Why else would they name Facebook"s Zuckerberg Person of 2010 when their readers thought much, much different?

There are 5 better candidates for Man of the Year in the top 11 that are better than Zuckerberg.

I think it`s funny how the Chilean Miners are above Barrack. Hell, I`m surprised Barrack doesn`t have twice that votes at least.

I think perhaps Assange was ruled out because upvoting him was part of /b/`s Operation Avenge Assange, as well as things like DDoSing PayPal.

Clearly you guys aren`t familiar with the American way of voting. The way Time did it is pretty much standard protocol here.

`when the chilean miners are above you, you are screwed`

I would have thought it would be when `unemployed americans` are above you you`re screwed

I have to say that I just love how The Unemployed American is above Zuckerberg. It does make sense but I just think it sounds funny.

If I screwed up the privacy settings of a few million people on a semi-annual basis, releasing private data for all to see, then I guess I`d be influential, too.

Heh, I noticed they added that line since the last TIME poll of this type.
@CrakrJak- look at the rating though. It means more people voted down Beck than voted up Stewart and Colbert.
You DO know that this proves the left is filled with hate, and the right is much MORE tolerant, eh? You can`t ask for more obvious proof...

How was Sarah Palin influential? All she did was introduce us to how to use the machinery that kills turkeys.

The criteria for selecting the Person of the Year is defined as the person, who "for better or for worse, ...has done the most to influence the events of the year."

It`s not a popular vote. Time picks the `winner`. Somebody did a poll to see what people thought and they posted the results.

One has no bearing on the other.

I wish it was Asange. I don`t like him, but its a fiasco to be remembered. I don`t even know what Zuckerberg looks like, and honestly I don`t care.

They didn`t even choose 10th place based on average rating, they chose 10th based on number of votes. Assange has the HIGHEST average rating out of anyone on there right now, as well as the MOST votes. He`s obviously #1 to a vast amount of people. I`m gonna find all the TIME magazines that have Zuckerberg on them and put a picture of Assange on them instead.

They chose #10? TENTH place wins according to the left, eh? And Time never ever has had `credibility`, it`s just another leftist mouthpiece... Stalin won... twice!

Assange is `Damaged Goods` in the press` opinion right now.

Interesting how Glenn Beck got more votes than Stewart and Colbert put together.

I agree... Assange should have won it. He actually deserves to be called person of the year. Just about everyone except for patriotic morons approves or supports what wikileaks has done.

So what do we do now? Well... for starters, this was clearly a ploy by Time to both avoid political ramifications and gain publicity at the same time... at the expense of its credibility of course. All we have to do is cross Time Magazine off the list of credible, unbiased media.

Next time Time Magazine says something, you can dismiss it as if it was from Fox News or something...

@DudeAbides: Wouldn`t that highlight a problem in the relationship between the press and the government?

I could understand not picking him as person of the year while he is being held on rape charges on the grounds of `political correctness`

But this is absurd...

Its just a stupid internet vote that really has no control over who ends up on the cover. Assange is up there because 4chan thinks its funny.

"its just the fact that the US goverment probably wouldn`t allow them to make Julian Assange person of the year."

Yeah, you know... the Time magazine editors we vote into that public office position... Freedom of the press certainly isn`t in our constitution`s FIRST AMENDMENT! It is scary you can vote.

Although I respect Mark Zuckerberg`s achievements and innovation and the ways that he has changed the world, he is hardly a big name of 2010. If anything he should be times man of the year for anytime in the last 4 or 5 years. Julian Assange is HUGE news now and whether you agree or disagree, he is definitely influential and how things are handled with him will certainly change the future of information exchange and government transparency.
