Actually I`m surprised that no one has come to the obvious conclusion that she is an Alien and is communicating with the mother ship.

come on wtf this video is not available in your country. drat you youtube this is just bullpoo FUUUUuuuu, any way I don`t think that they would bring a cellphone that you need to hold at least hands free??? and time travel to the past is theoretically physically impossible. the radio signal is going..where?? to the future HAHAHA stupid news getting stupider

random coincidence is thousands of times more probably than time travel. and humans will never travel back in time for two reasons. 1. it`s impossible (as of now, only going forward is theoretically correct). 2. it would completely alter the future with what is known as `The Butterfly effect`. note that this is an effect, not a theory, meaning it WILL occur with backwards time travel.

The problem is that after this came to light the time travelers went back in time and altered it by introducing the hearing aid thing. Now we have a good explanation for what she was doing. Time travelers will always trick us......

Yeah...if you see the model of the hearing aid they are talking about, it`s shaped kind of like a cell phone...and you hold it just like that.

I think the funniest arguments against this are:
"THERE WEREN`T ANY TOWERS TO SUPPORT THE SIGNAL"
and
"SHE WOULD HAVE THE ONLY CELL PHONE"

Really? If you have technology capable of ripping apart the time space continuum and sending you back in time on a whim.. You don`t think they would have a work around for cellphone towers? Or the ability to communicate from the time they came?

Now, I`m not saying I believe this is a time traveler, Occam`s razor and everything.. but, at least give a good argument against it.

I still say there`s nothing there to indicate she was talking.

The simplest explanation is that she was shading her eyes from the sun, and the "phone" is nothing more than the shadow of her hand on her face. The position of her fingers is consistent with rheumatoid arthritis.

1. who would she be talking to if she was the only one back then with a cell phone
2. how would the cell phone be working without the sattelites and towers up everywhere to carry the signal
3. i`m pretty sure by the we are advanced enough to time travel, cell phones are gonna be alot smaller and i dont think we will have to hold them up to our face like that to use them

Just to play devils advocate with those of you that have pointed out the old (and now tired) talking point about no cell phone towers back then...it is true we need towers....for now, anyways. Who`s to say the mystery lady is from our era? Maybe she`s from 3124 when, as we all know, cell towers will be unnecessary.

Ok here`s my take.

It`s 1920, no sound in ol Charlies movies, so really you can talk all you want on set.

They want a woman for whatever reason in the shot but dont have one, so they ask ol Bob if he could dress up as one, but Bob doesnt look like a woman so they tell him to cover his face, Bob not being much of an actor, walks in the scene and ask`s "charlie is this good" because he can talk and it wont make any difference.

Bob, Al . Willy insert your name...

Excuse me dumb ass but the man entered the frame first as directed in the scene. He did not pass her as your proposing. even though he is slightly to her left he is the angle would not make that much different in height blowtard. Now get out your software program and measure both the angles and the distance.

Lol, what amazes me is that people are complaining that someone with advanced enough technology to travel in time needs a cell tower for their cell phone. The cell phones Doctor Who uses can call anywhere in space time without a tower.

Guess I need to fire up the Wayback Machine and set it for 1928.

Firstly, that is a time traveler from 3124 on vacation.

Secondly, all of you are complete morons.

Secondly again, she really does have a tooth ache.

Thirdly but should be fourthly, in the future, we can expect to find towerless cellphones that double as toothache pain desensitizers.

How this is not common sense to you clowns is beyond me.

Time Travel might be possible. However if such tech exists. The likely-hood of the need to personally expose such to cause contamination to the time line would not be necessary. We could just merely hide and observe. Come on to time travel in a Chaplin Movie? The mere presence of a future time traveler in a film would have consequences of changing history in the future already including yours and mine possibility of not being born to write this.

I scrutinized this video on another sight many times looking at all angles. I did not see the original film, but would like to see as this is a digital remake. However it appearers to be a type of software program that altered the woman. When you go to youtube to view. You will notice the man that comes into the frame first is taller than the woman. They both take the same path but if you notice the shadow on the wall behind. The woman`s shadow is taller than the man`s. Then as they pass behind the horse with the tree in the background. The shadows pass the base of the tree under the horse with the man`s shadow now being taller than the woman`s shadow both still following the same path. This is seems to be evident that the video has been altered.

I`m pretty sure time travel isn`t logically possible until you have a time machine yourself. Read Asimov.

Now lets think about it,
Tache - tick
Bowler - tick
Cane - tick
Time Machine - no I don`t think that was one of Charlie`s trademarks

Ok, so, she was stranded back in time as a young, lovely woman who had taken a time travel trip and was forgotten or lost...

As the years wore on, though, she realized she had no one she could really connect with. Her beliefs were so different from everyone around her! Slowly she started to loose her mind and spoke into one of the few items she brought from the future, her cell phone.

There! Problem solved.

Let me say first of all I don`t believe time travel is possible. That said, If I somehow did come across a working time machine I would absolutely do crap like that just to see if anyone would notice several decades later. Sure there are better uses for it but this would be funny as hell to do.

I love the people who aren`t sure if it is a real time traveler.

Critical thinking is important here. Ask yourself some questions:
1) Wouldn`t time travelers have access to radical life extension technologies and thus not appear as an old woman?
2) Why would an elderly woman be chosen as a time traveler, especially one that has no idea to hide her "cell/time phone" in 1928?
3) Wouldn`t time travelers have access to miniaturization far more advanced than ours and would have a "cell/time phone far smaller than today`s?
4) Wouldn`t a people advanced enough to travel time have access to Virtual Reality that was realistic and accurate enough to negate the need for time travel?
5) couldn`t there be more reasonable explanations, such as hearing aid, holding her collar, hiding her face, mental illness?

But if you aren`t going to apply logic, then I say that she is holding an 8th generation Wii controller.

I don`t think it`s a time traveller - just a woman with something in her hand, possibly holding her hand in front of her face so as not to get filmed walking past.

HOWEVER. Everyone saying "ooh no cell towers or satellites" should consider that if she has access to time travel technology, a communicator device that can be used without satellites or towers should bot be a problem.

That and walkie talkies, people!

I still stand by my arguemen, and freddy Im not mental myself for thinking people talk to themselves, especially ELDERLY LADIES who are put on the spot...

I still think she`s pulling the pose in the above pictures, just her hand is further up.
Also a quick google search will show that many people talk to themselves when they think they`re alone, its not behaviour exclusive to the mentally ill. All I think is to even entertain the notion that this is a time traveller above someone with odd behaviour is ridiculous

If it was actually a time traveler, we can be assured that soon we will not have any recollection of this happening seeing as she will simply go back in time and divert her past self from walking across the camera, and poof, it disappears from the internet and our collective consciousness` as a whole. So basically, if it stays and gets to be a meme, it isnt real, if it disappears, it is real, but we wont know it.

Maxfischer..

Time travel, stupid yes. But your explanation kinda sucks. What collar are you seeing her hold up? I don`t see one.. And if she was so embarrassed about the cameras on her why would she go in front of them, and at the end why did she stop, then turn and face the cameras...?

Reply
Male 11,739
@MaxFischer - maybe your friends talk to themselves like that. But sane people don`t talk to themselves out loud. I`m not sure I buy the time traveler thing, but I don`t think it was anything that has been explained yet.

A hearing aid would have been larger. She was not holding her collar (really...what are you seeing?), and it was not what we would consider a mobile phone. There would have been no way to use it. If it was a communications device (which is possible if the person really IS a time traveler), it would be using technology beyond what we know now.

I don`t think we`ll ever figure out the truth, but no one in their right mind would think she`s talking to herself because she thinks she might be on camera.

Its a shy woman, who upon walking past notices the camera is pointing in her direction, thats why she`s holding the COLLAR of her COAT, in a bid to hider her face. As for the talking, its a normal reaction when embarrased eg ``Oh god, I hope Im not being filmed...`` Also explains the bashful smile at the camera. End of story a shy woman who isnt used to/doesnt want to be filmed.

Time traveller? Honestly?
