"This is weird. Who ever writes to their son`s/daughter`s significant other?"

It says `AND` meaning Son AND significant other.

Yeah, we never see cards for sons and their girlfriends for instance

Did you miss the word "his" on the card?

Here`s a thought: just buy a pen and a stack of regular christmas cards and then sign them out to whoever you please. That way, you also come across as someone who gives a big enough damn about their son (and his significant other) to scribble a few words themselves, instead of just buying the sentiment.

"AWESOME! Glad somebody is a brilliant son with a boyfriend"

oh, I thought it was a card a girlfriend would give to her boyfriend and illegitimate child. I guess the gay outlook makes better sense.
#2.) Why is the son "brilliant"? Has he no other
positive traits that make him the oh-so-
common "wonderful"? Is his boyfriend dense?
`brilliant` doesn`t necessarily mean `very intelligent` in English. Maybe it does in American English, but in English it`s a more general term for very good in any way.

Why is it "-a- brilliant son" and not "-our-

To make it available to a wider range of people. Sometimes there isn`t an `Our` plenty of people only have one parent and unless the card is from you and some other random person, it wouldn`t be `Our`.

As for Brilliant? I guess it appears more appropriate than my "finer then hell" song :D

#1.) Why is it "-a- brilliant son" and not "-our-
brilliant son"? If he happens to be someone
else`s son why not just call him "our
brilliant nephew/neighbor/friend/thingy"?

#2.) Why is the son "brilliant"? Has he no other
positive traits that make him the oh-so-
common "wonderful"? Is his boyfriend dense?

It is very cute.. it just happens to be the sort of thing that would have me sitting on the couch puzzled for about 5 minutes before I got bored..

I think this is from Marks and Spencer, beceause they had loads of cards like these. For daughters and boyfriends/husbands etc.

No way in hell I would ever buy a card like that.

I`ll assume this is because one of the following reasons!

a) Your son happens to have been born straight- thus no boyfriend
b) Your son is an idiot- so `brilliant` would be offensive
c) You have no son, because you are a virgin

and I`m relatively sure not every gay couple goes from single to PARTNER FOR LIFE...they do still go through that boyfriend stage y`know :)

oh... a gay thing! I get it now.

on first reading it, I thought it was from a girl to her son who is also HER boyfriend? You know, Oedipus-thingie....

I`m clear now.

I always get confused about whether to call a gay person`s significant other "boyfriend" or "partner" or whatever.

It`d be embarrassing to get this card and then have your son go "Mom, he`s my PARTNER." D:

-----------

I don`t think it matters really. I always say boyfriend/girlfriend and nobody seems to be offended or anything.

hmm, I`ve always introduced and referred to my opposite gender spouse as a partner Alfish...guess it`s all up to personal preference.

But I`m sure that the recipient of this card would get the message regardless.

Cool- if you are the sort of person who sends this type of card. Rather than the tasteful Medici print.

Nice to see actually! When you`re a gay couple or know a gay couple, "to the both of you" cards or "happy anniversary" cards either say "husband/wife" or "boyfriend/girlfriend" or say neither but have a picture of a boy and girl, making it hard to buy cards for!

Also I bet me and my partner get this card off my parents this year :P
