Well, if he thinks that more of his money belongs to the government, that`s fine. I would spend it on something else like another private yacht, but that`s just me.

What really cheeses me off though is when he says his fellow billionaire isn`t entitled to the money he earned. It`s one thing to say what you think should happen with your own property, it`s something completely different when you say what should happen to your neighbor`s property. Warren Buffet is basically saying that the government should punish billionaires for being successful.

Warren Buffett can pay whatever he wants in taxes. There`s no law that says you can`t pay more than you owe.

What he shouldn`t do is demand that other people pay more. That`s crap. Fair is when everybody pays the same percentage.

I think you completely misunderstand him. He doesn`t talk about _himself_, he talks about the problem. He analysed the situation and came up with a solution - disregarding if that might harm or benefit him.

So why doesn`t he just donate everything he has to charity? Why doesn`t he just donate it all to the federal government? Do you think he skips a single tax deduction when he files his taxes?

hmmm... I wonder if he has full time tax attorneys and tax accountant (advisors) working for him? So that he pays less?

Or does he just skip all of that and pay more than he should?

What do you think he does?

Some very rich men/women that stepped on people or earned their money by less than moral means try and atone for their rise by giving away what would be taken from them in estate taxes. Maybe to buy a good feeling instead of guilt?

I don`t know about him, nor do I wish to cast aspersions on his motive.

But, I think Warren probably looks out for Warren.

I say we need to introduce "No Representation without Taxation." Close to 50% of the population pays no federal income tax, yet they want more government handouts. If you don`t pay, you shouldn`t get to vote yourself a bigger piece of the pie. 17% flat tax. No exceptions, no deductions. Eliminate all other forms of federal taxes. Eliminate 95% of the IRS workers in one move.

I know there are a lot of stupid people here, but I`m always amazed just HOW stupid some of them can be.

It takes money (capital) and an entrepreneur willing to put that money at risk to create a job. When the government takes that money away from the entrepreneur in the form of higher taxes, the job doesn`t get created.

Why is such a simple concept as this so difficult for liberals to grasp? This is not rocket surgery.

"It takes money (capital) and an entrepreneur willing to put that money at risk to create a job. "

Olie - They don`t, though. "Trickle down economics" has been DISPROVEN due to the fact that Bush`s massive tax cuts for the wealthy had NO EFFECT on stopping the economy from collapsing. The exceptionally wealthy invest their money into expensive real estate, which appreciates in value without ever being taxed. (Republicans say "oooohhhh death taxes!" Democrats say "Rich people make millions of dollars due to appreciated property values then pass that money to their children tax free - something regular people CANNOT DO. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.") Then, they take high paying jobs as executives of corporations to play with investor`s money - NOT THEIR MONEY, SHAREHOLDER MONEY.

Blows my mind how epistemically closed the right wing mind is. A decade of evidence that tax cuts for the very wealthy DO NOT grow the economy, and in fact were in place when the economy collapsed, and the same fricken people come back and say...MORE MONEY FOR RICH PEOPLE OR WE WILL ALL DIE.

We gave rich people their tax cuts. The jobs disappeared under Bush anyways. That is a FACT Olie. Your solution? More tax cuts!

Der Der Der Der! Evidence doesn`t matter, just what I believe! Tax cuts grow the economy, never mind the economic collapse that occured while the very tax cuts I support were in place.

Most people will point at the Reagan years and say "look lowering taxes for the wealthy stimulates the economy because it trickles down" but that is not the case anymore with this globalization. Reduced taxes on the wealthy means they take that extra capital where they can get the best returns on investment, which turns out to be places like India and China. So lowered taxes has moved jobs from USA to foreign nations where they can buy cheap labor.

Is there a lib that doesn`t want to take more money from us in the form or taxes, fees, or licenses?

How much tax is enough? Ask yourself this, "Who`s money is it?". "The Governments, or the individuals`?"

Also, for those of you that like class warfare. You know, where you get the rich to pay more even though 1/2 of the Americans pay NO income tax at all.

They just raise your taxes, but don`t call them taxes. Check the fees you pay? Or license fees? or what you pay to use a National Park? Or the amount of Federal Tax on a gallon of gasoline? So even us non-rich get taxed heavily. Plus, don`t forget if you put a tax on business, this becomes a cost of doing business and all business takes their costs and add a percentage for profit. So when you tax that business, guess who pays the higher tax? ... anyone that buys that TV, car, watch, diapers, furniture, etc.

Wake up. Have government cut instead of raising fees and taxes.

goaliejerrym thanks for answering my question. Apparently, the reason liberals cannot grasp the simplest concepts of economics is that you believe a whole bunch of crap that isn`t true. The Bush tax cuts got us out of a deep recession caused by the dot.com crash and made worse by 9/11. Bush cut the top marginal tax rate from 39.6% to 35% in 2003. Four years later, unemployment was 4.5% and GDP growth was 3%. Then the Democrats took over congress in 2007, and we all know what has happened since then.

The current recession was cause by the subprime mortgage meltdown and subsequent bursting of the housing bubble. Now, we can argue all day long over who was at fault there, but NOBODY believes it was caused by low tax rates.

differenteye, you can suck it. I took economics in college 40 years ago, and my professor was a Keynesian f**tard. I turned his class into a complete shambles, but he couldn`t do anything about it, because I won every debate with him. He had to rewrite his tests to include the points where I proved him wrong.

And what I posted below are FACTS. You can look them up yourself, provided you can figure out that Google thing.

It always amazes me how ordinary people so strongly defend the rich. They must think that they are sure to win the lottery then they will have to pay extra taxes on their new money. The gap between the richest Americans and the rest of us is growing bigger all the time.

I got a MASSIVE tax refund thanks to a tax credit that Obama passed in order to put more money in the hands of almost all working Americans. Wow, you really don`t know anything about Buffet, do you? He`s one of the most prolific philanthropists in the world, so I`m sure if he read your comment he`d have himself a good laugh. What good would it do for him alone to make an extra donation to the Government? He may be incredibly wealthy, but it`s not his job to single-handedly fund the Federal Government. What he`s advocating is for a tax increase on everyone who makes insane amounts of money.

Speelz is right. A very short Google query comes up with Buffet and Gates not only donating several billions (half their yearly net worth, in fact) to charity, but also to holding a charity dinner last year in which they challenged a room full of other billionaires to do as they have done.

Normally I spend like 15 minutes in Google before commenting on political stuff, but this took, like, 2 minutes.

But since we`re all giving our opinions, I don`t think whether or not the rich getting richer or paying more out of pocket addresses the issue of job creation when so many of the jobs keep getting created in the third world. A lot of the money never trickles back down so much as it trickles to Asia.

But even that is too oversimplified to be totally accurate.

sbeelz, you didn`t get a tax cut; you got a check. They`re not the same.

Imagine that your landlord gave you $100 and told you he just cut your rent. "Great!" you say. "I can use the extra $100 a month to buy a new home entertainment system!"

"Oh, wait," he says. "I`m not cutting your rent next month. In fact, I might ever raise it. I`ll want till the last week or so to decide. But meanwhile your next month`s rent`s the same as last month."

"So, you really didn`t cut my rent. You just gave me $100, right?"

"Oh, no! That`s a rent CUT."

"Okay, so if you cut my rent, does that mean you`re raising it next month."

"Oh, no! It`s going to be the same as last month." (vv cont. vv)

Obama as not considered raising any taxes? Have you heard of cap & trade? Have you heard of new oil taxes? Have you heard of higher taxes on small business making over $250K? Have you heard on taxes on dirivatives? Have you heard of new corporate taxes? Who do you suppose ends up paying for all this in the long run?
