It took awhile to read all the postcards but I did it. Those people are amazing.

madest: Again, You can only think of the here and now, Not the future or the past.

Today is a day to be thankful, Not bitter.

madest: We don`t have to be invaded` by another country to loose our freedoms, Our borders are like swiss cheese, We are still at threat from foreign missiles, And we recently discovered several mail bombs made overseas.

Your claim of `...they`re not fighting for my freedom.` is not only myopic, But false as well.

madest: Everyone serving, Since the Vietnam era ,Is voluntary. In fact the military chiefs do not want a draft and have to deal with draftees.

Did not know you where `chaptered out`, Was a just a good guess. An OTHD is a hard thing to live down, Understandably you are bitter about it.

But please recognize that there are many that have served, And still serving, That do protect not only our cherished freedoms, But of those in other countries as well.

madest: Why do I have the feeling you got a dishonorable discharge or something close to it ?
I`m guessing, Just guessing mind you, Your perceived `right to smoke pot` was violated and now you hold it against the military for discharging you for it.

Madest... Why don`t you speak for yourself when your referring to veterans? Did you just retire or did you serve only 4 years when you were young then ETS?

I can`t stand it when someone starts flame wars then tries to speak for all of us...
Altaru: If you noticed my first comment, I asked people to `Thank a Veteran` this Veteran`s Day.

Then madest decided to stick his nose in it and chide me.
I know. I was just sayin`, don`t take the troll bait, man. I wasn`t pointing at either of you specifically, I was just trying to make it clear that this is definitely not the post to be starting a flame war.

No matter what, respect the soldiers, even if you don`t like the government they serve.

madest: I didn`t serve, But I have many relatives and friends that have, None of them have the disrespect and acerbic vitriol that you possess.

PostSecret is one of my favorite sites. I read it every Sunday evening and try to convince myself that one day I`ll send my own secret in.

I`m not a supporter of the war but I am supporter of the people that are doing their job for their country, even if it`s not my country.

I can`t watch this stuff. And I certainly can`t read the comments. I would wager money half of you are slamming the military in some way which makes me want to pull your spine out slowly.

Madest, seriously, I see what you`re doing and I see where you`re going, but just shut up.

That goes for you to, Crakr.

Can we just let this be a Veteran respect thread? If not for the veterans of today, than yesterday?

November 11th is Veterans Day. Please remember all who served in this and other conflicts as well as those who served in peace. This date was chosen because on the 11th hour of the 11th month in the year 1918 World War 1 ended. But not before 8.5 to 10 million people were killed.

TKD_Master: They`ve tried many times TKD, Thankfully we`ve stopped most of their plots before they could act, The Fort Hood Terrorist being one glaring exception and the recent pot shots taken at military bases here in the US being another.

If you haven`t figured it out yet, Radical Islam wants to take over the world and institute sharia law everywhere. Muslims living here are trying to force sharia law into our court system, Which is why Oklahoma voters sought to ban it. So yes, Our freedoms here are at stake.

madest: So selfish that you had to make my comment about you and the current conflict in Afghanistan ? (Iraq is over, Remember Obama said he won it.)

There are millions of other veterans out there, Not just you. And most all of them are thankful to live in the USA and enjoy the freedoms that earlier veterans preserved for them and their ancestors. Apparently you, Madest, Aren`t thankful at all.

I just want to point out that the current war is NOT defending our freedom. The only people in the entire world that can damage U.S. freedom are high up U.S. govt. people. Nobody else would dare try.

"War turns me on more than any woman I have ever met."

Blast me if you wish but this is certainly one of the most incomprehensibly desolate statements EVER.

It`s funny how many people think veterans day is just about the war(s) going on now.... anyone remember the World Wars that where actually about everyone`s freedom?

No matter where, when (or why) you served, (if you did), you did more than most these days would.

My husband hasn`t deployed yet and I`m dreading that day, so I`m just gonna not watch this video and keep from thinking more about it. Some of these comments are interesting, though. I like reading the different opinions.

The following will happen on this thread:

An anti-war teenage wannabe-activist will post something about how all soldiers are murderers and how the iraq war is shameful.

An ex-marine or soldier will reply to that post blasting them, claiming that they owe their freedom to soldiers and that they should be shot.

Flame-war kicks off, fancy gets lots of ad revenue.

Your an idiot.

Bigmordecai
Your right, great benefits, lousy pay lol.

Phoneybone
I`ve actually seen a couple Major Majors around haha.

And to the thought that only military wives screw around... A lot of you would be very surprised.

@Cmdr Bittles- I think its a bit more difficult for the soldiers to screw than the wives. In fact you don`t really hear lack of faith on their part due to disciplinary actions and rules with locals and the countless other barriers.
@Feuyaer- you have no idea what you are talking about. Soldiers, while receiving many benefits are not paid much, and certainly not overpaid to kill. Look at the cost of a mercenary, or understand assassins cost much more. Plus, most people don`t due it for an economic incentive, as considering lost years and opportunities, if you have your act together in the states you are much better off. Now take your idiocy and leave this place.

Yawn.
Soldiers: 10% good, respectable people doing it for the right reasons. 90% dullard young people joining as the easy way out to get overpaid to kill.

This was a waste of time. I was hoping to hear some REAL secrets, Not utter BS messages. I wonder just how many of these soldiers wives f**ked around on them while they were serving. And maybe some secrets about these soldiers coming home and thinking of killing themselves every day. There have been more Suicides from returned soldiers than soldiers to actually die over seas.
