Not bad. I can see using something similar for living space control.

@Gerry

Idk if the Clapper quite counts... Mine actually understands full commands like "Lights up", "Lights down", "Play disc", "Channel _____", etc.

Just have to key in a small button on a tiny remote to have the system listen for commands. Kinda looks like a car starter with one little button. System beeps and I give the command. (Works like Sync in a car.)

Taylor_Stone - I had that. Voice command, I mean... Well, sort of. I had a Clapper. You know...Clap on / Clap off. I hooked it up to the christmas tree so I could easily turn it on.

Unfortunately, every time the dog barked the tree lights went off...or on... WOOF off WOOF on WOOF off WOOF etc ad naseum

"I`ll be impressed when he can say "Computer, TV, now" and get a cool vocal response, and of course the TV turns on also"

All he needs for that is voice recognition software like Dragon or ActiveSpeak and a tv with USB or wireless support. And all he`d have to do is set the voice rec software to give him audio feedback of his commands.

And sorry to tell you nerd haters out there, but stuff like this GETS women... It shows you have intelligence and ingenuity... Guys who are able to do things like this on a whim usually have the capability to find good paying jobs.

In closing, all the electronics in my media room are on voice support and once i get a good touchpad device, I could probably have something similar to this running. (I`m not a fan of the LCARS interface so it would be more than likely Linux driven.)

That is cool. Not hugely useful, but very cool.

Voice control is trivial compared to this. You can buy voice control off the shelf.

Those hands have never done a real day`s work in the life. They look like a lady`s hands, which is probably as close as he`ll ever get to having one.

"Captain, I sense great pathos."

...for lack of a better way of putting it. But I think that will suffice to make my point.

LCARS - Library Computer Access/Retreival System

It makes your computer {Mac or PC} behave like an iPad. All the info, easy to get to and easily organized.

YES I`m a trek fan. love it. always have and not ashamed to admit my passionate desire for Capt. Kirk... both of them.
