Any animal can be social, it just depends on how it is treated in the early part of it`s life.

I love dogs, but because of where I live I can only have cats so to compensate I treat them like little dogs and it`s worked out great.

just a good trainer and an obedient dog that is all

Lots of time and patience on the part of the trainer, both of which I do not possess. This is why my dog knows enough to follow simple behavioral commands. No tricks. As long as he doesn`t poop on the carpet, I`m good.

Cats are incredible social. If one goes with out interaction for a while, it can turn feral. But cats in a loving home or even (big cats) in their packs depend on others for much more than just food.

@5cats
definitely more social than the average domestic cat

@GHudson, cats are quite social! You are mistaken, eh? And cats choose to love you, dogs are just slaves to their pack instincts.

@madest, I thought birds (those smart parrots at least) could do that. Also cats can as well, even my completely untrained ones!

@I-IS-BORED are you suggesting a polar bear is more social than a cat? LMAO! That picture scares me, polar bears are big, aggressive and NOT afraid of humans...

Bullpoo, cats are social animals. But you have to work for their loyalty and trust.

Well cats can be trained by the "click method", I`ve seen it on youtube. The thing about dogs that I just learned the other day is they understand when a human points at something. No other animal does. You`d think a monkey might get it but no. Monkey does not. Just dogs.

Also, social animals > cats

"just because something is trained repeatedly to perform a series of actions, does not mean that it is intelligent."

Yes it does. It takes a level of intelligence to learn and act on memory rather than just instinct, no-one is saying that dogs have a human level of intelligence but they are still highly intelligent animals.

"You would never see a cat letting itself be trained like this"

This is because cats are not social animals, the only reason they hang around with their owners is because it`s convenient. Humans are social animals and so are dogs, which is why dogs are easily trained (just like humans, if you think about it!) it`s also why we get along so well.

One of my ex-gf`s had a Jack Russell and they LOVE to do sh*t like this... A little to needy and high maintenance for my blood, but then again so was the ex.

why hasn`t anyone cried "Fake" yet?

Seriously. The "Cry-Fake" guys on here can`t believe a human could smash a toy guitar into a tv, but you`re very happy to believe this dog does laundry

I almost puked in my mouth because of the song, couldn`t even focus on the dog. This may be because I`m hungover as drat but who knows, really?

its not smart, its been trained. the only reason it does all those silly little tricks is because it thinks it will get some food afterwards.

This is why dogs will always be better than cats.

Show me a cat that can catch a frisbee on the run, and I will change my mind.

@rainbowfarts and shiftyplus1

When they are in packs they can overwhelm the prey. Just as the wild dogs of Africa. There are a few other breeds as well. The JR`s are not alone, but it`s become epidemic in Parker Ranch territory as former owners just dump them out there on the range.

How does a Jack Russell take down a sheep? Not saying it`s impossible, but they are so tiny....

Male 2,402
Plenty of Ranchers hate Jack Russels in this area. There a few wild ones that kill the local sheep and goats. They are shot on sight by the ranchers.

@slab of rage

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but the ability to remember and perform various tasks upon various commands IS a measure of intelligence. People with higher levels of intelligence have deeper capacity for remembering the tasks that correlate to each command and have a quicker performance reaction.

That KFC guy is unintelligent because he was unable to perform a task that he is trained to do and failed when prompted. (Or he was probably just some stoner kid making a bit of money for pot after school)

My parents little pomeranian could only do the crawl and twirl in circles on his back two legs (along with the standard come, sit, down) and he`ll pick up stuff and bring it to you if you point to something across the room. The pitbull, well along with the standards he does the scariest roll over that will destroy your kneecaps if you`re standing too close, he turns into this crazy break-dancing tornado beast.
