I`ve always wondered if there could be a practical application of these things. They can`t carry any weight because the leg movements depend on minimum resistance. Cool and unique application of mechanical forces though.

They are actually considered living creatures by the creator. Their goal is to survive as long as possible. And for the people that think it`s pointless, thanks to these sculptures BMW makes as awesome cars as they do. (Janses is on of their lead designers)

They`re awesome, and I seriously don`t get the idea of them being creepy.

I did see something on tv about this guy. I`m quite sure he has made much more complex ones which can walk both ways and can move away if they touch water.

it only goes down a slope in case no one knew. I think it`s fed by wind pushing it over to one side, in turn makes it unstable on one side than the other, which will rotate its axle and make the legs move.

I actually said "OH GOD" out loud when I first saw it move. I would sh*t my bikini bottoms if I saw this thing creepin` along, all alone on the beach.

What steers it, do you think? Or stops it from going into the water?

so the wind hits the sail trys to knock it over which makes the front legs push back which transmits the force to another set of legs which move forward as the others go back ? or at least thats what i`m seeing

GregH7, can you summarize his book, and how he is insane? This is the first I have heard of his book, and from what I recall, he imagines a world inhabited by these things. I think it`s the coolest thing how he devised these structures which can walk based on wind, but if he does imagine a world of these things, then he`s a bit weird.

They should make do-it-yourself kits to build these.
If they were $200 or less, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

I have a vision of after the `Big One`, when the Earth is a radioactive husk, nothing living is left, just hundreds of these things walking around the flat lifeless deserts...

...and an Alien, chasing after one and yelling "Stop F`ing ignoring me and take me to your Leader!"

Imagine these walking round the abandoned coasts, hundreds of years after all life was wiped out by a virus or something...

Spooky.
