to 10 foot piece of concrete is not going to flex. Same could be said of anything of short enough length. take a 6" diameter steel rod 6" long and try and flex it. Now make it 6`. Now make it 60`. Anything long enough will flex. And that is designed into skyscrapers. They are not one huge piece of concrete. Concrete has been around a long time. That is why building height was limited until they started using steel frames (which do flex).

As for vibration being only up and down, that would be like saying the train only pushes down on the tracks. Living next to a train track, I`m sure you know that there is random side to side motion, just like I`m sure you know that the conical shape of the wheels keeps the train from flying off the track.

Omg i would`nt count on the train not having some sort of thingey hanging down or sticking out, that could be very ugly.

I believe i would have simultaneously shiit and pissed myself, also he should be so lucky that the train wasnt that long.

nettech98: Concrete can and does bend, if it didn`t the wind would`ve destroyed quite a lot of skyscrapers by now. Concrete also compresses, other wise it would be to fragile a material to build with.

The camera doesn`t bounce `randomly` because the weight of the cars above is is transferred through the bogie wheels evenly on each side.

Also the type of gravel used for train right-of-ways is a lot larger and heavier then the gravel used for roads.

Not to mention that the steel tires on the bogie wheels wear out and literally pound on the rails so hard they can be heard for over a mile away and have been known to set off car alarms.

So not cool. Yeah, so he lived. But I feel very sorry for the poor driver who probably thought he`d just killed him. Some people are just idiots.

"flying gravel cloud following trains around."

I would go out of my way to watch trains if this were the case.

@crakrjack: concrete does not bend, it cracks. If the camera were bouncing, it would do so randomly, and the center of the picture would change. It only noticeably does so at the very end.

Regardless, any `bouncing` would not cause a soft dead weight to rise up off the bed of the tracks. Proof of this would be why there`s no flying gravel cloud following trains around.

nettech98: I`ve lived near train tracks for several years, The rails bend from weight of the trains and the ties do flex as well (doesn`t matter if they are concrete or wood).

A train, and it`s cars, are a lot heavier than you think they are, and the camera is visibly bouncing.

would just be really loud and windy, as long as you know that the clearance is high enough, wouldn`t be that much of a risk.

Besides the fact that this is just plane dumb, I do like the "camera work". It makes the viewer feel like they are under the train too and makes your heart feel a little faster.

I`ve got a friend who is a train driver and he says they basically have a heart attack every time someone crosses right in front of the train or does something like this. And he`s hit someone before that wanted to kill himself. It`s really not fun or cool or anything like that. It scares the drivers to death and they`re scarred for life if they have to watch the train they drive basically cut someone to pieces.

Old, and I have seen a video where the man is standing, then puts down the camera and lays down, when at the same time you can see the train coming. If I find it, then I will show you LOL

I`m all for daring, but when you put other people`s lives on the line..it makes you a daredevil AND a jackass. There have been plenty of cases where train conductors try to avoid some shenanigans on the track and end up derailing the train.

What an inconsiderate prick. Regardless of the personal risk the guy took, the conductor had to stop. He threw off the schedules of trains, deliveries, workers, investigators, etc. One stupid stunt impacted possibly hundreds of people in a negative way.

MrTwidget: That was not daring, it was stupid.
Lets see: I have driven a car in excess of 160mph, a motorcycle in excess of 150 mph. Jumped out of an airplane. Climbed out of the window of a truck doing 70mph to get in the bed to get a beer and come back. Ok that was stupid to do.
I am sure he researched that before he did it. Still a dumb stunt if you ask me. (I clearly know dumb stunts by referencing my "beer run")

@crakrjak: the camera barely moves. Are you being faked out by the shadows?

And even still... Place a movie camera on a hardwood floor. Stomp your foot next to it. See the image jump? Now lay your buddy down next to the camera and try again. Does his 200 lbs of dead weight move at all?

You`ll also notice the ties are concrete, not wood.

You could tell this was an unusual spot. the tracks where very high just about the level of his back. I bet if you laid a straight edge from one track to the other across him it would have barely touched him. Still a dumbass thing to risk.

@ LTimeLurker: I seriously doubt they are "gathering up the pieces" themselves. Only a coroner is allowed to remove a dead body from a scene.

Ugh, I know a few individuals that work with the railroad service. They have to stop and check. Not to mention, they are responsible for gathering up the pieces of your stupid @ss if you do go ker-splat.

I gotta call shenanigans.

Trains have chains, and hoses hanging down between the cars. They would have sliced him to bit.

Well. That was stupid. If just one car had a broken piece of metal hanging down. Im sure that was never thought of. Im sure he doesnt do much thinking.

Male 17,512
Notice how much the camera bounces. The weight of the train could`ve easily bounced his body up into the undercarriage of one of the train cars. If it had he`d likely be dead.

Never ever try this.

Of course he`d survive, this is how you avoid getting hit by the train if you can`t get off the tracks in time.

Not as crazy as the people who like to jump across the tracks just as the train goes by.
