Saying something is bad because you know irresponsible people only enables those people to blame something other than themselves for their crappy parenting skills. WoW doesn`t make people become bad parents. If WoW didn`t exist, they`d still be crappy parents.

what most of you people talking bad about wow dont realize is that this game operates and rewards the SAME EXACT BRAIN RECEPTION CENTERS that activate when using drugs, having sex (fapping counts), basically anything one would consider a "rewarding experience" (triggering the release of dopamine among other chemicals).

What we have here, is a disease, much like alcoholism and heroin addiction, you can just as easily become addicted to WoW. Blizzard knows this based on their systematic rewards scheme (ie do a 20 hour raid and get some goodies), and also knows that if they do not continually update the content players will become bored (much like building a tolerance) and seek more rewarding experiences. Which is why people who play WoW also play numerous other mmo`s. Mcfudge YOU JUST DONT UNDERSTAND. it`s like when people make fun of your mother; they find it hilarious because they have no emotional or physical connection to her, and you do. That is all.

Nerd_Rage, it might affect the same areas of the brain as drugs but it is NOT as addictive or, in most cases, as harmful.

Yes, some people take it too far. But for everyone person like that, there are a dozen or a hundred who play casually and have never had any adverse side effects. I play and have stopped for a week because I`m busy with finals and wrapping everything up for the semester. I participate in many other activities and it does not consume me. How many heroin users can say the same?

I took heroin when I got bored with nothing else to do or when I could get my friends to take it with me. I started out of curiosity and was quite into it for a while but like all drugs it got boring. After a while i just couldn`t justify my dealers monthly fees.

oh wait no....heroin and WoW aren`t alike at all.

I don`t play for months at a time... I really don`t think its that addictive.

I did play 12 hours a day at one point when I was unemployed and really depressed, but that`s because I had nothing else to do, my girlfirend was still in the USA, all my old friends had moved out of the country after uni, etc.

I played because I didn`t have anything to do.
I stopped when I did have other stuff to do.

The direction of causation has always been straightforward to me.

    Nerd Rage:
Some things you say are excessively bullpooty.
Blizzard knows that if they do not continually update the content players will become bored (much like building a tolerance)
So.. not like drugs at all, and exactly the opposite of addiction.
Blizz knows, people play until bored, then stop.
New content (not stronger) makes them come back.

Which is why people who play WoW also play numerous other mmo`s. Nobody has time for multiple MMOs. The entire industry knows that other MMOs fail for the sole reason that WoW exists. They sometimes trial, sometimes swap, but really play multiple? No.

Also, Blizzard`s changes have all been in the opposite direction to your suggestion and are making everything shorter.

The time it took getting High Warlord stuff got cut in 5. Raids and instances got cut anywhere from 1/2 to 1/5th.

Wow.... a whole week. Go you breaking that Habit! :D. If a smoker gave up for a week would you be impressed?

It really is a pretty rubbish and out-dated game now. Same old stuff over and over and they keep making you pay for it. I haven`t played since Feb 2010 after 4 years of playing. Going to sell my account and make £200 whilst people are still buying crapaclysm.

There`s a difference between "I forced myself to stop playing for a week" (which an addict would say), and "I haven`t played for a week" which an addict rarely would.

I`ve not played for a week. Why? Better stuff to do this week. It`s not convenient. I need to wake up early this past week. Etc.

I played the openings of the new races when I had some free time.

Prior to Cataclysm coming out I hadn`t played for 3 months. Not because I was trying to quit, just because I had no urges to play in that time.

Smokers, heroin addicts, etc, stop by forceful repression of urges. Not casual lack thereof.

I find Coca-Cola more addictive. WAY more addictive.

Semantic arguments aside, you have to agree that WoW and it`s users pay for (monthly) for a fictional existence when they really could be spending their time doing something productive, ffs pick up a guitar people.

KPres: There are lots of other online role playing games that women play. I don`t consider WoW a roleplaying game. As my fiancé (who, ironically I met roleplaying online) puts it, it`s a mathematic level treadmill. Picking up an oldie but goodie like Neverwinter Nights proves there are still a TON of girls roleplaying.

WoW is like the junk food of the RP world.
