It should be clear to any sane person that the man who did this was a disturbed individual who wasn`t coached by anyone but his own delusions. Looking for someone to blame is taking away from what should be the focus--the victims. Many people are dead, including a child who will never grow up.

There were one or two things in there that are yet to be confirmed (9/11 truther for example). Also turning around and making accusations of being "leftist" based on the presence of Marx and Hitler in his book list erodes the quality of an otherwise well written article. I can`t find it anymore, but there was a great article from the Telegraph that was about the same thing as this, minus conservative rantings, but it might be a little dated.

Well of course the media is all over this, they want to be read and win awards. Apparantly, dude isn`t talking to the authorities so reporters are all over his neighbours and any dud that chooses to come forward. It`ll be a media circus and portrayed like Time Magazine`s pic of OJ Simpson being much blacker than he is (that was just rude on so many levels). Just like the 9/11 conspirators, it`ll take about a year or more for the actual truth be told. In the mean time, let the blame-game unfold. I was always at odds of the cross-hairs Palin used targetting Obama that was removed around election time.

Anywho, lots lost their lives and many injured as a result of this eff`d up dude. It was a political message as his motivation..that remains to be obvious.

Looking in from outside, what I see from this link (and other sources) is what I hope is a highly exaggerated domestic political schism in the USA, with politicians on both sides doing the same things: mud-slinging, abusing anything for political gain, using threatening language and generally promoting division and conflict with great fervour...and then criticising the other side for doing those things.

Is the USA really heading down the road to civil war again?

Okay- American politics isn`t my forte, but surely no one can think that this was motivated by actual politics? This man was obviously very disturbed, his grasp of reality must have been shaky - no one, with the possible exception of Mr Phelps would have wished this to happen to their opponent. I actually doubt that Mr Phelps would have wished it in advance, he just chooses to use what comes his way. It is down to one sad, ill man. It is not down to any politician.

The shooter was a registered Democrat.

    i) Are you sure? I`m sure I could find some sites stating that he was a registered Republican. I`ve learnt to trust nothing from domestic USA politics at the moment.

ii) Even if he was registered, he wasn`t a Democrat. For example, Mein Kampf is not a Democratic publication.

    Try this:

    1) Calm down. (Critical, do not continue until this step is completed.)

When we get emotional we become irrational, this is difficult as we are emotional creatures, but it helps significantly when you master it.

    2) Read the item out loud to yourself.

We don`t always get the same information when we read something silently and when we read something audibly.

Andrew Breitbart`s website? You couldn`t pick a less credible source of information on the Internet.

Breitbart is the guy who posted a clip that he claimed showed Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod telling a "racist tale" to an NAACP audience about her supposed past discrimination against a white farmer.

When the NAACP released the full video of Sherrod`s comments, it became clear that the clip Breitbart posted had been ripped from context, and his attempted smear job against Sherrod dissolved.

Media figures including Shepard Smith, Anderson Cooper, Ben Smith, Lawrence O`Donnell, Jonah Goldberg, David Frum and many others have all denounced Breitbart. He simply has NO credibility.

The department of homeland security - Bush`s creation, warns that right-wing extremism is on the rise.

"Where’s that toxic rhetoric coming from? Let’s not make a false pretense of balance: it’s coming, overwhelmingly, from the right. It’s hard to imagine a Democratic member of Congress urging constituents to be “armed and dangerous” without being ostracized; but Representative Michele Bachmann, who did just that, is a rising star in the G.O.P. There`s no evidence to say that he was a registered Democrat. That evidence wouldn`t be hard to find either, so if it were there, it would have been found already.
From what I could piece together from the facts, This guy was a liberal. He went to Giffords` campaign rally in 2007, where he got a chance to speak with her. I`ll assume from his rantings that he tried to discuss sh*t like "currency" and "literacy" with the Representative, who like any rational person didn`t get it. In Loughner`s mind, since she couldn`t understand a word he said, she was "stupid" and he probably had some eugenics mindset in place. He planned to assassinate the Representative. After being kicked out of school for his drug-fueled rantings, he bought the gun and went to the next available public appearance of Giffords to shoot her.

Just my thoughts on trying to put his insanity in rational terms. Stupid thing to attempt, but might as well try.

My list was better, more relevant, included his political policies, and demonstrated he was closer to a conservative, showed examples of previous crazies who had taken up arms at the behest of Republican rhetoric, etc.

Every one of those things in that last paragraph is more relevant than 20 pages of twitter.

Are you GENUINELY telling me "LOOK! 20 TWITTER STATEMENTS!"? Seriously? This is the best you can do?

I submit again, my previous post on the topic. Found somewhere here.

Every political stance I could find him taking, and 2 out of 3 political books were conservative. That makes him conservative. His official stated position was independent.

Now, what exactly is your point?

Your list was poorly researched with no actual facts.
"pro-gun" - If he were pro gun, he would already have one and not have to buy it for an assassination attempt on a pro-gun representative. Nothing in his writings implies "pro-gun"
"Anti-immigrant" - No facts to back this up and he shot a congresswoman in favor of stricter immigration laws.
"Pro-gold standard" - Only one that might be correct, however, his rantings imply that he is referring to some bizarre spiritual concept, not actual money.
"White-supremacist" - Could only be implied by the inclusion of Mein Kampf in his favorite writings, however the collection as a whole implies that he just liked controversial sh*t
"Anti-big government" - Only because "big government" fits under the category of "government as a whole".
"constitution" - Calling police and schools unconstitutional as a synonym for ill

When I hear "facts", I think unbiased presentation. Both sides have their spin on things, and this article is no exception, being just as biased as everything else flooding the media. Way to claim the high road and fail to take it on the author`s part. It`s just unfortunate that so often what`s said or done by a few dumb individuals in politics becomes more of a focus than the real issues, political or otherwise.

My data is from interviews with people who knew the guy (not just the twitter girl), his own writings, and evidence found at his house by the police that has been released to the media. Hi Volsunga.

You`re making assumptions about my sources, but that`s fine, I didn`t properly display them.

Pro-gun is I think a fairly valid assumption. He does own another gun as featured in various pictures.

He was Anti-immigrant/white supremacist: FOX news of all places, but they have since backtracked on that DHS memo.

Pro-Gold standard: From his ramblings. He talks about grammar as currency but also talks about actual currency and about how it has nothing backing it.

He stated the government wasn`t following the constitution.

I think we agree on the other points?

    Also, just some quick points:

He was not as far as I can tell, a registered Democrat. I`ve only found info suggesting he was an independent.

He was not (necessarily) Atheist. He complained that when he didn`t write down "religion" on some form someone else filled out "none" for him.

So be careful on your source for that.

The link to American Renaissance looks to be coincidence at best. The magazine recently called for violence against Giffords because she is Jewish. However, he had plans to kill her since he talked to her in 2007 according to documents found at his house, of those released to the media thus far, none mention her race.

Owning a gun does not necessarily mean "pro-gun" when somebody is as dissociated from reality as he is.

I still have trouble agreeing with the gold standard bit because I have experience talking with people who use weird metaphors for spiritual beliefs. I`m no psychologist by any means, but his language when talking about "currency not backed by silver and gold" seems metaphorical to me.

My point on the constitution got cut off, but he basically said that police and education are not government responsibilities according to his "constitution". That would make him closer to an anarchist than anything

He wasn`t "pro-gun" until he started planning the murder in 2007. A friend of his said he had, at one point, asked him to take him out for target practice (obviously preparing), and when they did so, it appeared as if Laughner had never held a gun in his life.

Hey KPres, I think that the Right has definitely been fanning the flames of hatred, just like the Left was back during Bush`s second term. No matter what, both political parties need to calm down. Stop hating other people, and just dislike their viewpoints. Both parties have been slinging hate back and forth for a good while now, and the American public, as you and I are proving, hate all this hate. Once the parties calm down, so (hopefully) will the American people.

Jesus christ, people, a psychopath is a psychopath, no matter which end of the political spectrum he comes from, what his religion is, etc., and the crazy mother-f*ckers barely have a connection with REALITY, let alone any specific politics.

There is no one to blame for this except the shooter himself, not even (irritatingly enough, though I would love another reason to see her buried in bad press) Sarah Palin.

This is a tragedy. Pure and simple. And instead of pulling people together, it`s tearing us apart, which is a very, VERY depressing thought.

Sandra Bernhard - A comedian and that was clearly an exaggeration. Furthermore she said "would" not "should".
Craig Kilborn - Another comedian and was playing on Bush`s falling approval ratings.
Betty Williams - You left out this part: I don`t know how I ever got a Nobel Peace Prize, because when I see children die the anger in me is just beyond belief. It`s our duty as human beings, whatever age we are, to become the protectors of human life. She was regretting her acceptance of the Nobel Peace prize.
Alec Baldwin - That`s out of context. Again he said that we "would" do it not that we "should".
British film - Akin to "A Modest Proposal" which the intent was to deliberately upset people. Plus if you actually watch they actually give a reason why he SHOULD NOT be assassinated.

    From her website:

Dana appears regularly on Fox News, CNN, CBS, and ABC and was the first and only female guest host for the popular Michael Savage, who called her his “mental match.”

Also Crakr if you`re going to lump terrorists and extremists with the left then it`s only fitting that left lumps similar men with your side.

Do you find it odd? Or do you believe that the left that places the blame for this shooting at the feet of the right really and truly wants there to be a more civil tone in politics?

So, point a finger, place the blame, and then talk about how the other side inflames the conversation? Hmmmm.... for political advantage there is no shame.

Next will come talk about gun control, don`t you think?

It was light on facts, but what`s funny is the blogger complaining about the exact same things her tribe has down to the Left. Pot-kettle-black.

All you pacifist pusses, how do you NOT consider politics in a political assassination?

You are a liar if you think the murder of a Federal Judge and the open attempted murder of a Democratic Congresswoman AT A TOWN HALL!!!! can be a neutral national tradgedy that brings us oh so close together. A liar or a puss.

id like to point out whatever your political leanings, the guy killed a bunch of innocent people, who were there to hear a speech. hardly something worthy of being killed over, including a 9 year old girl. a child. what the hell political view justifies randomly killing a 9 year old? priorities are f*cked.

goaliejerry: Would`ve, should`ve, could`ve... makes little difference to a nutcase wanting to go on a rampage.

Makes little difference to those illicitly pointing their own crooked fingers at people like Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, etc.. either.

The message is, Clean up your damn house before you start complaining about others. Especially while people haven`t even been buried, some still healing in the hospital, and others in heartache right now. It`s sickening.

She is short of blaming Obama for the killings!
Oh and the issue of bullseyes, how can she compare targeting states for an election to targeting physical persons with their name, for what they voted.Isn`t she bias?
Just for that you know she going to twist the facts.
Maybe there is a point of debate for the reaction, but let`s not gorget the debate for the actions that led to this tragedy.
Man this country is sick, talking about main stream medias, let`s talk about Fox News Beatch!
Oh CrakJared! of course it makes a difference you fool! But you are to blindfolded to even see it.

This seems just as biased as anything else I`ve read about this poo. There are just as many facts here as everywhere else, this site just happens to target liberals instead of conservatives. Stop posting political poo or at least don`t lie right in the title.

Here`s what I`ve gathered from the internet since this happened:
Left side - Hey guys, maybe we should tone things down a bit. Don`t you think gun imagery seems to come back to bite us in the ass almost 100% of the time?
Right side - LIBERALS ARE BAD THE SHOOTER WAS A LIBERAL LIBS LIBS LIBS *frantically scrubbing violent phrases from websites*

Conservatives these days are quick with the "I`m not necessarily saying Obama is a commie, but `Obama` and `Lenin` do have the same number of letters" nonsense, but when anyone points out the possible connection between gun violence on a Democrat and the "Be afraid! Your freedom is being stolen!" and "Stop Giffords; shoot an M16" and Palin`s bulls-eye rhetoric, they`re suddenly "hey, hey, now; lets be rational and not leap to conclusions! Some one could get hurt!" True conservatives and Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for aligning with and implicitly condoning the fringe of their party. If Boehner and McConnell are truly patriots and leaders, they will send a clear message to their party that bozos like Palin, Limbaugh, Fox "News", and their ilk should be marginalized and ignored by serious Republicans.

I see some hipocracy on the left here when a terrorist kills a bunch of people they`re quick to say that`s just a small percentage of muslims don`t judge them all but when they get ahold of a far right loony they`re quick to judge the rest of a party. It`s not the psychopaths fault his gun and the crosshairs on posters made him do it I guess.

@goaliejerry This was not a "town hall" meeting, it was a "presser" big difference, k?
What difference does the source make if the facts are, you know, facts? Ooo, to the libtards, source=fact! Therefor the NYT is always right! er, left... and the right is always wrong, eh?

(from page 1) thanks @Crackr, @AJ and all others who actually read and appreciated this. There are LOTS of fact-filled round-ups out there, this one had more pictures (for the slower IABers).

@MoeFreak: No, actually the `right` is saying, as we always do, lets wait for some facts before assigning blame. The MSM left HAS TO jump the gun (pardon my pun!) to slander their enemies before the facts prove them wrong.

@Baalth: I did read your previous post, it was so FULL of POO that I got p-o`d and submitted this. @Volsunga makes an excellent run-down of your BS `factoids` and flagrent, biased opinions.

Glenn Beck said he wanted and pondered how to kill Michael Moore
Bill O`Reilly said that Dana Milbank would be decapitated. Then added "That was a joke".
