Pneumatic Prank At SeQuant

This is what scientists get up to in their spare time. No wonder we haven"t cured cancer yet! It is hilarious though.

@Quackor
there`s a difference between the stresses on your bones caused by a baseball bat and the transfer of kinetic energy

@Quaker:
By your logic, being launched with, say, a slingshot, would break all the bones in your body. Air =/= Baseball Bat.

I believe this is fake, yeah, but the poo you guys say some times...

i cant believe there is arguing whether its fake or not, its obvious its fake.
someone please grab a bat and hit someone as hard as you can in the chest, you will get a few broken ribs and maybe a punctured lung, now, how far will that throw him? see? get the picture?

It`s real. It`s not necessarily the cannon full of paper that hurt him, it was the wind that pushed him so far back.

almightybob needs to get a life. Its meant to be funny, not forensically torn apart by basement dwelling nerds. They are scientists, they are smarter than you, and I`m sure they have the ability to make a fake movie look real. Get over it.

And who says cancer cant be cured? Its cured all the time...

Incidentally, there is a longer "making of" version here. After watching the original, my first reaction was that it was just an excellent fake, simply because it was so dangerous. But after watching the long one, I`m not so sure.

I think maybe they actually did it, but it didn`t work as well as that. Maybe it knocked him over or something. So they changed the final version, but still did the actual prank.
because every scientist ever is working toward curing cancer, right?

Obviously not. But I only get 120 characters to write the description. So I couldn`t list everything we don`t have yet. Curing cancer was the first thing that popped into my head, and it worked for the purpose of this joke so I went for it. Would you be complaining if I`d written "no wonder we don`t have time travel yet"? Or would you like future jokes to be accompanied by disclaimers pointing out they may not be based entirely on fact?
Look mods when you allow this you need to give better warning. I just practically spit my soda over the screen.
Sorry handys, I did write that it was hilarious in the description though :P but perhaps a "do not drink and watch" tag would be good, like the 18+ one.

Of course it`s fake, watch the pranker on the left as the cannon goes off, he flicks briefly to the left.

But really well done.
what the hell did they do to the guy?!
Air cannon. A tube with compressed air at one end and a valve between the compressed air container and the tube. Open the valve and the compressed air rapidly expands through it. The tube is airtight and ensures that the air must expand through it.

In essence, a very brief and very focussed gust of wind.

The "ammunition" was just polystyrene jammed into the barrel for effect.

They can be seriously dangerous weapons. You can use them as actual cannons firing actual cannon balls, if you have enough air pressure. This was enough to be unsafe - a sudden blow capable of knocking a man off his feet and backwards into a wall of lockers is enough force to do harm.

Gee I think I`ll put on safety glasses before opening this door in case there is an air cannon waiting on the other side.

It`s not a prank if everyone is in on it.

@duffy
So every time they leave an environment where they need a lab coat they should head directly to their lockers at the entrance, deposit their lab coat, and then get on with their task?

Do you also expect police officers to carry around their uniforms in the trunk of their car and just put it on when necessary? Should mail men just carry their uniforms with them, put them on right before delivering a package, and remove their uniform before heading to their next destination?

The problem is the lab coats. Maybe 1 out of 10 places where they wear lab coats they actually need them. The other 9 places just wear them out of conceit and this is what happens. Instead of curing cancer, they are a bunch of self-important dicks. Take away the lab coats and you take away their self-inflated opinions and they start getting work done again.

yea, it`s not funny if it endangers an innocent man`s life. If he agreed to do this for fun, then yea, it`d be funny, but he looked seriously injured at the end.

Um, not funny if it throws the guy 10 feet into a locker, eh? Broken bones and concussions are only funny if the guy volunteered to get them (like by jumping off a tall fence on his skateboard) NOT when someone `plays a trick` on you.
BOO science!
(also - most likely fake. It looks `animated` when he gets blasted backwards. A blast strong enough to do that would indeed possibly kill him, I doubt anyone is stupid enough to try this as a prank, especially at work!)
