The singer was flat but at least he knew all the words lol. The guitar player was having real problems with the Bminor chord, and most of the other chords too, solo was laughable but hes probly really new. The bass player was playing 1 note ata time and no where near in sync with the drummer. the drummer was slowing down to try to match the singer. I dont know WHAT the 2nd guitar player was doing.. couldn`t even hear him.

This gave me a good laugh tho. at least they finished the song! lol

This is great. The way they mouth out the lyrics while playing as if this was some grand rock concert. Why were there two guitarists? And the bassist was barely doing anything. And they were all off-tempo. And the bassist got the HELL out of there as soon as it was done.

    Good stuff.

"My guess is that they are a bunch of adults students from a music school."

Music students would have been taught symphonic harmony. Basically, where all instruments play at the same rhythm/tempo, and the right instruments have the right volume. Most bands play by the beat of the drums, as the drummer maintains a steady beat for the section being played, whereas a bass may only play one note for every 2 measures.

This would be the first thing a student would be taught before being sent out to play.

Then getting the audio correct is vital. Guitar should be louder than the bass. This guy`s bass`s ring/echo(?) was louder than the guitar.

Oh, and most importantly, learning how to play the god damned song!

Any post with Pink Floyd in the name immediately gets my attention.
The only instrument I could see someone having real trouble with on this song is the guitar (That being said I don`t play guitar). But I play bass and drums, and the bass and drum parts are both pretty easy. That was just horrible, but hilarious. The guitar solo was just...Oh my god.

    ElDavo, you`re a faggot`s crusty $#!+stained towel.

TalcumX, don`t get me wrong, I`ve been listening to Pink Floyd for over 40 years, and I think they`re one of the greatest bands of all time, but the fact is, Gilbert could play everything Gilmour ever did note-for-note. You can`t say the same thing about Gilmour.

Gilbert wasn`t trying to imitate Gilmour; he was just using Comfortably Numb as a backtrack for his own style of solo. If you can`t appreciate that, then more the pity for you. There`s no denying Gilbert is a virtuoso.

Gilbert is not a virtuoso. He has the same technical ability that thousands of guitarists do. He couldn`t write a piece of music for poo, so he covers that up by playing more notes. It only works because idiots like you believe that makes him a "virtuoso". In conclusion, OldOllie is a dumbass.

    @batmanners,

that isn`t very good advice, almost every musical situation I`ve encountered needs to be tuned individually. Though you are right about theory, there is nothing necessarily wrong with a louder bass because it uses different frequencies than a guitar. In this scenario of the deadweight on stage, I agree that the bass amp needs to short out. Coming from a primarily-bassist/trumpet musician this may sound like ego, but with a mature player the bass should usually be at or above the guitar in terms of power and volume.

That said, this bassist was terrible. The guitarist shouldn`t have tried the solo because he did a sloppy job. The vocalist was so unenthused and I felt that he was on ritalin. Whoever was running the drums was the only competent player but they were too busy trying to keep everyone together that they lost a couple beats here and there on numerous occasions. Absolute garbage.

Yeah, I agree, bass can be as loud or louder than the guitar, but the difference in volume these guys had was ridiculous.

And I am a drummer (kinda...self-taught) and this guy, at least, knew how to change up drum beats for different sections, but there was absolutely nothing impressive about it =/

And I mostly wrote what I did to emphasize the last thing on the list "Learn to play the god damned song"

Ollie: What the hell kind of argument is that? "Well he`s better than YOU, so he MUST be better than David Gilmour!" You sure proved your point there!

If you don`t believe there are thousands of guitarists with that kind of technical skill, you are clearly not well-associated with Youtube.

Way to start your second paragraph with a conjunction. Dick.

I didn`t say he was better than Gilmour. I said he was TECHNICALLY more proficient.

I`ve watched 100s of shredder vids on YouTube and there are only a few guitarists that are even in Gilbert`s class: Batio, Malmsteen, Buckethead, Vai, Satriani, Miyata, and maybe a few others. Most of the "shredder" vids on YouTube are just wankers who have mastered a couple of licks.

Finally, it`s not incorrect to begin a sentence or a paragraph with a conjunction. On the other hand, your last paragraph consisted of two sentence fragments, twat.

Ollie: You said nothing of the sort. All you said was, "I`d like to see YOU try it," or something To that extent. I can`t prove this because someone (presumably you after noticing the error) has since deleted the post.

What exactly do you think Gilbert has done? He`s good at a few licks and he uses them impressively well, but it remains true that he cannot write a MEANINGFUL guitar piece on his own. That`s why he parodies classics like Pink Floyd songs.

I understand that neither of the sentences in my final paragraph are complete sentences. I did typed them that way to emphasize my point. You hilariously confirmed my diagnosis that you are a retarded drat when you insisted that beginning a paragraph with a conjunction is correct grammar.

That`s about as believable as some spaz getting up after an epic faceplant and saying, "I did crashed that way on purpose!" Yeah, sure. If anyone believes that, I have a great deal on a bridge for you.

Gilbert doesn`t just know a few licks; he knows HUNDREDS of them. And regarding his writing, he has written or contributed to nearly everything he has recorded with Racer X, Mr. Big, and his solo albums. Look up the writing credits on AMG if you don`t believe it. All those notes don`t just string themselves together.

Look, all I did is post a music vid, and for some inexplicable reason, you started flinging your turds at me. Well, you can go f*** yourself with a pineapple, you dickless little @$$wipe.

The crowd clapped because it was over.

This is my old band covering Pink Floyd

My singing was a bit off, but the strong part of the band was always Dustin`s guitar anyway.

You`re absolutely right, Ollie. I would question your grammar and then not even pay attention to my own because THAT`S the kind of person I am.

Perhaps the reason Racer X, Mr. Big, and Paul Gilbert himself don`t make very good original music is because Gilbert wrote the music.

Look, you posted a video that made you look like a faggot. I called you a faggot after you did it. I`m not sure what the problem is.

That`s because you`re retarded -- that and the fact that you weren`t even born, or if you were, you were still $#!+ting your diapers when this music was made.

I hardly see how that`s relevant. I have been born since then, and with two fully functional ears.

I`m retarded? I`m not the one who called Paul Gilbert a `virtuoso`. Talk to me when you quit sucking dick at music and life.

I have been playing guitar for 45 years, part of that time professionally. I have been a member of AFM and even done a little recording. I think I know a little more about guitar than you do. I also can appreciate the inborn talent plus years of hard work and dedication it takes to be able to play as well as Gilbert. You obviously don`t. You probably cream your undies over some wanker garage band guitarist that couldn`t play 4 different eighth notes in a row.

Go ahead and jack off to Neil Young shredding those solos on "Cinnamon Girl" or "Cowgirl in the Sand." I bet they`re about your speed.

This being the internet, none of what you said was in any provable. Congrats on using fake credentials to prove that you`re correct simply because your opinion is more valid than mine.

However, let`s assume that what you said was all true. I can become a member of the AFM if I so choose (I even went to their website and started to sign up before I decided not to give them my SSN). Doesn`t the fact that you`ve played professionally and even done some recording but you never actually gotten even remotely famous qualify you as a "wanker garage band guitarist"? How would this possibly validate your opinion?

It shows what you know when you refer to eighth notes as the standard of technical prowess without providing a tempo or meter. A 3-year-old could do what you described.

I`ll admit, the only song by Pink Floyd I currently have in my guitar repertoire is Welcome to the Machine - because it`s a fun piece for being so easy -, but doesn`t Comfortably Numb have three main cords with a couple others, played mostly with a chord per a sung line? Other than the solo the core of this should be an easy beginners piece.
